𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗸𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲
Die Bank of Namibia (BoN) se Junie-kwartaalbulletin wys 59 498 beeste is in die eerste kwartaal in Namibië bemark, sowat 34,4% meer as verlede jaar en 23,4% meer as die vorige kwartaal.

Produsentepryse het in die eerste kwartaal op gemiddeld N$72.97 per kg gestaan, 12% hoër as dieselfde tyd verlede jaar en 3,6% hoër kwartaal-op-kwartaal. Speenkalfpryse het met 10,9% teenoor verlede jaar tot by N$32.52 per kg gestyg.

BoN skryf die styging toe aan 'n sterker vraag onder plaaslike boere, abattoirs, streekmarkte en internasionale kopers.

Die Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) se BBP-bulletin wat op 25 Junie vrygestel is, wys verder die landbou- en bosbou-sektor het in die eerste kwartaal van 2026 met 12,1% in reële toegevoegde waarde gegroei nadat dit in die ooreenstemmende kwartaal van 2025 met 17,7% gekrimp het. Van alle sektore het landbou die hoogste groeikoers getoon.

𝗕𝗼𝘁𝘀𝘄𝗮𝗻𝗮’𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗾𝘂𝗼𝘁𝗮 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗮
Following Meatco’s successful utilisation of its Norwegian quota by the end of June, about five months earlier than in 2025, Meatco secured an additional 344,766 kg through a government-to-government arrangement with Botswana under the SACU-EFTA quota-sharing framework.

The initial quota is expected to generate approximately N$265 million in premium export earnings, according to a Meatco media statement today. “The additional allocation is expected to generate a further approximately N$100 million, bringing the combined projected value of Meatco's Norwegian exports during the 2026 calendar year to about N$365 million.”

Under Namibia's Cabinet-approved quota framework, the annual Norwegian beef quota is shared between Meatco (75%) and Beefcor (25%). Meatco’s additional portion of Botswana’s unused quota is 344,766 kg of a total of 459,688 kg.

Meatco intends to utilise the additional allocation before 31 December 2026, ensuring that every available kilogram is converted into maximum value for Namibian livestock producers, increased export earnings and broader economic growth, the media statement concluded.

𝗞𝗼𝗲𝗱𝗼𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗱𝗼𝗹𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗷𝗮𝗴
Die voortdurende uitbreking van hondsdolheid onder Namibiese koedoes het ‘n groot impak op die beskikbaarheid van trofeebulle en bevolkingsgetalle. Kenners meen egter nie die siekte wat koedoes al bykans vir 50 jaar lank raak, sal die koedoebevolking uitwis nie.

Hernude uitbreking van hondsdolheid onder koedoes is pas in die Dordabis- en Wilhelmstal-omgewings aangemeld, met nog gevalle wat daarna in die noorde en suide van die land gevolg het. Dit dui op redelike wye verspreiding.

“Die sikliese aard van hondsdolheid beteken uitbrekings kom omtrent elke vier jaar voor terwyl ’n koedoebul agt tot tien jaar neem om werklik groot te raak en trofeestatus te bereik. Ons het tans ‘n ernstige tekort aan groot bulle,” sê dr Ulf Tubbesing van Wildlife Vets Namibia wat onder meer spesialiseer in die inenting van wild teen hondsdolheid. Hy voeg by ‘n uitbreking wis dikwels 60% tot 70% van die koedoebevolking in ‘n gegewe gebied uit.

Dr Rainer Hassel, afgetrede hoof van die Veterinary Academic Hospital by Unam wat nog as konsultant betrokke is en al vir baie jare navorser oor hondsdolheid onder koedoes, sê gevalle kom knaend voor. In die eerste week van Junie het hy van gevalle in die suide gehoor het. “Die siekte kom en gaan. Ná ’n uitbreking is dit gewoonlik ‘n ruk lank stil, koedoegetalle neem dan toe tot die volgende uitbreking.”

𝗣𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗮’𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗶-𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
The Namibian government has reaffirmed its commitment to building a resilient, inclusive and food-sovereign nation with key technical and financial support from partners such as the African Union Development Agency, Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations and the German agency for international cooperation (GIZ).

In her keynote address at this morning’s (27 July 2026) development partners network, the minister of agriculture Inge Zaamwani, said Namibia is officially moving into the next critical phase of the strategy for the transformation of the agri-food sector (STAS). “We are turning strategy into real-world action. However, the government cannot do it alone. From commercial and communal farmers to agribusinesses, academia and development partners, everyone is a co-creator of this transformation.”

She reiterated that realising the full potential of the country’s agri-food sector requires more young people and women to lead innovation, production and agribusinesses. At the same time, the minister highlighted the importance of climate-smart water management, renewable energy to lower production costs, sustainable fisheries and equitable land governance.

“In the face of climate challenges like the potential El Niño, speed and coordination will be key in ensuring food security. The ministry is working diligently to finalise a draft framework to convene the STAS assembly before October 2026 to drive sector-owned implementation,” she explained.

“Together, through strategic investments and strong partnerships, we are building an agri-food sector that creates jobs, strengthens local value addition and secures a prosperous future in line with NDP6 and Vision 2030.”

U deelname is waardevol, of olifante u plaas besoek of nie, en of u ondervinding met dié diere positief, negatief of gemeng is.
Die resultate sal ons help om meer ingeligte aanbevelings te maak oor olifantbestuur.
