BREAKING: Concerned Party Members Raise Eyebrows.

The concerned members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) raise concerns over alleged favouritism. The write up below;

A CALL FOR FAIRNESS AND JUSTICE IN PDP’S CANDIDATE SELECTION PROCESS IN REMO OGUN STATE

"As a concerned member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Remo North Local Government, I feel compelled to address an issue that threatens the democratic principles our party holds dear. It is with a heavy heart that I bring to light the undue influence of a so-called leader from Ikene local government, who has shown blatant favouritism toward a particular aspirant, Asiwaju Abolarinwa Oluwole. ABO, in our party’s candidate selection process.

This favouritism is not only undemocratic but also detrimental to the progress and success of our party in Remo. Asiwaju Abolarinwa Oluwole. ABO, the alleged favourite of this leader, has consistently borne the flag of our party in general elections, only to lead us to defeat time and time again. As loyal party members, we are tired of losing out every single time Oluwole represents the PDP. It is disheartening to see our collective efforts and aspirations dashed due to the imposition of a candidate who has repeatedly failed to deliver victory.

The PDP is a party built on the principles of fairness, justice, and inclusivity. It is, therefore, unacceptable for any individual, no matter their position, to manipulate the candidate selection process to favour their preferred aspirant. This not only undermines the democratic rights of other aspirants but also alienates party members who feel their voices are being silenced.

We call on the so-called leaders across REMO to allow all aspirants to exercise their political rights freely and fairly. Let the best candidate emerge through a transparent and democratic process, one that reflects the will of the people and the interests of the party. It is only by embracing fairness and justice that we can rebuild trust within our ranks and present a united front capable of winning elections.

Furthermore, we urge the national leadership of the PDP to intervene and ensure that the candidate selection process in Remo is conducted in a manner that upholds the party’s values. The era of imposing candidates must end if we are to regain the confidence of the electorate and secure victory in future elections.

As members of the PDP, we are committed to the growth and success of our party. However, this commitment must be reciprocated with fairness, transparency, and respect for democratic principles. Let us not allow the selfish interests of a few to jeopardize the future of our party and the aspirations of the people we seek to serve.

Together, we can restore the PDP’s glory in Remo North and beyond. But this can only happen if we stand firm against favouritism and work collectively to ensure that the best candidates represent our party. The time for change is now.

A concerned member,
People's Democratic Party (PDP)

Osun: Sacked LG Chairman Gunned Down, Two Killed in Boripe Clash

In a shocking turn of events, Remi Abass, the sacked chairman of Irewole Local Government in Osun State, was shot dead by unknown gunmen on Monday. The attack occurred at the local government secretariat in Ikire, with eyewitnesses describing a chaotic scene as the assailants stormed the premises in broad daylight, firing multiple gunshots.

“It was sudden and chaotic. People ran for safety,” said a local resident who requested anonymity. The Osun State Police Command confirmed the incident, with Police Public Relations Officer, SP Yemisi Opalola, stating that investigations had commenced. “We are working to apprehend the perpetrators and restore calm in the area,” she assured.

Abass, who was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was among the local government chairmen sacked by a Federal High Court in Osogbo in November 2022. His murder has heightened tensions in the state, which is already grappling with political unrest.

In a related incident, two individuals were killed in Boripe Local Government Area during a violent clash between suspected hoodlums affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC). The victims, identified as Ege and Igara, were reportedly shot dead during the fracas.

Ege, who recently defected from the APC to the PDP, was said to be the only son of his parents, with his father also a PDP member. Another victim, Yinka, a photographer, was critically injured and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

The violence has sparked panic in the area, with residents fleeing for safety. The incidents highlight the growing political tensions in Osun State, raising concerns about the safety of public officials and citizens alike.

Authorities have called for calm, urging residents to avoid actions that could escalate the situation. Meanwhile, the police have intensified efforts to restore order and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Edo Panel Indicts Ex-Governor Obaseki, Others Over N95 Billion LG Fund Mismanagement

An administrative panel of inquiry set up by Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has indicted former Governor Godwin Obaseki, impeached Local Government Chairmen, and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly mismanaging and diverting N95 billion in Local Government funds.

The panel, tasked with investigating the financial accounts of the 18 impeached Local Government Chairmen between September 4, 2023, and November 2024, submitted its report on Sunday. According to the panel’s chairman, Solomon Imohiosen, the funds received from the Joint Allocation Account Committee (JAAC) were either mismanaged or diverted into private accounts.

