Not Sunny Ade or Ebenezer Obey – Meet the Real Father of Juju Music

Long before Sunny Ade and Ebenezer Obey became famous, there was Tunde King the man who started it all.

In the 1920s and 1930s, Lagos was a lively city full of Yoruba locals and people who had returned from places like Brazil and Cuba. Together, they created a new music style called Palm Wine music, which mixed Yoruba traditional sounds with foreign influences. From this, Juju music was born right in a mechanic’s workshop in the Olowogbowo area of Lagos.

That’s where a group of young men would gather to drink, play music, and enjoy life. Tunde King led the group.

Who Was Tunde King?

Abdulrafiu Babatunde King was born on August 24, 1910, in Olowogbowo, Lagos Island, where many Saro (returnee African) families lived. His father, Ibrahim Sanni King, was a top court clerk and had spent time in Sierra Leone. Though Tunde was Muslim, he went to a Christian primary school and later attended Eko Boys’ High School. That’s where a classmate taught him to play the guitar.

Tunde became known among his friends who gathered at a mechanic's shop to talk, sing, and play homemade instruments. By 1929, he had a day job as a clerk and played music part-time. By the mid-1930s, his fame grew. He made records, performed on radio, and played live at events, which was how he earned most of his money.

For example, he performed at the wake-keeping of the well-known doctor Oguntola Sapara in June 1935. He usually charged about 8 shillings per show, but guests often gave extra gifts while he performed. On good nights, he and his band made over £15, and once, a woman even threw him a golden bracelet worth £50 as he sang her praises.

Tunde King’s music was simple but powerful. His songs were full of wisdom and emotion. One of his most touching songs was made to comfort **Dr. Macaulay** after the loss of his daughter.

Tunde King passed away in the 1980s, but his impact lives on. He laid the foundation for Juju music in Nigeria and his name deserves to be remembered.

JUNE 12: HOW MKO ABIOLA D!£D – Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar Speaks 🕊️

Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, remains a towering figure in Nigeria’s journey toward democracy. His election victory—considered one of the freest and fairest in the nation’s history—was cru£lly annulled by the military regime led by General Ibrahim Babangida, igniting widespread protests and a deep national crisis.

Abiola’s defiance in reclaiming his mandate and his eventual imprisonm£nt turned him into a symbol of resistance, cutting across ethnic and religious lines—an uncommon feat in Nigerian politics.

He was d£t@ined for four years, and on July 7, 1998, just as Nigeria stood on the cusp of transition, tragedy struck: Abiola di£d in custody—a moment that shook the nation and the world.

🔍 What really happened?

Former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar, who assumed power after the sudden d£ of Gen. Sani Abacha in June 1998, finally gave his account. He denied longstanding rumors that Abiola was p0!soned, insisting instead that:

He was not p0!s0ned. He d!£d of natural causes. Abiola had health issues, and he c0ll@psed while meeting with an American delegation. He was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved.

General Abubakar added that autopsies were carried out by international and local doctors, including representatives from the U.S. and Abiola’s family, and they all confirmed he d!£d of natural causes—likely heart-related.

🔹 Legacy Lives On

Though he never took office, Abiola’s d£ solidified his role as a martyr for democracy. His sacrifice became a rallying point for civil society and the international community, ultimately contributing to the return to civilian rule in 1999.

Today, June 12 is celebrated as Democracy Day in Nigeria—not just to honor Abiola, but to remember the cost of freedom and the importance of upholding the will of the people.

🕯️ Rest in Power, MKO.

‘Wanted Kidnapper’ Yahaya Zango Arrested While Preparing For Hajj Pilgrimage in Abuja Airport

Men of the Department of State Services (DSS), have arrested a wanted kidnapper at the Hajj Camp in Abuja during pilgrim screenings ahead of their departure to Saudi Arabia, a security source confirmed this.

The security source revealed that the suspected kidnapper, identified as Yahaya Zango, was arrested on Sunday.

Zango, who resides in the Paikon-Kore area of the Gwagwalada Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), had reportedly been declared wanted by security agencies over his alleged involvement in multiple kidnapping incidents.

