Governor Dapo Abiodun Urges Journalists to Embrace Digital Learning to Stay Relevant

There is the need for Journalists to embrace digital learning and adapt to the emerging technologies to stay relevant in the media landscape.

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State stated this while declaring open a 2-day Media Training and Retreat for Journalists in Ogun State put together by the IHS Nigeria Limited in collaboration with the Correspondents' Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, held in Abeokuta.

Governor Abiodun who was represented by the Special Adviser to the governor on Media, Mr Kayode Akinmade described the retreat as a platform to address gaps in areas such as social mentorship, career planning, digital skills, leadership development, and financial viability, among others.

He reaffirmed the present administration's commitment to continue to partner the media practitioners to drive the economic growth and development of the state

In a lecture entitled " Understanding the workability of Conventional and New Media: The Pros and Cons" A lecturer at the Nigerian institute of journalism, Lagos,Mr lekan Otufodunrin encouraged practitioners to audit their skills, master digital tools and continuously update their knowledge to meet global standards.

Mr Otufodunrin emphasised the need for media houses to adopt digital-first operations and explore the use of Artificial Intelligence, AI, responsibly

In a remark, the Director Legal, IHS Nigeria, Yemisi Diya-Salawu explained that training was part of IHS Nigeria's sustainability and community impact activities, aimed to enhance the capacity of journalists working across various platforms in Ogun State.

She also noted that the training was designed to equip journalists with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their profession, particularly in areas such as new media, legal defense, and economic reporting.

Emphasizing the company's commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, Diya-Salawu highlighted the importance of connectivity in driving socioeconomic growth.

Earlier, the Chairman, Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ogun State Council, Mr Rasak Ayinla commended the organizers for prioritizing capacity building for journalists, noting that such training would enhance professionalism and ethical standards in news reporting.

Ogun State HoS Emphasises Importance of People Management in Driving Organisational Success

The Ogun State Head of Service, HOS, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, has described people management as a critical driver of organisational success in an increasingly complex and rapidly changing world.

​Mr. Onasanya stated this in Abuja while leading the Ogun State delegation at the 57th International Conference and Exhibition of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management, CIPM, Africa's largest human resources event with the theme, "Reimagining the New World of Work,".

Mr Onasanya pointed out that the conference theme was in alignment with the various reforms under the 'Building Our Future Together' agenda of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration especially in repositioning the Civil Service through institutional reforms and capacity training, resulting in a positive shift towards a citizen-centred government.

The Ogun State head of service expressed optimism that academy would deepen professionalism, enhance the employee ecosystem, and foster innovative strategies essential for building a workforce that could thrive in constant change.

Sixth Sense Initiative Encourages Children to Develop Consistent Reading Habit

Stakeholders have emphasized the need for children to cultivate and sustain a strong reading culture as a means to enhance learning and communication skills.

They made the call during the ISupport Children Reading Culture Campaign, where they underscored the role of reading in shaping confident, knowledgeable, and articulate future leaders.

The event, organized by the Sixth Sense Initiative ,held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library ,OOPL featured pupils aged five to twelve engaging in reading, spelling, and summarizing activities to boost comprehension and self-expression.

The Oluwo of Owu Kingdom, Professor Saka Matemilola, who spoke through the Balogun Apomu, Chief Bidemi Osunbiyi advised pupils to embrace regular reading to strengthen their communication skills.

In her goodwill message, The General Manager, Radio Nigeria Paramount FM, Abeokuta, Mrs. Oluremi Olugbenro, urged the learners to cultivate a consistent reading habit, describing it as a powerful tool for personal growth, knowledge building, and lifelong success

Super Falcons Captain Rasheedat Ajibade Reflects on Tense Draw with Benin, Emphasizes Need for Continuous Improvement

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has acknowledged that the team wasn’t at its best in the 1-1 draw against Benin Republic in the second leg of the 2026 WAFCON qualifier, but emphasized the need for continuous improvement to maintain their high standards.

Speaking after the match at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Ajibade revealed that the team wasn’t confident going into the game, knowing that Benin would come out strong with nothing to lose. “We expected them to come all out again in the second leg. So we know that they have nothing to lose than to try to get a point or something. And a point against the Falcons is really huge for them because you can see how they celebrated that,” she said.

Ajibade stressed that the draw wasn’t the best performance from the team, but saw it as an opportunity to learn and get better. “Today wasn’t the best of our performance but there’s always opportunities to learn and be better and also focus on the next game that comes,” she added.

The captain also expressed her gratitude for being given the opportunity to lead the team, describing it as a huge honour. “I think it’s a huge honour for talented professional players. Today is just one of the other days I’ve had the privilege to lead the team so I do appreciate it. I thank my coach and everyone who has believed in me to have the courage to make me the leader of the team because I’m pretty sure they’ve seen the competence and everything. So it’s a huge honour for me.”

Despite the draw, the Super Falcons have qualified for the 2026 WAFCON with a 3-1 aggregate win over Benin Republic.

Falcons Qualify for 2026 WAFCON, Coach Promises Stronger Team After Benin Draw

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have qualified for the 2026 Women's African Cup of Nations, WAFCON following a 3-1 aggregate win over the Amazons of Benin Republic.

The Justin Madugu side were held to a one all draw by the Benin Republic in the second leg of the WAFCON qualifier played at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena Kuto Abeokuta.

The Super Falcons had last Friday defeated the Amazons of Benin Republic by two goals to nil in front of their home supporters, with goals from Chinwendu Ihezuo and Esther Okoronkwo.