Imohiosen revealed that the panel uncovered significant irregularities, including the fraudulent diversion of over N10.4 billion under the pseudo-name “Security, Environment, and Training.” He alleged that the funds were siphoned through various individuals and companies, with the embattled chairman of Orhionmwon Local Government, Newman Ugiagbe, and his hotel, Demarriots Hotels Limited, playing a central role in the scheme.

Other indicted individuals include Ahonsi Ogiegbaen Osifo, Eric Agbonmwanre, Abraham Burma, and Dickson Imasogie Notiemwenmwan. The panel noted that despite receiving N95,080,676,687.86 from JAAC, no meaningful projects were executed to justify the expenditure.

The panel faced challenges during its investigation, including late and incomplete submission of financial records by Local Government Councils and deliberate obstruction by council personnel. Despite these hurdles, the panel’s findings highlighted systemic corruption and financial recklessness.

Governor Okpebholo, while receiving the report, vowed to ensure that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) prosecutes those indicted. He expressed his determination to recover the stolen funds and hold the culprits accountable.

“The administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki took Edo people for granted. They looted our treasury and channeled public funds for personal gains. This time, things are different. We will go after them and retrieve what they have stolen,” Okpebholo declared.

He also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support in fostering development in Edo State and emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in public office.

The panel’s findings have sparked calls for stricter oversight and accountability in Local Government finances, with many Edo residents hopeful that justice will be served.

Annie Idibia’s Health Crisis; as 2Baba Romance Sparks Turmoil

Fresh reports have revealed that Nollywood actress Annie Idibia is battling a severe leg injury that has resisted treatment, with doctors reportedly considering amputation as a last resort. The injury, which she has been nursing since last year, is said to have worsened due to alleged substance abuse, complicating the healing process.

Sources close to the family disclosed that plans are underway to fly Annie to India for advanced medical treatment in a bid to save her leg. The move comes as her condition continues to deteriorate, raising concerns about her long-term health.

Amid her health struggles, Annie is reportedly unaware of her husband, 2Baba’s (Innocent Idibia) ongoing romance with Natasha Osawaru. Her family has allegedly confiscated her phone to shield her from the emotional distress caused by the news. Despite her repeated requests to see her husband, 2Baba remains unreachable, further deepening the family’s turmoil.

A source close to the Idibia family shared, “The Idibias need prayers, as both husband and wife are battling their respective issues. Annie’s leg injury is worsening, and doctors are suggesting amputation, but there’s still hope for a solution in India. She has been asking to see 2Baba, but her family is keeping her away from everything happening online.”

The situation has sparked widespread concern among fans, with many taking to social media to send prayers and well-wishes for Annie’s recovery. The ongoing drama surrounding 2Baba’s new relationship and Annie’s health crisis has left the public deeply invested in the family’s well-being.

As the story unfolds, fans are hoping for a positive resolution to Annie’s health challenges and a peaceful resolution to the family’s personal struggles. The Idibia family’s ordeal serves as a reminder of the complexities of fame, relationships, and the toll they can take on individuals and their loved ones.

Ayra Starr Faces Backlash for Dancing to Naira Marley’s Controversial Track

Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has found herself at the center of controversy after sharing a video of herself dancing to Naira Marley’s latest song, *‘Pxy Drip (I’m Back)’*. The 22-year-old artist, whose real name is Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, removed the video from her Snapchat and TikTok accounts following intense backlash from fans and critics.

The backlash stems from the ongoing controversy surrounding Naira Marley, who has faced significant criticism in the music industry following the tragic death of his former signee, Mohbad (Ilerioluwa Aloba). Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, sparking widespread outrage after old videos surfaced showing him being bullied by Sam Larry, an associate of Naira Marley.

Although Naira Marley was initially accused of involvement in Mohbad’s death, he was later cleared of any wrongdoing after spending time in police custody. Despite this, his reputation remains tarnished, and many Nigerians view his music and actions with skepticism.

Ayra Starr’s video, which featured her dancing to Naira Marley’s new track, quickly went viral but was met with fierce criticism. Many accused the Mavin Records star of being insensitive, given the unresolved tensions surrounding Mohbad’s death and Naira Marley’s controversial history.

In response to the public outcry, Ayra Starr deleted the video from her social media platforms. However, the clip had already been widely shared, and the singer continues to face negative reactions from fans and critics alike.

This incident highlights the delicate balance celebrities must maintain when engaging with controversial figures or topics, especially in the age of social media where public opinion can shift rapidly. For Ayra Starr, the backlash serves as a reminder of the heightened sensitivity surrounding Mohbad’s legacy and the ongoing scrutiny of Naira Marley’s actions.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how Ayra Starr will address the controversy and whether this incident will impact her relationship with fans and her standing in the Nigerian music industry.

