Voorts is biosekuriteit van kardinale belang by enige voerkraal.

Die road shows is as volg geskeduleer:
10 September Karasburg Communal Area (Bondelswartz), Gabis Roman Catholic Church Hall
11 September Aroab Farmers Association Hall
12 September Keetmanshoop Dutch Reformed (NG) Church Hall
16 September Aminuis Auction Kraals
17 September Akanous Mariental: Onder Nossob Farmers Association Hall
18 September Mariental NLA Auction Kraals

𝗦𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗜𝗣𝗘
𝘾𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙞𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙥𝙞𝙚
𝑰𝒏𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔
200 g butter (at room temperature)
225 g light brown muscovado sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
325 g plain flour (plus extra for dusting)
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
150 g milk chocolate chips
splash of milk (optional)
350 g chocolate hazelnut spread
100 g white chocolate chips
100 g multipack (8) Kinder mini chocolate bars

Method: Beat the butter and sugar together using electric beaters or in a stand mixer until light and fluffy. Crack in 1 egg and separate the other, then add just the yolk (freeze the egg white for another recipe). Pour in the vanilla and beat until smooth and creamy. Add the flour, bicarbonate of soda, a pinch of salt and the milk chocolate chips, then mix with a spatula to form a stiff dough (if the mixture feels dry, add a splash of milk). Split the dough into two balls – one roughly two-thirds of the mixture and the other, a third. Pat into 2 cm-thick discs, wrap and chill for at least 1 hour. Lightly dust a clean work surface with flour and roll the larger disc out into a 23 cm round. Use it to line a 20 cm springform cake tin, using your fingers to press the dough 3 cm up the sides of the tin. Stir the chocolate spread with a spoon to soften it a little, then stir in the white chocolate chips. Spread most of the mixture over the cookie dough base. Press the chocolate bars deeply into the chocolate spread, then use a small spatula to spread the remaining mixture over the bars, levelling off the surface - there should be around 1 cm of cookie dough rising above the filling. Chill for 20 minutes to firm up the filling. Roll the remaining dough out into a 19 cm disc and lay on top of the filling, inside the cookie dough rim. Use your fingers to smooth over the edges and enclose the filling. Chill for at least 1 hour. Heat the oven to 180°C. Put the cake tin on a baking tray. Bake for 50 minutes to an hour, covering loosely with foil once the top is golden brown. Allow the pie to cool to room temperature in the tin before carefully removing the ring and base, then chill for at least an hour before slicing. (www.bbcgoodfood.com)

Broccoli contains more protein (per calorie) than steak, although you would need to eat a large quantity of broccoli to get the same amount of protein as a typical serving of steak. For example, a 90 g serving of steak has 20 g of protein and 300 calories, while a similar amount of broccoli might have 2,5 g of protein and 35 calories.

Rhinos are a biological treasure and have had a special place in Namibia’s ecosystem for many years. These majestic animals are a strong symbol of the country’s conservation efforts, successes and failures. Such is the opinion of Annette Oelofse, widely regarded as the rhino whisperer, a guest speaker at the recent Wildlife Ranching Namibia (WRN) information day in Windhoek.

Namibia’s Black Rhino Custodianship Programme has earned global praise for reversing the decline of a critically endangered species. Launched three decades ago, the initiative entrusts private landowners and communal conservancies with rhino stewardship, turning farms and conservancies into secure refuges. “Although all black rhinos remain state property, they roam and thrive on partnered lands, generating ecotourism revenue while enhancing biodiversity.”

Annette is optimistic about the establishment of a black rhino association and what it could contribute to conservation efforts. She encouraged more farmers to become custodians of black rhinos. “Rising security costs have dampened applications in recent years. Once the association is formed, the aim will be to provide custodians with incentives for rhino monitoring and population growth. The biggest benefit that will be explored is the waiver of land tax for every rhino custodian.”

Currently, rhino custodians enjoy a significant land-use advantage – the department of wildlife and nature conservation prohibits mining operations on farms hosting black rhinos. This protection not only preserves the rhino’s habitat but shields local groundwater and grazing lands from disruptive exploration.

The development of El Niño is considered practically impossible over the next four months, according to the latest forecast of the World Meteorological Organisation released yesterday.

Expert assessments indicate there is about a 55% chance that La Niña conditions will develop in the central to eastern equatorial Pacific between September and November 2025. Meanwhile, the likelihood of ENSO-neutral conditions persisting during this period is estimated at around 45%.

Looking further ahead, the probability of La Niña conditions forming increases to approximately 60% for October to December 2025.
