A short story

The Final Stand

Chapter 1: A Shadow in the Dark

The city of Solace was anything but its name. Once a beacon of peace and prosperity, it had become a war-torn wasteland ruled by chaos. Rebel forces, under the tyrannical leadership of a man known only as “The Vulture,” had seized control, leaving the innocent to suffer. Children were snatched from their homes, taken to unknown locations, and never seen again. The authorities were powerless, unable to confront the growing threat.

But in the shadows, a lone figure moved with purpose—a vigilante known only as "The Revenant." He was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. Rumors spread about his origin; some said he was a former soldier who had lost his family to the rebels, others claimed he was an apparition, a ghost of vengeance.

No one knew his real name, nor did they need to. The Revenant’s presence was enough to inspire hope in the hearts of the oppressed and fear in those who preyed upon them.

The Revenant had one mission: to free the city from the grip of The Vulture and his men. But this time, the stakes were higher. The Vulture had captured a group of children, intending to use them as leverage in his latest power play. The Revenant knew that if he didn’t act quickly, these innocent lives would be lost forever.
Chapter 2: The Hunt Begins

The Revenant’s informant, a former rebel who had turned against The Vulture, provided him with crucial information. The children were being held in an old factory on the outskirts of the city, heavily guarded by The Vulture's most loyal men. Time was running out, and The Revenant knew this mission could be his last.

As he prepared for the assault, memories of his past flooded his mind—images of his wife and daughter, lost in a rebel attack, and the burning desire for justice that had driven him to take on this role. He had become The Revenant to protect those who couldn’t protect themselves, but at what cost? He pushed the thoughts aside, focusing on the task at hand. There was no room for doubt.

Under the cover of night, The Revenant made his way to the factory. The streets were silent, save for the distant echoes of gunfire and the occasional shout from patrolling guards. The city was a battlefield, but tonight, it would be the stage for something far more personal.

He reached the factory and surveyed the scene. Guards were stationed at every entrance, armed and ready. The Revenant knew he had to act quickly and quietly. He moved like a wraith, slipping past the guards, incapacitating them with precision strikes, and leaving no trace of his presence.

Inside the factory, the air was thick with tension. The Revenant could hear the faint cries of the children from a nearby room, and his resolve hardened. He approached the door, but before he could act, a voice echoed through the halls.

“Welcome, Revenant. I’ve been expecting you.”

Chapter 3: The Vulture’s Trap

The Vulture’s voice was cold, calculated. The Revenant knew he had walked into a trap, but there was no turning back now. He kicked the door open, ready for whatever awaited him.

Inside, The Vulture stood at the center of the room, surrounded by armed guards. The children were huddled in a corner, their eyes wide with fear. The Vulture was a tall, gaunt man, with sharp features and a predatory gaze. He smiled, a twisted grin that sent a chill down The Revenant’s spine.

“You’ve been a thorn in my side for far too long,” The Vulture hissed. “But tonight, it ends.”

The Revenant didn’t respond. Words were meaningless now. He lunged forward, taking down the first two guards with a flurry of blows. The room erupted into chaos as the remaining guards opened fire, but The Revenant was a force of nature. He moved with speed and precision, dodging bullets and striking down his enemies with ruthless efficiency.

But The Vulture was no ordinary foe. He was cunning, and he had anticipated The Revenant’s every move. As the last guard fell, The Vulture pressed a button on a remote control, and the floor beneath The Revenant gave way.

He fell into a dark pit, landing hard on the cold, unforgiving ground. Above him, The Vulture peered down, his smile widening.

“Did you really think it would be that easy?” The Vulture mocked. “You’ve walked right into my trap. There’s no escape now, Revenant.”

Chapter 4: The Final Battle

The Revenant struggled to his feet, his body battered and bruised. The pit was deep, with walls too high to climb. But giving up was not an option. He scanned his surroundings, searching for a way out.

Then he saw it—a small ventilation shaft near the top of the pit. It was a long shot, but it was his only chance. He began to climb, using the cracks in the walls to find his footing. Every movement sent waves of pain through his body, but he pushed through it. He couldn’t afford to fail—not now.

As he reached the shaft, The Vulture’s voice echoed through the pit once more. “You’re persistent, I’ll give you that. But you’re only delaying the inevitable. You can’t save them, Revenant. Not this time.”

The Revenant ignored the taunts and pulled himself into the shaft. It was a tight fit, but he forced his way through, inch by inch. The sound of The Vulture’s voice grew fainter as he crawled, replaced by the distant cries of the children.

He emerged from the shaft in a different part of the factory, weak but determined. The Vulture was wrong. He *would* save those children, even if it cost him his life.

He moved through the factory, avoiding detection as best he could. His body ached, his vision blurred, but he pressed on. He couldn’t let them down—not now.

Finally, he reached the room where the children were being held. The Vulture was there, waiting for him.

“So, you made it out of the pit. Impressive,” The Vulture said, his tone mocking. “But it doesn’t matter. You’re too late.”

The Revenant didn’t waste any time. He charged at The Vulture, driven by pure adrenaline. The two men clashed in a brutal, desperate fight. The Vulture was strong, but The Revenant fought with the strength of a man who had nothing left to lose.