According to the source, Zango was apprehended after he presented his passport as part of a group of Muslim pilgrims from Abuja preparing to embark on this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.

“It was this afternoon during the screening at the hajj camp in the airport when the DSS operatives apprehended him and whisked him away,” the source was quoted as saying.

A senior official from the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, who preferred to remain anonymous, also confirmed the suspect’s arrest.

Daily Trust gathered that the suspect had been on the run following a security-led manhunt.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has yet to issue an official statement regarding the development.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME, BRO — ONLY TAKE A WOMAN SERIOUS IF SHE'S SHOWING YOU THESE 23 SIGNS

A Savage & Eye-Opening Thread for Men Who Want Peace, Not Problems:

Not every woman deserves your energy.
Not every fine face deserves your loyalty.
If she’s not coming correct, walk away like a king.

Here are 23 clear green flags that show she’s WORTH your time, focus, and commitment:

1. She Gives Peace, Not Pressure
Being with her feels calm, not chaotic.

2. She Doesn’t Post Everything Online
She values privacy over attention.

3. She Knows How to Be Feminine Without Being Weak
Soft, not stupid. Classy, not clingy.

4. She’s Not Moved by Money Alone
She respects hustle, not just your wallet.

5. She Can Handle Delays Without Drama
No “you don’t love me” just because you’re busy building.

6. She Brings Ideas, Not Just Problems
She helps you think, plan, and grow.

7. She’s Grateful, Even for Small Things
She doesn’t act entitled. She appreciates effort.

8. She’s Not Competing With You
She supports your shine, not trying to outshine you.

9. She’s Loyal When You’re Broke, Not Just When You Ball
Her love isn’t tied to your bank balance.

10. She Doesn’t Make You Chase Validation
You don’t have to prove your worth daily—she sees your value.

11. She Listens More Than She Argues
Communication is not a battlefield with her.

12. She’s Got a Life of Her Own
You’re not her entire world—she’s complete on her own.

13. She Knows When to Speak and When to Stay Silent
Wisdom, not noise.

14. She’s Not Always Online Hunting Attention
Likes and comments don’t drive her worth.

15. She Respects How You Lead
Even when she doesn’t fully agree, she follows your direction with grace.

16. She Keeps Her Body for You, Not the Internet
No thirst traps. No ‘for the streets’ behavior.

17. She Doesn’t Play Manipulation Games
No fake tears. No silent treatment. No guilt traps.

18. She’s Emotionally Mature
She doesn’t turn every conversation into a war.

19. She Encourages Discipline, Not Distraction
She helps you stay focused, not fall off your goals.

20. She’s Not Afraid of Sacrifice
She’ll stick through tough times, not run when it gets hard.

21. She Sees the Future, Not Just the Moment
She plans life with you, not just dates and vibes.

22. She Prays For You, Not Just Posts You
She covers you spiritually, not just for social media clout.

23. She Brings You Closer to Your Purpose, Not Away From It
You feel stronger, clearer, more driven when she’s around.

BOTTOM LINE:
Don’t commit because of pressure.
Don’t settle because of beauty.
Wait for substance, peace, loyalty, and purpose.

If she’s not showing you signs like these,
she’s not a life partner—she’s just a delay in disguise.

YORUBA: A NATION OF 26 TRIBES, A SHARED ANCESTRY

A nation is defined as a community of people bound together by a common language, history, ethnicity, culture, and, in many cases, a shared territory. The Yoruba people, also known historically as the Omoluàbí , form a distinct nation with deep historical and cultural roots traced back to Ile-Ife, the ancestral home of the Yoruba civilization.

Despite recent claims by some subgroups denying their Yoruba identity, historical and genealogical records confirm that they remain Yoruba by ancestry. Their origins, traditions, and cultural practices all point to a shared lineage that cannot be erased by modern political or social narratives.