Ashleigh Plumptre had put the Super Falcons ahead in the 12th minutes of the game before Yasminath Djibril equalised for the visitor in the 60th minutes.

Speaking after the match, The head coach of the Super Falcons of Nigeria, Justin Madugu apologized to Nigerians for the team’s underwhelming performance against Benin Republic, describing the result an "off day" for the reigning champions.

Coach Madugu acknowledged that expectations were high, especially after their historic 10th WAFCON title win in Morocco adding that the performance of the team was a wake-up call to know there was more work to be done.

He assured fans that the team would regroup, learn from the experience, and continue pushing for excellence on the continental stage.

Governor Abiodun Boosts Super Falcons with ₦50m, Unveils Plans for 5-Star Hotel, Cinema at MKO Abiola Sports Arena

Ogun State government says it is poised to further develop the MKO Abiola Sports Arena with a four or five-star hotel, cinema, shopping center amongst several other laudable developments.

Governor Dapo Abiodun made this known at Oke Mosan while receiving the Super Falcons of Nigeria, ahead of their second leg of the Women's African Cup of Nations, WAFCON, 2026 qualifier against the Amazons of Benin Republic, on Tuesday, 28th October, 2025.

Announcing the sum of 50 million Naira to support the team, Governor Abiodun described the second coming of the Super Falcons to the MKO Abiola Sports Arena as a validation of the fact that the state was doing something right.

While congratulating the team for their historic 10th WAFCON title, Governor Abiodun noted that their remarkable victory in Morocco where they lifted their 10th title lifted the nation and ensured that every Nigerian was extremely excited.

The governor also said that what the Super Falcons are doing goes beyond just playing soccer, adding that they are exemplifying leadership, teamwork and discipline.

Earlier, the head coach of the team; Justin Madugu acknowledged the reception,support, huge following, concern and care the team always receives anytime it is in Abeokuta, adding that the MKO Abiola Sports Arena with its world class facilities has made their job an easy one.

Speaking on behalf of the team, the captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for his continuous support and for putting in place a world class playing turf and facility for their usage, adding that the Falcons would continue to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians by ensuring resounding victories anytime they put on the green and white jerseys of the country.

Ogun State Rallies Support for Super Falcons' WAFCON Qualifier in Abeokuta

​Ogun State Government has thrown its full weight behind the Super Falcons as they head into their crucial final qualifying match for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

​Nigeria's senior women’s national football team is set to face the Benin Republic on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Kuto, Abeokuta. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 PM.

Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, in a statement called for football enthusiasts to turn out in force and cheer the team to victory.

​“The Ogun State Government is fully behind the Super Falcons. We are proud to welcome them back to Abeokuta, and we urge all our football-loving fans to fill the MKO Abiola Stadium and support our girls as they aim to secure qualification for the WAFCON tournament,” the Commissioner stated.

Religious leader Urges Christians to Trust God Amid Life's Challenges at Mercy City's Unshakable Finale

A thanksgiving service to round off the 2025 Youth Anniversary of Mercy City International Christian Church, Laderin Estate, Abeokuta, has been held with a call on Christians to trust God wholeheartedly and remain steadfast in faith despite life’s challenges.

In a sermon ,the Pastor in charge of the church, Pastor Lanre Taiwo, described the anniversary with the theme, “Unshakeable,” as timely and relevant, noting that many Christians today are being shaken by life’s circumstances, health challenges and societal pressures.

Pastor Taiwo identified disobedience and life’s trials as some of the forces that often test a believer’s faith, noting that storms are inevitable but should draw Christians closer to God rather than leave them overwhelmed by their circumstances.

The cleric further charged the congregation not to compromise their values but to be distinct, God-fearing, and actively involved in deeds that advance God’s kingdom as well as contribute positively to the society.

He also urged the youths to retrace their steps and shun acts capable of truncating or jeopardizing their future,while reminding them that true strength comes from living responsibly and walking in obedience to God’s word.

Earlier,the Youth Coordinator of the Church, Mr Olamilekan Ogundipe urged the youths to stay focused on their purpose and uphold godly character, noting that discipline and integrity are keys to a meaningful and impactful life.

Highpoint of the event was a series of soul-lifting song renditions, drama presentations and other inspiring activities that showcased the talents and creativity of the youths.

Chief Obasanjo Leads Tributes as Abeokuta Commemorates 20th Anniversary of Stella's Passing

It was a moment of reflection as family members, friends, and associates of Former President,Chief Olusegun Obasanjo gathered in Abeokuta to commemorate the 20th memorial service of the late former First Lady, Mrs. Stella Obasanjo.

The event which was held at the Chapel of Christ the Glorious King, Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, drew dignitaries, including former Ogun State Governors,Senator Gbenga Daniel and Senator Ibikunle Amosun among others.

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo while speaking with journalists shortly after the service, described the event as a celebration of a life well spent in service to others.

The younger brother of the deceased,Mr John Abebe, described her as a calm and cheerful personality who brought comfort and hope to her family and everyone around her, even in difficult times.

Also,her son,Mr Olumuyiwa Obasanjo, reflected on her enduring influence, noting that her values of discipline, kindness and strength continued to shape those she left behind.

In his sermon, Reverend Yusufu Obaje, the Pioneer Chaplain of the State House, Abuja, commended the late Mrs. Obasanjo’s life of humility, faith and service to God, describing her as an example of purposeful living.

The gathering ended with prayers and thanksgiving, as family and friends celebrated two decades of cherished memories and a legacy that continues to inspire.