House of Reps Clarifies Plans for 31 New States as Proposals are Under Review

The House of Representatives has moved to clarify recent reports suggesting plans to create 31 new states, stating that such claims are misleading and do not reflect the official position of the House.

In a statement issued by the House Spokesman on Thursday, the lawmakers explained that the House had merely received 31 proposals from private individuals and groups advocating for the creation of new states. These proposals, however, do not imply endorsement or active consideration by the House.

During Thursday’s plenary session, the Deputy Speaker, who also chairs the House Committee on Constitution Review (HCCR), emphasized that any proposal for state creation must meet stringent constitutional requirements. He referenced Section 8(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which mandates that such proposals must be supported by at least two-thirds of lawmakers representing the affected areas in the Senate, House of Representatives, State House of Assembly, and Local Government Councils before being considered by the National Assembly.

The Deputy Speaker also outlined the process for creating new Local Government Councils, citing Section 8(3) of the Constitution. He explained that the results of a referendum conducted by State Houses of Assembly must be submitted to the National Assembly for further consideration before any new council can be recognized.

To ensure proper legislative procedure, the House has directed all individuals or groups interested in state creation to formally submit their proposals. The deadline for submission is March 5, 2025, and proposals must be delivered in hard copies to the Secretariat of the Constitution Review Committee at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

The House reassured Nigerians that any constitutional amendments, including state creation, will undergo a transparent and thorough review process. This process will include public hearings, consultations with stakeholders, and multiple stages of legislative approval to ensure inclusivity and fairness.

The clarification comes amid growing public interest in the issue, with the House reiterating its commitment to upholding constitutional processes and ensuring that any changes reflect the will and needs of the people.

Government Vows Swift Justice as Azuka’s Killers Apprehended

The Anambra State Government has expressed profound grief over the tragic death of Hon. Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly representing Onitsha North State Constituency I. In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, the government extended its heartfelt condolences to the Speaker and members of the State House of Assembly, as well as Azuka’s family and constituents.

Mefor also revealed that security agencies have successfully arrested the criminals responsible for the lawmaker’s murder. He praised the swift and decisive action of the security operatives, stating, “Government commends the swift and decisive action of the security agencies, who worked tirelessly to fish out the criminals responsible for this heinous act.”

He further highlighted the effectiveness of the state’s new security initiative, *Operation Udo Ga-Achi*, which has recorded significant successes since its launch on January 18, 2025. “Their efforts are a testament to the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens,” Mefor added.

The government reiterated its resolve to ensure that justice is served swiftly. “Government firmly assures of its commitment to ensuring that justice is served speedily against the culprits and all those connected with the dastardly act,” the statement read.

Mefor also called on residents of Anambra to continue supporting the efforts of security agencies and the state government in creating a safer environment. “Government again calls on Ndi Anambra to continue to support the efforts of the security agencies and the government of Anambra State to make the State safe for all and crime-free,” he said.

The statement concluded with a message of hope and unity: “Together, we shall build a safer, more secure, and more prosperous Anambra State where everyone can live, work, invest, and enjoy.”

The arrest of the suspects marks a significant step in the fight against crime in Anambra, as the government continues to prioritize the safety and well-being of its citizens.

APC Shuts Door on Delta Governor

Senator Ned Nwoko, the lawmaker representing Delta North, has firmly stated that Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, is not welcome in the All Progressives Congress (APC). This declaration comes amid growing speculation that the governor is considering defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling APC.

Nwoko made his position clear on Wednesday during his official reception into the APC at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja. The event was attended by APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, and members of the National Working Committee (NWC). Addressing journalists after his induction, Nwoko criticized Oborevwori’s performance as governor, citing his failure to execute critical projects in Delta State.

“My first concern in leaving PDP is to make sure that there is enough time for me to get some things done through the Federal Government,” Nwoko said. He expressed frustration with the state of affairs in Delta, adding, “I am tired of being in Delta and almost like in opposition. I tell them what to do, they don’t want to do it. I keep telling them.”

When asked if he would support Oborevwori’s potential defection to the APC, Nwoko was unequivocal in his rejection. “No. I will not welcome him. How? Why? He has not delivered to my expectations. We have projects that I told him need to be done for the people, which he refused to do,” he stated.

During the reception, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje expressed confidence in Nwoko’s ability to galvanize grassroots support for the party in Delta State. Ganduje urged the senator to collaborate with other stakeholders to strengthen the APC’s presence and influence in the state ahead of future elections.

“We welcome you to the APC and look forward to working with you to deliver Delta State,” Ganduje said.

