You'll Lose 2023 Election Because Of People Around You - Wike Warns Atiku |

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has asked former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, who is also the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to be mindful of those around him ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Speaking in Port Harcourt during the inauguration of the Rivers State House of Assembly Quarters by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Friday, Wike said those around Atiku might cost him the election.

Wike said some persons were busy going after him when the target ought to be how to win the 2023 general elections for the PDP, Daily Trust reports.

He said, “All these rent seekers around him (Atiku) are not doing him any favour. Rather they are trying to make him not to win election. But if that is what they wish, I wish them good luck.”

“You see that I am not talking. I am doing my work, so leave me to do my work. Those concocting ideas every day, social media cannot make you win election. Election is about the people and by the people. Those in Abuja with you (Atiku), tell them to go home and campaign for you to win election. Leave Wike alone, enough is enough.

“People have called me throughout this morning and said all kinds of things that I went to court against Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. I want to say categorically, if I have a reason of going to court, I will go to court, but I didn’t go to court.

“Yesterday too, they said I removed all PDP flags at Rivers State Government House. But I just have to say these things for Nigerians to know that I have kept quiet, and been busy delivering dividends of democracy for my party to win election in Rivers State.

“But I want to tell the candidate, it is the candidate’s group that are doing all these things. Let the world hear, they are the ones plotting all these things, thinking that they will spoil my name, they cannot.

“I didn’t go to court; I have no reason to go to court. But those of you who are plotting and saying that I went to court, saying Wike went to court, I say shame on you. Shame will be on all of you.

“I have told the candidate, you will win or lose this election because of people around you. Anybody who knows me know too well that if I was going to court, I would have gone to court within two weeks after the primary because it is a pre-election matter and after two weeks, you can’t go to court.

“The legal adviser of the party called me and said he knows that there is mischief going on. But that he knows me very well, if I’m going to court, it is not those kinds of lawyers that I would have used; I don’t even know the lawyers.”

Wike said during the 2019 general elections, the people claiming to love the PDP in the South-South sabotaged the party’s chances in the region.

He said instead of them, particularly the governors, to strategise on how to win the 2023 election, they were wasting their time to plot against him.

He said, “When I see people talking about PDP today, I say to myself what is going on in this world. In the South-South, they all betrayed us. President Muhammadu Buhari wouldn’t have won the 2019 election because he wouldn’t have had the spread.

“But all the States in the South-South made Buhari to have 25 percent. It was only Rivers State that did not give Buhari 25 percent, I am challenging anybody on it. Today, I see people talk about PDP. When we were supposed to have won election in PDP under Alhaji Atiku. Rivers State gave the highest votes, Rivers gave the highest support in terms of logistics too. Let anybody come and contradict me.

“I told Atiku the other day, I said to him, all these governors that you think they are working with you, what happened in 2019? Nobody wants to say the truth. I have said it, everybody, go to your State and deliver. It is ‘Operation deliver your State’. It is not to just talk. It is not to stay in Abuja. I don’t stay in Abuja, I don’t sleep there.”

The spokesperson of Atiku-Okowa Campaign Council,Senator Dino Melaye, has declared that it is impossible to promote the All Progressives Congress, APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu without looking stupid.

Dino said on Friday while featuring on Channels TV programme, Politics Today.

He said the failure of the APC government has made it difficult for candidates of the party to gain acceptance in the country.

According to the former federal lawmaker,Tinubu and the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi are no match in any manner with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

He said, “This government marketed Atiku by their colossal failure. Today, the most difficult candidate to sell is APC candidate whether at House of Representatives, senator or governorship level.

“That is why you cannot defend, promote or campaign for Bola Ahmed Tinubu without looking stupid. This is what happened to my brother and friend, Festus Keyamo, he started talking off point. He started saying things that do not make sense.”

Meanwhile,Melaye has also refuted the claims that Atiku and Wike are at loggerheads.

Renowned researcher and former Provost of the College of Health Sciences of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Prof. Femi Soyinka has died.

According to a statement by his family, Prof. Soyinka died in the early hours of Tuesday at his home in Kukumada Village, Ibadan, Oyo State.

He was 85.

