Catholic priest arrested for shooting teenage boy d3ad over knockout during New Year mass in Imo\n\nA Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Joseph Enyinnaya, has been arrested in Imo State for allegedly shooting a teenage boy d3ad after he threw knockouts inside the church. \n\nThe incident happened during the New Year Mass held on January 1, 2025, at St. Columbus Catholic Church in Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area of the state. \n\nA resident claimed that the priest, in a bid to disperse a group of boys setting off knockouts within the church, fired some shots in the air.\n\n“The gun hooked up and while trying to check the firearm, it accidentally discharged and hit one of the boys,” the resident claimed.\n\nThe incident has left the community in shock and mourning, with residents expressing outrage and demanding a thorough investigation to uncover the facts behind the unfortunate event. \n\nThe spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident to LIB, adding that an investigation is ongoing.\n\n“We have launched a detailed investigation to ascertain the remote facts surrounding the incident. Further development on the case will be communicated in due course, please,” the PPRO stated. ゚

Three kidnappers k!lled as police rescue lawyer and his niece in Akwa Ibom\n\nOperatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have k!lled three suspected kidnappers during exchange of gunfire in a criminal hideout, and rescued a prominent lawyer, Emmanuel Ubengama and his niece.\n\n \n\nUbengama, a director at the Ministry of Justice, Abak local government area outstation, and his niece were abducted last Wednesday evening.\n\nIt was gathered that the hoodlums had laid ambush for the duo along the Abak – Ikot Abasi road, where they swooped on them on their way back to Abak LGA, after seeing the children in school.\n\n \n\nAccording to family sources in his Ikot Imo village in Midim, as well as his residence off Offot road in Abak town, the matter was immediately reported to the police at Abak Division, a move that spurred a quick response from the Commissioner of Police (CP), Joseph Eribo, who quickly drafted some tactical operatives to comb the area on Friday. \n\n \n\nHowever, the rescue efforts of the tactical team led the operatives to Ikot Ukpong village, the den of the kidnappers in Afahaobong area of Abak LGA, where the gun duel ensued, leading to the three suspects being neutralised while others fled.\n\n \n\nWhen the dust cleared after the shootout, operatives were said to have stormed the hideout where the victims were discovered tied down inside a purpose – built soakaway facility and promptly rescued them.\n\n \n\nThe spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Timfon John, said efforts were on to track down and arrest others on the run to face prosecution as the CP, Eribo, has zero tolerance for crimes, especially as the yuletide season approaches\n\n \n\nThe PPRO warned criminal elements that nowhere in Akwa Ibom and appealed to members of the civil society to collaborate by working in synergy with security agencies in the area of intelligence sharing to stem crimes in their domains.
