LET ME REINTRODUCE MYSELF
Dr. Chioma Ogochukwu Anorue is a highly accomplished scholar, Public Health Parasitologist, and academic leader with a career dedicated to advancing research, education, and interventions in parasitology and global public health. She earned her Ph.D. in Public Health Parasitology from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (2021), with a dissertation on the epidemiology of uroge***al schistosomiasis in Ebonyi State, Nigeria. Her academic journey began with a B.Sc. in Zoology and an M.Sc. in Medical Parasitology/Entomology, both of which laid the foundation for her expertise in neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), vector ecology, and host–parasite interactions.
Currently serving as a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Biology at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike (AE-FUNAI), Dr. Anorue combines research excellence with administrative leadership. She teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supervises research projects, and coordinates departmental programs with a vision for building strong academic and research capacities in biological sciences. Over the years, she has held academic positions progressing from Assistant Lecturer (2013) to Senior Lecturer (2023–date), reflecting her professional growth and commitment to higher education.
Dr. Anorue’s research expertise spans:
Epidemiology and control of parasitic diseases – with a focus on schistosomiasis, malaria, and intestinal helminths.
Malacological studies – including the identification, molecular screening, and ecological analysis of vector snails.
Public health parasitology – through epidemiological surveys, knowledge–attitude–practice (KAP) studies, and intervention assessments in rural and urban communities.
Environmental health and sustainability – with experience in water quality analysis, biochar development, and biogas production for bioremediation.
Molecular and laboratory techniques – such as DNA extraction, microscopy, and microtechniques in parasitology.
Her publications—over 20 peer-reviewed journal articles in reputable international and national outlets—reflect her contribution to advancing the frontiers of parasitology and public health. She has published on diverse topics, including the distribution and infectivity of schistosomiasis vector snails, female ge***al schistosomiasis, placental malaria, intestinal helminthic infections among children, and ecological aspects of parasitic disease transmission. These works demonstrate her ability to integrate field epidemiology, laboratory analysis, and community-based interventions into impactful research.
In addition to research and teaching, Dr. Anorue plays an active leadership role in professional organizations. She is:
South-East Coordinator of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) Nigeria
Coordinator of OWSD AE-FUNAI and Ebonyi State (2021–2025)
Ebonyi State Coordinator for the Female Ge***al Schistosomiasis Society of Nigeria
AE-FUNAI and State Coordinator, Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria
Her leadership is further exemplified through her work as the CEO of Awesome Touch Global Educational and Leadership Consults, where she provides mentorship, leadership training, and academic coaching. She is also an Associate Mentor with the MasterCard Foundation, supporting young professionals and students across Africa in academic growth, career advancement, and leadership development.
