If Not for Reuben..." – A Lesson for Our Families Today
Today's sermon was a deep reminder of God's unseen hands in our family battles. The preacher spoke on the topic "If Not for Reuben," drawing from the story of Joseph and his brothers. Joseph's own blood wanted him dead out of jealousy and bitterness, but God used Reuben as a voice of reason to delay their evil plan—and eventually used a pit as a place of preservation.
Many of us today are fighting our own siblings, holding onto years of offense, envy, inheritance battles, or rivalry. But let this story remind us: We are still blood. You may not agree with everything your brother or sister does—but if not for Reuben, Joseph would have died. And who knows? Maybe the very one you're fighting is the one God has chosen to preserve your family tomorrow.
That delay, that “well,” that “pit”—it may feel like punishment, but it's often protection. Stop fighting destiny. Forgive. Speak up like Reuben. Choose peace like Joseph. Be the one that stops the cycle.
Family is not perfect, but it’s God's design. And sometimes, all it takes is one Reuben to save a whole generation.