Prof. Soyinka was the younger brother of Nobel laureate and professor of comparative literature, Wole Soyinka.

Igbo Will Wait For Another 16 Years If Fail To Produce Next VP - Chimaroke Nnamani |

Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani, the former Governor of Enugu State and current Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has spoken on the position of the Igbo people in the country's political sector.

During the interview, Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani was asked to explain the place of the Igbos in the political zone, especially as it concerns the forthcoming 2023 Presidential election, and since the All Progressives Congress and the People's Democratic Party have picked a Southern Presidential candidate and a Northern Presidential candidate respectively.

The former Governor of Enugu State said that the Igbos should produce the next Vice Presidential candidate. According to him, the Hausas and Yorubas have been occupying the major political positions, while the Igbos have essentially had no role in the top positions since 1999.

Nnamani said that it is the turn of the Igbos to produce a Vice President for the country, since the two major political parties have picked their Presidential candidates. He stressed that if the Igbos fail to produce a Vice Presidential candidate for Nigeria, they will have to wait for another 16 years.

According to him, if they lose the opportunity to provide the next Vice President of Nigeria, they will not only wait for another 16 years, it will make it a total of 40 years of their inability to clinch any reputable position in the top political structures of the country, since 1999.

Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani said that if it happens, it will be seen as injustice, adding that the Igbos have maintained fidelity with the PDP.

Nigerians Should Keep Believing In Political Leaders - Gbajabiamila |

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has felicitated Nigerian Muslims on the occasion of the 2022 Eid-el-Fitr, urging them to keep believing in the leadership of their country.

Gbajabiamila, in his Sallah message issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Lanre Lasisi, said the period, coming after fasting in the Holy Month of Ramadan, should be used for sober reflection.

The Speaker noted that “at a time like this when Nigeria is facing unprecedented challenges,” it was necessary for citizens to look inward and re-dedicate themselves to God through prayers and sincere acts of worship.

“Speaker Gbajabiamila enjoined Nigerians to continue keeping faith with the leadership of the country as well as giving their own quota to the development of the country,” the statement partly read.

Why Atiku Should Be Arrested And Face Corruption Charges In US - Afegbua Reveals |

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Kassim Afegbua, has called on the United States, US, government to immediately invite the party’s presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar, for questioning over his fraudulent activities.

In a statement signed by the PDP chieftain, he said “The entire report of the US Congress copiously indicted Abubakar on issues concerning money laundering. It will make judicious sense if the United States Government is able to treat this pending matter once and for all by way of extraditing the former Vice President to answer those lingering queries on financial impropriety.

“The United States Congress report on the investigation is too damning to be ignored. If we truly want to sustain the ethics of transparent leadership and positive governance. I am, therefore, calling on the US Government to commence the process of inviting Atiku to the United States to face those charges without further delay. I am aware of the threats to my life over my strong position against the aspiration of Abubakar and other northern aspirants who are running against the run of play.

“I am, therefore, using this opportunity to plead that the United States Government takes expedite action on this matter in the interest of the rule of law, justice and transparency.

“The earlier Abubakar is made to face the full wrath of the law, the better for our anti-corruption crusade and the best for our fledgling democracy".

Incoming Alaafin Will Inherit Late Oba Adeyemi’s Wives – Archbishop Ladigbolu |

The Archbishop Emeritus of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Most Reverend Ayo Ladigbolu, who is from the Agunloye Ruling House of Oyo Kingdom, has said that the new Alaafin of Oyo Kingdom will inherit the wives of the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.

In an interview with PUNCH, Lagbigbolu said he could not answer whether he was interested in becoming the new Alaafin or if any of his children were interested.

He said, “I have said this for the umpteenth time that my culture is me and that is what made me available to the church; my upbringing in the palace during the reign of Oba Siyanbola Onikepe Ladigbolu and Oba Bello Gbadegsin Ladigbolu II, and of course, my closeness to Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who just passed away.

Speaking on the late oba’s wives, he said, “The new king will inherit them and that is the tradition, but you know things are changing now. Once a woman is married to the Alaafin they are married forever to the Alaafin You know the circumstances of life are changing and we have to adjust to the changing trends.