The Yoruba nation consists of 26 distinct tribes, each contributing to the rich tapestry of Yoruba heritage:

Yoruba-Ife

Yoruba-Oyo

Yoruba-Igbomina

Yoruba-Ekiti

Yoruba-Owé

Yoruba-Òwòrò

Yoruba-Akoko

Yoruba-Ijesa

Yoruba-Owo

Yoruba-Akure

Yoruba-Ondo

Yoruba-Ikale

Yoruba-Ilaje

Yoruba-Egba

Yoruba-Ijebu

Yoruba-Awori

Yoruba-Yewa

Yoruba-Ohori (Benin Republic)

Yoruba-Onko

Yoruba-Remo

Yoruba-Ife or Ana (Togo)

Yoruba-Itsekiri

Yoruba-Ibarapa

Additionally, major Yoruba urban centers such as Lagos, Ibadan, and Ilorin are melting pots of multiple Yoruba tribes:

Lagos – A combination of Awori, Ijebu, Remo, Egba, and Yewa tribes.

Ibadan – A combination of Oyo, Ijebu, Egba, Remo, and Yewa tribes.

Ilorin – A combination of Oyo, Igbomina, Ekiti, Oworo, and Owe tribes.

The Yoruba identity is not just about language or geography—it is about shared ancestry, traditions, and a legacy that has stood the test of time. The attempt by some groups to sever themselves from this rich heritage is a modern construct that does not align with historical reality. The Yoruba nation, with its diverse yet unified cultural landscape, remains a force to be reckoned with in African history.

Dr. Kunle Adeniji's body was recovered after the kidnappers' demands were met. In February, Dr. Adeniji, a national director of the All Progressives Congress, was kidnapped along with his brother's family in Abuja. Despite the kidnappers collecting a ransom, Dr. Adeniji's life was not spared. According to reports, Dr. Adeniji was visiting his brother's residence in the Chikakore area of Kubwa, Federal Capital Territory, when armed men struck during the abduction. During the incident, Dr. Adeniji's brother's wife, Esther, was shot and later abandoned in a community in Niger State. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of N350 million from Dr. Adeniji's family, but only N50 million was paid before Dr. Adeniji's life was taken. Dr. Adeniji's brother and son were kidnapped along with him and survived the ordeal. May his soul rest in peace. HAA OLAGBARA NO GOOD SECURITY

BOY USES HIS ENTIRE SAVINGS ON BOOTS FOR A POOR CLASSMATE—SAME DAY, A TRUCK WITH A REWARD ARRIVES AT HIS HOUSE
Lucas had spent seven months saving every penny to buy the sneakers he had always dreamed of. His mom couldn’t afford to get them for him, as she worked tirelessly to support him and his two sisters.
One day, his piggy bank was finally full, and he could afford his dream shoes. On the bus ride home from school, Lucas excitedly told his friend Oliver about it. Suddenly, the bus hit a pothole, and Oliver ’s worn-out shoe slid onto the floor.
Lucas couldn’t believe his eyes—holes in the soles, fraying canvas, and not even a trace of laces. It struck him deeply.
Later that same day, Lucas brought Guillermo to the store. But instead of buying his sneakers, Lucas used his savings to buy Oliver a sturdy pair of boots. Sacrificing his dream felt right, knowing Oliver’s feet would stay warm and protected.
That evening, as Lucas was basking in the joy of helping his friend, his mom called out, 'Lucas! Someone’s at the door for you—they’ve come with a big truck!' 😳👇

The Vatican is Silent... but the World is Watching.

Behind closed doors, Cardinals from across the globe are preparing for the most important vote of their lives: the election of a new Pope.

Will the next spiritual leader of over 1.3 billion Catholics come from Africa, Asia, Europe, or Latin America? A reformer? A traditionalist? A surprise?

For now, the Sistine Chapel remains quiet. But soon... the bells will ring.

Kehinde and Taiwo Ogundipe: Twins Who Share One Wife

In 1978, a magazine called Drum published a story about twins Kehinde and Taiwo Ogundipe. They were married to the same woman, who already had a baby with them.

One of the twins explained their decision, saying: "We wanted to show the world that just like one man can have many wives, twins can share things to show we're one.

God made us to be together in everything we do.
