HAPPY DEMOCRACY DAY NIGERIA
Today, as we commemorate Democracy Day, we celebrate not just a system of government, but the ideals upon which every thriving nation is built: freedom, justice, equality, participation, and the right of every citizen to have a voice.
Democracy is more than elections. It is the promise that every child can dream, every family can live in peace, and every citizen can pursue a better life regardless of their background.
As Nigerians, we recognize that while we have made progress over the years, we may not have fully begun to enjoy all the dividends of democracy which include but not limited to:
• Good governance and accountable leadership
• Security of lives and property
• Quality and affordable education
• Accessible healthcare for all citizens
• Economic stability and growth
• Employment opportunities for our youth
• Freedom of speech and expression
• Equality, fairness, and justice for all
These are the ideals that every democratic society strives to achieve, and they remain aspirations that many Nigerians continue to hope and work for.
Yet, despite the challenges we face as a nation, we remain hopeful.
We look forward to a Nigeria where every child can learn in a safe environment, where every parent can sleep peacefully without fear, and where every citizen can pursue their dreams without uncertainty.
We pray for an end to the incessant killings that have claimed innocent lives across our nation. We pray for an end to the wanton kidnappings that have left many families in fear and anguish. We pray for peace in our communities, security on our roads, and unity among our people.
May the day come soon when stories of violence, insecurity, and fear become nothing more than distant memories and cautionary tales from the past.
As educators, we believe that the future of Nigeria lies in the hands of the children we nurture today. Through quality education, sound moral values, discipline, and patriotism, we can raise a generation that will build the Nigeria we all desire.
