IZZI HISTORY
Some hints lifted from the Book "Izhi Their History and Customs" By Nico Van Steensel (A White Man)
ENYI NWEGU Had three sons Ezekuna, Ekuma and Noyo. Ekuma is the Father of Nnodo, Nnodo founded Izzi, Ezekuna founded Ezza, Noyo founded Ikwo.
The ancestral line of Izzi is IZZI NNODO EKUMA ENYI.
Izzi as a Clan started at Anmegu and Ebyia. FromAnmegu and Ebyia other villages in Izzi developed. Any Izzi village that cannot trace their origin back to this two old communities should ask their old men the reason.
SOME FOUNDERS OF IZZI VILLAGES (COMMUNITIES) ARE:-
Ukwo Omaka Son of Egbe Ezopu founded Enyigba
Oroke Onuoha is the Father of Ebyia
Mgbom Eze is the founder of Iseke
Oroke Ebvuru grand son of Opoke Omaka founded Ida
Opoke Ichiegu founded and Nkalupfu Inyimegu founded Inyimegu
Ugo akamu founded Okpitumo
Ophoke Otumu founded Anmachi
Ede Egu Oroke founded Igbegu
Ekuma Okpara founded Agbaja
Ezopu Agada founded Echara
Abaomege and Agba people are from Izzi scattered during Izzi and Ezza tribal wars. Izhamgbo was founded by Obo Echara Ugo the grand son of Mgbom Eze
Ejeogu son of Egara from Anmegu a hunter, also founded Mgbo "Mgbo Ejeogu"
Some Ebyia people after the death of Nnodo, moved to a new settlement and became NKALEKE Community "Present day Abakaliki"
IZZI LINEAGES
Nnodo is said to have eight sons who became Fathers of two major lineages (IPFU)
IGBOJIMA AND UNWUERWA)
IGBOJIMA Sub Lineages are:-
Anmeze Nwopho
Ichilogwe
Unwu Egbe (Unwuezeopu)
Unwu Opoke
UNWUERWA LINEAGES ARE:-
Unwu-Ajagbo
Unwuetsu
Unwuekuma
Unwu Oshoga
Thease lineages are Anmegu system, As you go to other villages in Izzi, Some names of sub lineages differ but must be under IGBOJIMA AND UNWUERWA.
IZZI GOVERNMENT
the Ishi Uke of every village is the leader while the ISHI UKE of Anmegu is the general leader in Izzi clan as far as custom is concerned. Any other existing Authuority like Chief, Warrant Chiefs, Title holders, Councillors are subject to Ishi Uke's traditional rulling.
