HAPPENING NOW: Students of the polytechnic Ibadan have staged a protest to the state secretariat over the change of the institution's name from The Polytechnic Ibadan to Victor Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic in honour of the former late Governor.
The students insisted that the institution's legacy of over 50 years would be jeopardized with the change of name.
They also stressed that they have worn with pride the institution's name, as the only polytechnic in Nigeria with an article "THE", appealing that they were opened to discussion on the renaming of any infrastructure in the school after the late former Governor Dr Victor Omololu Olunloyo, rather than the entire institution.
Recall that Governor Seyi Makinde made the announcement for the change of the institution's name in honour of the former late Governor during a state funeral/commendation service held at the Obafemi Awolowo stadium Liberty Ibadan last Thursday.
