A governor who won two elections on the opposition platform crossed the floor and handed an entire party machine — 226 wards, 21 LGAs, his full cabinet — to the ruling APC.

The Vice President came to Yola and declared him the party's paramount leader. Adamawa is now Nigeria's number one APC state by membership.

The main opposition has been legally paralysed by INEC, at least for now. And over twelve men are quietly — and not so quietly — fighting for the right to succeed him.