Nwoko’s defection to the APC and his outright rejection of Oborevwori’s rumored move highlight the deepening political tensions in Delta State. As the APC seeks to expand its foothold in the region, Nwoko’s induction signals a strategic effort to bolster the party’s prospects, while his criticism of the governor underscores the challenges facing the PDP in maintaining its dominance.

PDP Crisis Deepens: Anyanwu Urges Supreme Court to Fast-Track National Secretary Case

The legal tussle over the national secretary position of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a new turn as Samuel Anyanwu, a close ally of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has called on the Supreme Court to expedite the hearing of the case.

In a letter dated January 29 and addressed to the Supreme Court in Abuja, Anyanwu, who is currently embroiled in the dispute over the PDP secretary position, emphasized the urgency of resolving the matter. He highlighted the critical importance of the role to the party, noting that the prolonged crisis surrounding the position has created significant instability within the PDP.

Anyanwu’s appeal for an accelerated hearing underscores the growing tension within the party as it grapples with internal divisions and leadership challenges. The national secretary position, a key role in the party’s administration, has been a focal point of contention, further complicating the PDP’s efforts to present a united front ahead of future elections.

The letter to the Supreme Court reflects the high stakes involved in the legal battle, with Anyanwu and his supporters seeking a swift resolution to restore stability and clarity to the party’s leadership structure. As the PDP navigates this crisis, the outcome of the case could have far-reaching implications for the party’s cohesion and political strategy moving forward.

From Captivity to Courage: Bethel Baptist Student Recounts Harrowing Ordeal with Bandits

Salama Shaibu, one of the students of Bethel Baptist High School who was abducted by bandits in 2021, has opened up about the traumatic experience she endured during her time in captivity. In a recent interview with Brekete Family, a human rights radio program, Shaibu shared chilling details of the psychological and emotional toll the ordeal took on her and her fellow students.

She recounted how, after being kidnapped and taken into the bush, the bandits fed the students before making a horrifying demand. “After eating, they told us to select ten people among ourselves whom they would kill, so we would know they were serious and our ransom would get paid,” Shaibu revealed.

Faced with this unimaginable situation, Shaibu admitted that she initially considered volunteering herself to be killed. “I was like the seniors should go since they have enjoyed. At a point, I wanted to be a hero and volunteer myself,” she said. However, a classmate intervened, convincing her not to give in to despair. “One of my classmates told me that I and her won’t die here and that the seniors should die before us,” Shaibu added.

Reflecting on the experience, she described the entire ordeal as surreal. “Everything was like a dream until we spent a day there,” she said, highlighting the shock and disbelief that gripped her during the early hours of captivity.

Shaibu’s account sheds light on the horrific realities faced by victims of banditry in Nigeria, particularly schoolchildren who have become frequent targets of such attacks. Her story is a testament to the resilience and courage of young Nigerians who endure unimaginable trauma while hoping for rescue and justice.

The abduction of the Bethel Baptist High School students in 2021 sparked national outrage and renewed calls for improved security measures to protect schools and vulnerable communities. Shaibu’s bravery in sharing her story serves as a powerful reminder of the urgent need to address the growing insecurity in the country and ensure the safety of all citizens, especially children.

2027: Primate Ayodele Warns Against Tinubu’s Re-election Bid

Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has issued a stark warning to Nigeria’s opposition parties, urging them to unite if they hope to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. Speaking in a recent statement reported by the Daily Post, Primate Ayodele emphasized that without a strong coalition, the opposition stands little chance of unseating the incumbent president.

He specifically called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to join forces and present a single, formidable candidate. “If PDP, Labour, and NNPP don’t unite to form a coalition and propose one rugged and solid candidate for the 2027 presidential election, they won’t be able to unseat President Tinubu,” he declared.

Primate Ayodele also cautioned the PDP against fielding former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as their candidate, warning that such a decision could spell disaster for the party. “If the PDP decides to field Atiku, it will be a disaster; they will lose the election. If the PDP wants to stand alone, they will run into debt, and as it stands, there is no sitting governor in the PDP with the capacity to become president; they are not strong enough,” he stated.

In addition to his advice for the opposition, Primate Ayodele highlighted potential challenges for President Tinubu’s re-election bid. He suggested that northern political leaders might conspire to undermine his second-term ambitions. “The northerners will continue to gang up against Tinubu. They will make it difficult for him in 2027 and will do anything to form a political coup to unseat him,” he remarked.

These statements shed light on the intricate and highly competitive political landscape as Nigeria approaches the 2027 elections. Primate Ayodele’s insights underscore the importance of strategic alliances, candidate selection, and regional dynamics in shaping the outcome of the upcoming presidential race. For the opposition, unity appears to be the only viable path to victory, while President Tinubu’s camp must navigate internal and external challenges to secure a second term.
