🚨FULL-TIME: Arguably one of the biggest upsets in recent Africa Cup of Nations history saw South Africa fall 1-0 to ten-man Egypt in their Group B clash at a packed Stade Adrar in Agadir, Morocco.

Bafana Bafana failed to unlock the Egyptian defence, ending a 19-year unbeaten run against the Pharaohs. South Africa last lost to Egypt in 2006 during the Nelson Mandela Challenge friendly and had since recorded five wins and two draws in subsequent encounters.

Egypt’s decisive goal came from a controversial penalty, where Mohamed Salah calmly sent Ronwen Williams the wrong way, slotting the ball straight down the middle in the 45th minute.

The strike marked Salah’s 63rd international goal in 109 appearances and lifted Egypt to the top of the Group B standings and ultimately the round of 16 in the tournament.

The Pharaohs were reduced to ten men late in the first half when Mohamed Hany was sent off in stoppage time (45+2) for a reckless challenge on Teboho Mokoena.

Egypt will next face Angola on Monday at 18:00, while South Africa take on Zimbabwe at the same time.

Up next on the matchday is Group A action, with Zambia facing Comoros at 19:30, before hosts Morocco take on Mali at 22:00.
