Ex-Security Guard Behind Killing of Former Broadcaster Oyesiku, Police Confirm

The police command in Ogun on Thursday paraded three suspects in connection with the alleged murder of a former broadcaster with OGTV, Ms Kitan Oyesiku and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Bode Ojajuni, who presented the suspects at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta on Thursday, said investigations had progressed significantly, leading to the arrest of the trio

Ojajuni explained that forensic analysis of a handwritten note and technical tracking led to the arrest of the suspects.

The commissioner of police said the principal suspect, a former security guard to the deceased, recruited two accomplices, to execute the crime.

According to him, the principal suspect confessed to recruiting the accomplices and participating in the murder to allegedly teach the deceased a lesson.

The police boss commended the public for supporting the investigation, which led to the apprehension of all suspects connected with the incident.

He said the case was reported at Owode Egba police station following suspicious activities at the residence of the deceased.

"Preliminary findings showed that the front door of the residence had been partially damaged, while the security post within the compound was locked.

"Detectives who gained access to the premises found the lifeless body of the security guard, inside the security house.

"The body of the late broadcaster was discovered in a pool of blood in the living room of the main building.

"Investigators also discovered that the deceased's Lexus RX 330 vehicle was missing, raising suspicion of robbery and murder.

The command subsequently launches intensive intelligence gathering and technical tracking operations to identify those responsible and recovered the vehicle.

"The missing vehicle was later traced and recovered on Monday through credible intelligence and technical analysis.

The breakthrough came after investigators linked the abandoned vehicle to the vicinity of the principal suspect's residence," he said.

The commissioner noted that the principal suspect allegedly killed the security guard to eliminate any witness who could expose his involvement.

He added that the principal suspects admitted to committing the crime and also recruited other two suspects.

According to him, the suspect complained that his salary was inadequate during his period of service.

He added that findings further discovered that the suspect frequently demanded money from the deceased after leaving her employment.

The police commissioner explained that investigations were ongoing to consolidate evidence and ensure diligent prosecution of all persons connected with the crime.

Ojajuni reiterated police commitment to securing justice for the victims and their families.

NSCDC, Ogun NUJ Strengthen Partnership on Security, Information Management

The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the media as part of efforts to enhance security and public safety across the state.

The State Commandant of the Corps, Mrs. Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo, reaffirmed the commitment during her courtesy visit to the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, in Abeokuta on Wednesday 6th of May 2026, where she was received by the Chairman of the Council, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, alongside executive members and journalists.

In her address, Ekundayo said the visit was aimed at deepening institutional collaboration between the NSCDC and the media, which she described as a critical partner in the security architecture of Ogun State.

She noted that journalists play strategic roles beyond news reporting by shaping public perception, influencing attitudes and serving as a bridge between government institutions and the people.

The commandant explained that the NSCDC, under its statutory mandate, is responsible for the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure, prevention of vandalism and economic sabotage, disaster management, conflict resolution, implementation of the Safe Schools Initiative and regulation of private guard companies.

Highlighting some achievements of the command over the last one and a half years, Ekundayo disclosed that over 210 suspects had been arrested for offences ranging from vandalism to fraud and illegal mining.

Speaking during the visit, Olanrewaju described the Commandant’s presence at the NUJ secretariat as historic and significant, noting that it was the first time an NSCDC state commandant would officially visit the council’s secretariat.

He said the gesture reflected the growing relationship between the NSCDC and the media in Ogun State, stressing the importance of collaboration between security agencies and journalists in promoting peace, security and public accountability.

The NUJ chairman also highlighted the historical relevance of Ogun State to journalism practice in Nigeria, describing the council as the “cradle of journalism” in the country.

According to him, the first newspaper in Nigeria, Iwe Iroyin, was established in Abeokuta in 1859 by Reverend Henry Townsend, adding that the NUJ secretariat was deliberately named after the publication to preserve its legacy.

“Ogun State occupies a unique place in the history of journalism in Nigeria. The first newspaper in the country was published here in Abeokuta, and we remain proud of that heritage,” he said.

Olanrewaju commended the NSCDC for its role in safeguarding lives and critical national assets, as well as maintaining peace and order in society.

He added that the media and the Corps share a common responsibility of protecting public interest through information dissemination, accountability and security advocacy.

“This shared responsibility makes our partnership not only necessary but strategic. We appreciate the work the NSCDC is doing, and we are committed to supporting efforts aimed at ensuring a safer society,” he stated.

Commandant Ekundayo also added that the command had also carried out intelligence-driven operations that prevented several criminal activities, protected pipelines, railway corridors and power installations, resolved over 1,700 disputes through Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms, and recovered more than ₦23 million in fraud-related cases for victims.

The commandant called on journalists in the state to continue supporting the activities of the Corps through accurate reportage, public sensitisation and dissemination of verified information capable of enhancing public awareness and cooperation.

She assured the NUJ of the command’s commitment to professionalism, transparency and proactive service delivery, while expressing optimism that the relationship between the Corps and the media would continue to grow stronger.

The visit also featured interactions between officers of the Corps and members of the NUJ executive council.
