Leadership, in its truest form, is measured not only by the accomplishments recorded within a tenure but also by the stability, direction, and legacy a leader leaves behind.
In the evolving political history of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, has steadily proven himself to be that rare statesman whose actions transcend routine governance. His calm, deliberate and strategic approach to leadership has not only strengthened the All Progressives Congress in Ogun state but has also begun to redefine the narrative of political succession in the Gateway State. Indeed, in every sense of the expression, DA stands as the Real MVP.
In appreciation of the significance of the governorβs recent political moves, one must reflect on the turbulent political history that once reshaped the leadership trajectory of Ogun State. The event, leading to the 2011 governorship election within the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party remains one of the most defining chapters in the stateβs democratic journey. The crisis that engulfed the then-ruling party created deep divisions and internal fractures that ultimately altered the balance of power in the state. What should have been a seamless transition of leadership turned into a bitter struggle that weakened party cohesion and opened the door for a new political order.
Out of that turbulent political environment emerged Senator Ibikunle Amosun, who rose to become the Governor of Ogun State in 2011. His victory marked a major shift in the political configuration of the state and signalled the end of an era dominated by internal conflicts within the previous ruling establishment. However, as history would later show, the question of succession and the complexities surrounding the choice of a successor once again surfaced during the later years of that administration and that reinforced the long-standing challenge of leadership transition in Ogun State politics.
