It is widely known that a kinship bond—specifically that of cousins—exists between the Olowu and the Alaafin: the Olowu is a descendant of Oduduwa’s eldest daughter, Olawumi Iyunade, while the Alaafin is a descendant of Oduduwa’s youngest grandson, Oranmiyan.

Chieftaincy Honour: Gbademu of Owu Kingdom and Yeye Gbademu of Owu Kingdom

Alayeluwa Oba Saka Adelola Matemilola, Oluyalo Otileta VII, the Olowu of Owu Abeokuta, bestowed the prestigious titles of Gbademu of Owu Kingdom on Chief Hon. Dr. Oladipupo Olatunde Adebutu, K.J.W., FCPA, and Yeye Gbademu of Owu Kingdom on Chief Mrs. Adenike Adebutu.

The honour celebrates their distinguished service, commitment to community development, and valuable contributions to humanity, as well as their dedication to the progress and unity of Owu Kingdom.

Egba National Association USA/Canada Adire & Award Night

Alayeluwa, Oba Saka Adeola Matemilola, Olowu of Owu Kingdom, joined Alayeluwa, Oba Dr. Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, CFR, Okukenu IV, Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, at the Egba National Association USA/Canada Adire & Award Night at Ake Palace.

The event was organized as part of activities marking their 10th Biennial Convention and 20th Anniversary.

The gathering celebrated Our culture and heritage through Adire, while recognizing outstanding individuals for their contributions and achievements.

The Olowu of Owu, Abeokuta, at the Alaafin of Oyo’s 1st Coronation Anniversary

Alayeluwa, Oba Saka Adelola Matemilola, Oluyalo Otileta VII, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Abeokuta, joined the Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, on Saturday, 5th September 2026, to mark his 1st Coronation Anniversary.

The event brought together traditional rulers, leaders and friends from across the country to celebrate the Alaafin’s first year on the throne and honour the rich heritage of the Yoruba people.
