JAMB Exam Fraud: Anambra Government Has Since Found Out Mmesoma's ‘Outstanding’ Result Was Fake –Education Commissioner

Reacting to JAMB’s statement, the State Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, told journalists in Awka that the state had already discovered Mmesoma’s claim to be false.

The Anambra State government says it has since discovered that the candidate who claimed to have the highest score in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination is parading a fake result.

SaharaReporters had reported that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, on Sunday, said it would withdraw the result of a certain Ejikeme Mmesoma for manually inflating her result and announcing herself as the top scorer for the 2023 UTME.

The board in a statement accused Ejikeme of manually inflating her scores to attract a N3 million scholarship from Innoson Motors. She was also set to be honored by the Anambra State government before she was exposed.

Reacting to JAMB’s statement, the State Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, told journalists in Awka that the state had already discovered Mmesoma’s claim to be false.

Chuma-Udeh said it was on the strength of its finding that the government had to honor another candidate, identified as Nkechinyere Umeh, in her place.

Nkechinyere Umeh scored 360 in the examination.

Meanwhile, Innoson Motors has maintained that if its independent investigation finds that Mmesoma did not manipulate the result, she would still be awarded the scholarship.

Cornel Osigwe, head of Communication for Innoson Motors had stated in the company’s official reaction that the company was carrying out its independent investigation into JAMB’s revelation.

He said, "We're doing our independent investigation on the issue of manipulation, if we found that the girl in question willfully manipulated her result, we shall withdraw the scholarship, but if we observe she is innocent of the accusation, then the scholarship stands, whether she is the best or not."

Meanwhile, reactions have continued to trail JAMB’s statement with pictures of the printout of Mmesoma’s results going viral online.@

I am removing your mouths from feeding bottle’ – Otti to looters

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has vowed to recover all government funds and property in the hands of alleged corrupt persons in the State.

This is even as he has assured that his administration would disconnect the mouths of more looters of public funds and property from the ‘feeding bottle’ of the State.

Otti made the vow in Umuahia during a thanksgiving service of the Deputy Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Austin Okezie Meregini, held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church.

He explained that various changes he had made so far in the State’s civil service and the dissolution of various Boards in the State were geared towards rebuilding Abia, and vowed that every stolen public fund and property would be recovered through the recently inaugurated Panel of Inquiry.

His words:

“It is also not uncommon for you to be hearing people wailing and crying; that is expected because for the past 24 years, some people had put their mouths on the feeding bottle and since we came we removed their mouths.

“There may be a few people whose mouths we have not seen and that is why we have the Panel. We will fish out those people and remove their mouths from the feeding bottle.”

Otti said that public funds and property should be used for the good of the people, not to be cornered by a corrupt few.

“The feeding bottle is for all of us. So anytime that happens, you will hear them screaming, ‘the man is undemocratic, the man wants to spoil the State’. We have not come to spoil, we have come to rebuild.

“So, if the rebuilding tastes like spoiling to them, we can’t understand but we cannot sympathize with them,” Otti thundered, to the cheering of Church members.

He advised Abians not to lose sleep as his policies were designed for their own good.

Earlier in his speech, the Deputy Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Austin Okezie Meregini thanked God and his people for his victory during the election and for his eventual emergence as Deputy Speaker.

He promised to represent his constituency in accordance with his campaign promises.

Lawyer, retired police boss urge security agencies to arrest, question Asari Dokubo

The National Legal Adviser of the Association of Police Retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme, Ofem Obeten (DSP rtd), and Retired Superintendent of Police, Iwara Ibiang Enang, have called on the different security agencies in Nigeria to arrest and question Asari Dokubo, a Niger Delta militant leader, over his reported continual inciteful statements.

Both were guests at Let’s Talk Nigeria, a flagship Sparkling FM Radio morning discussion programme in Calabar, Cross River State.

The retired security personnel urged the federal government to call Dokubo to order immediately and investigate his claims that top military men, particularly the navy, are neck-deep in bunkering and oil thefts and that his ‘army’ is responsible for securing some parts of the country and not the Nigerian Army.

They also referred to the trending video on social media where he is seen with arms disparaging the Igbos as slaves and dismissing the capacity of Nigeria’s security strength.

“He has been making inciting public statements. These statements are outrageous and have the capacity to cause disaffection and public anger.

“That Dokubo is making these hurtful statements and parading with arms, calls for very urgent actions by security agencies…..so that it can be a deterrent to others and so that other young men do not think they can behave similarly and go Scot-free”, SP Enang said.

Obeten also insisted that Dokubo’s alleged statement against the Igbos in the trending video on social media, where he referred to them as slaves be investigated.

He said the militant leader’s statement and allegations should not be waved aside, maintaining that such impunity against the state must be well handled.

Phone-in callers also condemned the impunity with which the militant leader disparaged the Igbos and his comments about controlling security networks in the country.

Senate Presidency: PDP Senators-elect Reject Akpabio -

The aspiration of the annointed candidate for the office of the Senate President in the 10th National Assembly, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has suffered a setback as the major opposition caucus in the Senate has rejected his choice.

The much-awaited zoning arrangement for the leadership of the 10th Assembly was made public at the end of an eight-man caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held in President-elect, Bola Tinubu’s Abuja residence on Friday morning.

Akpabio, who joined the ruling APC in the build-up to the 2019 general election, is the preferred candidate of the President-elect and the leadership of the ruling party. While Senator Jibril Barau from Kano State has been picked as Deputy Senate President.

For the incoming House of Representatives, the APC Caucus led by Tinubu opted for Hon. Tajudeen Abbas from Kaduna State and Hon. Benjamin Kalu from Abia State as Speaker and Deputy Speaker, respectively.

LEADERSHIP reports that Senator Barau and Hon. Abbas are from the same North-West zone, a development that may put spanner in the works of the APC Caucus.

Also, Akpabio is not in the good books of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the National Assembly both the outgoing 9th Assembly and the incoming 10th Assembly, hence all entreaties from the former Akwa Ibom State Governor have fell on the PDP lawmakers-elect’s deaf ears.

He is said to enjoy the support of only three of the 36 PDP Senators-elect. The three Akpabio’s supporters are Senators-elect from Rivers State because of Governor Nyesom Wike’s alliance with APC at the centre.

“He is offering us money but we don’t want his money because he is not principled. He will eventually sell out the Senate if allowed to emerge the Senate President.
