Taradi Donates Sanitary Pads to Epako High School Girls
A local women’s group, Taradi, has donated sanitary pads to girls at Epako High School in Gobabis. A total of 288 sanitary pads were handed over to support learners in need.
Speaking to Kaisames NBC News, the Chairperson of the group, Mrs Isidora Bok, said the donation was motivated by the challenges many families are facing.
She explained that some parents are currently unemployed and can not afford to buy sanitary pads for their daughters. As a result, the group decided to step in to support the girls and help protect their dignity.
Mrs Bok said the initiative was fully funded by the women themselves. They came together, contributed money from their own pockets, and bought the sanitary pads without any external assistance.
“As women and mothers, we did not want to focus only on our own children, but to look beyond and help those in need,” she said.
She also encouraged other women in the community to join them every Sunday for gatherings held under a tree, where they share information and discuss important issues affecting women and the girl child. These discussions also focus on supporting widows and promoting the importance of culture.
Another member of the group, Mrs Katrina /Goagoses, said the organisation has bigger plans for the future. She noted that they aim to also support the boy child, assist the elderly, and eventually establish a soup kitchen.
She further encouraged young girls to value themselves and protect their dignity.
“You must protect your self-worth. You are the first person responsible for how you present yourself before expecting others to respect you,” she said.
The event was attended by the Councilor of the Gobabis Constituency, Honorable Liberius Kalili, who came to support the initiative.
