♻️ As a Quantity Surveyor, let me explain what a BOQ actually means in 60 seconds.

BOQ means Bill of Quantities. It is a document prepared to describe and measure the different items of work required to complete a construction project.

For example, if we are constructing a house, the BOQ may contain items like excavation, concrete work, blockwork, reinforcement, roofing, plastering, painting and many others.

But it doesn’t just tell us what is needed. It also shows the quantity, unit, rate and amount for each item.

So, if we have 500 blocks, the BOQ tells us the quantity—500, the rate per block, and the total amount.

Why is it important? It helps the client understand the estimated cost of the project, helps contractors price their work, and helps the Quantity Surveyor control and manage construction costs.

So whenever you hear BOQ, just remember: it is a detailed measurement and pricing document used to help plan, price and control the cost of a construction project.

For me, politics should not only be about money. It should also be about ideas, service, character, competence and the courage to speak for your people.
