Is This Love?

In this land of sun, where the kola nuts shine,
Love used to flow sweet, like palm wine in a vine.
But now, look around, the laughter feels strange,
Hearts are heavy, and the world has changed.

Boys and men, they chase after curves,
With hunger in their eyes, no care for what serves.
Girls and women, counting coins in their bags,
They think money be love, while their spirits lag.

How did we get here, lost in the race?
Once, love was a gift, not just a marketplace.
“Show me your heart,” used to be our call,
Now it's “Show me your pockets,” as we stumble and fall.

In the village square where the drums used to play,
Now silence lingers, and hope seems far away.
The men weave sweet words, but their hearts feel cold,
They want to taste the fruit, but their intentions unfold.

And she who smiles sweetly, just wants to survive,
In a world where kindness feels barely alive.
“What’s love?” say the children who play by the street,
When they see their parents trading warmth for deceit.

The sun sets slowly, casting shadows that creep,
As the ground grows restless, and the elders weep.
“See that man working hard, he’s wasting his time,”
The youth dismiss him, they’re chasing the climb.

Yahoo boys and their flashy cars on the road,
Bragging and flaunting the load of their code.
But deep in their laughter, do they even know?
That true love grows slow, in the heart's fertile glow.

What does it mean to love in this day?
When feelings are measured in coins we display.
They say, “Slot in with love, then cash out his heart,”
But real love is sacred, it cannot be bought.

How did we lose the tenderness, the care?
In a race for riches, we left love bare.
Tears fall like rain, as I write these lines,
Yearning for the days when love brightly shines.

Is this love that we search for in the dust?
Or just a shadow of what we’ve lost in the thrust?
Let us remember the warmth of a shared embrace,
Before the essence of love fades without a trace.

My name is Oriko Valentine, and I’m currently a fellow in the 3MTT Cohort 2 program, where I’m diving deep into software development. I wanted to take a moment to share my vision for the future and the steps I’ve mapped out to reach my goals in the tech industry.

In five years, I see myself as a Senior Software Engineer or Tech Lead at a tech company focused on cutting-edge technologies like cloud computing, AI, and scalable systems. Alternatively, I may be running my own tech firm, OVCEE CONSULT. My specialization will be in full-stack development, working on both the frontend and backend of web applications, leading teams, and solving complex technical challenges. Along the way, I also aim to mentor junior developers, contribute to open-source projects, and speak at software development conferences. Ultimately, I want to leverage my skills to make a meaningful impact in the tech world.

To get there, I’ve developed a clear roadmap that includes continuous learning, obtaining certifications, engaging in hands-on projects, and seeking mentorship.

I am focusing on mastering key technologies, including JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and React for frontend development, as well as Python, Node.js, and Django for backend development. I’m also diving into databases like MySQL and MongoDB, and cloud computing platforms such as AWS and Azure. I believe hands-on practice is the best way to master these skills, and I plan to continue building real-world projects to apply my learning.

In terms of certifications, I’ll be pursuing the 3MTT program, Cisco certifications (CCNA, CCNP), and advanced courses on platforms like Coursera and Code Academy, specializing in full-stack development, cloud computing, and AI. I will also partner with Resnous Consult for real-world projects to gain practical experience.

I’m also building a portfolio that showcases my skills through projects like a full-stack e-commerce app developed using React, Node.js, and MongoDB, a social media dashboard to demonstrate my ability to manage user data and build scalable applications, and a cloud-based analytics platform focused on data management and visualization using Python and AWS. These projects will be displayed on my GitHub profile and personal website.

I’m fortunate to have incredible mentors who inspire me—Pat Nadis, Charles Awuzie, Ezra Olubi, Sola Akinlade, Tayo Oviosu, and Ovi Abunumah. Their guidance and knowledge are invaluable as I navigate my growth as a software developer. Through their mentorship, I aim not only to develop technical skills but also to become a future leader in the tech industry.

Like any journey, there are challenges. Staying up-to-date with the fast-evolving field of technology is a constant challenge, and time management—balancing learning, project development, and personal growth—requires continuous focus and discipline. But I’m committed to overcoming these challenges and staying on track.

