Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has resigned from his position to pursue his ambition of contesting the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.

In a resignation letter dated March 26 and addressed to President Bola Tinubu, Adelabu said the decision would allow him “to fully pursue my aspiration to contest for the office of Governor of Oyo State and to dedicate my time and resources to that endeavour.”

His resignation follows a directive requiring political appointees seeking elective positions in the 2027 general elections to leave office on or before March 31. The directive was issued in line with provisions of the Electoral Act guiding political participation by public office holders.

Adelabu, a former deputy governor of operations at the Central Bank of Nigeria, has previously contested the Oyo governorship election twice. He ran on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in 2019 and later contested under the Accord Party in 2023.