Blow after blow, they battled, until finally, The Revenant managed to disarm The Vulture, sending his weapon skittering across the floor. The Vulture stumbled back, his confidence wavering.

“You think you’ve won?” The Vulture sneered, blood dripping from his lip. “You’ve sealed your fate, Revenant. There’s no way out of this for either of us.”

The Revenant didn’t respond. He knew The Vulture was right. The factory was rigged to explode, and there was no time to disarm the bombs. But he had made his choice. He would save the children, no matter the cost.

He turned to the children, who were watching the fight in terrified silence. “Go,” he said, his voice rough but commanding. “Run. Get out of here.”

The children hesitated for a moment, then bolted for the door. The Revenant watched them go, a sense of relief washing over him. They were safe—that was all that mattered.

Chapter 5: The Last Sacrifice

As the children fled, The Vulture lunged at The Revenant in a final, desperate attack. But The Revenant was ready. He grabbed The Vulture and, with a final burst of strength, threw him across the room. The Vulture crashed into a pile of debris, his body broken.

The Revenant knew there was no time to waste. He ran after the children, guiding them through the factory and out into the night. The building rumbled behind them, the bombs ticking down to their inevitable detonation.

Outside, the children were met by a group of resistance fighters who had been waiting for The Revenant’s signal. The fighters quickly took the children to safety, away from the impending explosion.

But The Revenant didn’t follow. He turned back to the factory, knowing that The Vulture was still inside, and that he couldn’t let the man escape.

With a heavy heart, The Revenant re-entered the building. The flames were spreading fast, the heat unbearable. He found The Vulture still alive, though barely. The man looked up at The Revenant, his eyes filled with hatred and fear.

“You’re a fool,” The Vulture spat. “We’re both going to die here.”

The Revenant didn’t respond. He simply stood there, watching as the flames closed in. He had done what he came to do. The children were safe, and The Vulture would never harm anyone again.

As the fire consumed the factory, The Revenant felt a strange sense of peace. He had given everything for this city, for these people. And though his life would end here, he knew that his sacrifice had made a difference.

The factory exploded in a brilliant flash of light, the sound echoing across the city. The people of Solace watched in awe as the symbol of their oppression was reduced to rubble.

The Revenant was gone, but his legacy would live on. He had fought for the voiceless, for the innocent, and in his final act, he had given them the hope they so desperately needed.

FOREVER LOVE

My forever love who sees me through night
Holding in the cold, and making for warmth
She knows my weakness and gives strength
When looming through fog she brings bright

My happy day waking to her beautiful smiles
Best of my decision with you I spend my life
Together on vacations and mountains hike
My better half seeing the deepest of heart

Going into prime time and array to display
Investments concrete, generation to stay
Making a way and breaking grounds new
Together in a bond and blessings divine

Forever Love, companion in my olden day
Sacrifices worth, comfort in a place to lay

MISSISSIPPI

Onboarding at the river bank journey begin
Flowing from the hinterland passing caves
The longest of rivers I have ever travelled
Meeting at confluence jumping down hill

Dreams of reaching man greener pasture
When the years are filled with happiness
Barns and kitchens up making all rejoice
Harvest of abundance reaping from sow

River Mississippi, it's been days on a long
Let my earnings flowing in and nonstop
Fill my cup to the brim and pour overflow
Unending stream to source a community

Knowledge is infinite as man's divine gift
The longest river and can't touch its end

SILENCE

Words brew deep in human volcano to erupt
Like whirlwind in the desert it wants to cut
Pains deep in heart and tears shows blood
In this journey of life, many are walking dead

Living in bo***ge seeking time for freedom
Disparage, even the house as shelter is razed
Sound of gun echoes in distance arrive near
Marching through my farms how do I reap

Silence, a medicine that would never heal
For I would scream till the top of my voice
For the world to hear what bandits deed
Even if I perish, my life is worth the live

Many are broken but choose to be silent
Causing a cancer, letting words implode

ROSE ON FLAME

Lost in the wilderness searching a path
Emotion wild torn apart hung on thong
Bleeding in deep night, moon as a light
Silence of time and memory on relapse

Saving life sinking down swell thought
Engraving a fight of man's self destruct
Witness uncalled in mind court to judge
Rewind spectrum and feelings aroused

Rose on flame keep burning, no ashes
Fire service and still can't quench heat
Until end of time and minute obliterate
The mighty fall in its sweetness of goil

Raining all night, I'm hidden in a rose
Petals so fine my heart burn to flame

RETHINK

It's red when I take my love elsewhere
Losing breath, drowning a loose sphere
Hanging on cliff wind through my vein
Find me a keeper, shooting shots vane

Time stops ticking, memories are dead
What am I thinking, if only you can hear
Pressures and the fear tripping in dots
Work makes it clear, sipping deep clots

Nightmare scary, but I wake up strong
When life gets heavy, make new song
Green thought end su***de it's all clean
Riding a new tide and surfing the seas

Allegory, it shines the winters are seen
Finding a love to spring back my scene