I’ve outlined milestones that will guide me along the way: In year one, I’ll complete my foundational skills and earn my first certification. By year two, I aim to land a junior developer role, launch my first full-stack web application, and complete an advanced course. By year three, I’ll transition to a mid-level developer role and start honing my leadership skills. In year four, I plan to earn a senior developer title and lead a major project. And by year five, I hope to be mentoring junior developers, contributing to open-source projects, and establishing myself as a thought leader in the tech community.

𝟑 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐆𝐄𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐑𝐈𝐀𝐆𝐄......❤✍

which stage are you in right now ?😅

1️⃣ The FIRST STAGE is called honey moon and lasts about two years. This stage is very sweet, nice and romantic. This is where you find names like honey, sweet heart, baby and so on. In this stage, everything is perfect. This is a stage where a man returns home and dumps his socks and shoes anywhere but in the morning, he will wake up and find them placed where they're supposed to be. This is where madam doesn't go to bed until you return home. She sits in the living room and receives all the mosquito bites waiting for you till you return, take a shower and enjoy supper. Even if you return at midnight, you find her waiting for you. Wait and see what happens in the second stage.

This first stage is beautiful with a lot of tolerance. This is a stage where at night while in bed, you release a very toxic gas and your spouse instead apologizes. Remember, you have gassed but again he tells you, "Sorry darling, it's okaaaaaay." This is unbelievable. Madam has gassed but to you, it's okay. Oh my God, this is sweet. Everything is just merry making during this stage. In conclusion, Enjoy this stage for as much as we can.

2️⃣The SECOND STAGE lasts for about ten years! This is where honey moon is over. This stage is red hot. During this stage, perhaps financial challenges have come in. You have given birth and the children are also disturbing you. Sometimes you are yet to give birth but really want to and the pressure on you is mounting from all corners. Landlords have become Landlords. There is loss of employment. Things are just tight.

Life is hard in this second stage. The man who used to return home early now returns very late. Sometimes he doesn't even return home. There are suspicions of infidelity and cheating. You don't trust each other. You feel your spouse is cheating, and infact he or she is cheating. When you return home and leave your shoes outside, in the morning, you find them where you left them. Things are hot here.
This is a stage where at night, you release a toxic gas and your partner asks what you ate during supper time yet you ate the same meals. He can even leave the bed and spend the night in the sitting room simply because you gassed. Imagine only gassing.

The second stage is hot. There are fights; spiritual, physical and in all aspects. This is the stage where you reach the point of considering separating. Each spouse shows his or her true colours in this stage. A night dancer switches on the reggae, mixes the music and punches the baseline. Your relatives taste the greedy side of your wife.
Those who persevere and overcome this stage end up keeping their marriage till death does them part. However, very many hang up the towel in this stage. They quit. In conclusion, Those who are in this stage should fight a little longer, not to hang up the towel. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Just a little longer and you are done with this heat.

3️⃣Finally, there's the LAST STAGE. This comes after the ten red hot years. This last stage is lukewarm. It's neither cold or hot. You gas at large and no one applauds you or complains. You have seen enough of each other. You have known each other's true colours.
In this stage, whatever your partner does no longer surprises you. If she quarrels, you just say that is the nature of this woman. If he is still late out in the night, you don't even bother to call since you know he will return. If she doesn't serve you food and you feel hungry, you just go and serve food otherwise, hunger hits you for nothing.

This stage is not for disturbing one another. There is a lot of calmness and commands are few. This is where if you are watching TV with her in the sitting room and you feel thirsty, you don't send her to bring for you drinking water but only wait when she's moving to the direction where there is water and you tell her if she is coming back, she can come along with some water. If she asks you to repeat what you just said, you have to pretend like you didn't say anything. All of a sudden, she shocks you and returns with drinking water. There is mutual respect in this stage. In conclusion, those in this stage should just work for eternity. congratulations to those who are in this stage for, they have come from far.

That's all for today. Maybe the reader of this post can have a reflection. Maybe you can relate to this for those married. Maybe you will relate with this for those who will marry in future. I am also busy writing here but just know perhaps, out of the three stages, I am also somewhere there enjoying or facing one of the stages. Just do a reflection. It might be helpful.
