*FGC Bullying Death: NUJ Seeks Justice, .....
Citizen Says ‘Deploy Peace Corps Now’*
_By Concerned Citizen_
The Akwa Ibom State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) is demanding justice over the alleged bullying to death of Master UfokObong Edwin Godwin, son of a journalist, at Federal Government College, Ikot Ekpene.
The Union condemned the silence of the school principal and the slow response from authorities, calling for a transparent investigation and the prosecution of all those found responsible. NUJ noted that the case exposes weak school safety measures and should trigger urgent reforms to end bullying in boarding schools.
This was part of the issues raised during the Congress held on 14th April at the NUJ Press Centre, Information Drive, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
In view of these concerns, it is clear that our children are not safe in schools, especially in boarding facilities. As a parent and concerned citizen, I believe if officers of the Peace Corps of Nigeria, located at 12 Udo Eduok street, Uyo, were deployed to schools like FGC Ikot Ekpene, there is a strong possibility the deceased would still be alive.
The Peace Corps could help bridge the security gaps in our schools by:
1. *Providing constant supervision* in hostels where most bullying happens away from teachers’ eyes.
2. *Mediating conflicts early* before they escalate into violence or tragedy.
3. *Supporting school authorities* with trained personnel focused on discipline and student safety.
4. *Mentoring students* to reject cultism, bullying, and other vices.
The re-orientation of the childish mind to looking at life and thier future differently.
While we join NUJ in demanding justice for Master UfokObong, we must also demand preventive action.
Deploying the Peace Corps officers to schools in Akwa Ibom q is one practical step to ensure no other child dies from intimidation and abuse.📌📌📌
