Ex-Army Officer Arrested With ₦7.5 Million Worth Of Indian H**p In Kaduna

Ex-army officer, one other arrested with N7.5m worth of Indian h**p as troops bust drug syndicate in Kaduna.

Troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) on Tuesday, September 14, bust a drug syndicate and recovered 248 blocks of substance suspected to be cannabis estimated to be about 7.5 million naira in Kaduna.

The task force's media officer, Major Ishaku Takwa, said the substance was concealed in a Toyota Camry car with registration number Lagos, KJA 150 EG.

"The suspects, ex-Corporal Essien Friday, a 60 year old retired Army personnel and Ibrahim Ali,50, were arrested by the troops during stop and search operation along road Manchok – Jos in Kaura LGA of Kaduna state," Takwa stated.

The suspects claimed that they were contracted to convey the illicit substance to Yola, Adamawa State from Ondo State.

Other items recovered from the suspects include 18 wraps of Indian h**p ready for smoking, 2 smartphones, 3 travelling bags, one lighter and 2 wallets containing Five Hundred and Seventy Naira (N570) only.

The suspects and items recovered have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Plateau State Command for further investigation.

The Commander OPSH, Major General Ibrahim Ali has commended the troops for their vigilance doggedness towards preventing criminals from carrying out their heinous acts. He reiterated the determination of his command to flush out criminal elements on the Plateau and environs.

He said OPSH will continue to collaborate with law abiding citizens to ensure crime free society and enjoin members of the public to continue to support security agencies with credible information on criminal activities.

Italian Man Who Killed His Nigerian Wife Has Been Arrested

A 61-year-old Italian man, Pierangelo Pellizzari, who murdered his Nigerian wife, Amenze Rita, has been arrested by the Carabinieri 30 hours after being on the run.

31-year-old Amenze was killed in front of her colleagues in the parking lot of Mf Mushroom, a company where she worked on Friday morning, September 10, in Noventa Vicentina.

The suspect was arrested on Saturday afternoon, September 11, after over 30 hours on the run.

The man was tracked down in a house near his home in Villaga, hidden in a chicken coop, still with the gun in his pocket.

The carabinieri managed to surround and capture him. He didn't resist arrest.

“We are taking him to the barracks”, confirms Nicola Bianchi, provincial commander of Vicenza.

According to a statement from the public prosecutor's office, Amenze was hit by four bullets, one of which shattered her face.

The victim tried to take cover with her arms, which were also grazed by the bullets.

As Amenze's co**se slid to the ground between two cars, Pellizzari fired a shot in the air to secure his escape.

Witnesses said that the suspect then calmly slipped the gun into his jacket, got into his SUV and drove away.

EFCC Docks Man in Maiduguri for Converting Land Document

The Maiduguri Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 arraigned one David Osigbe Irumekhai before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri on one count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust.

The defendant allegedly used the original title documents of a property kept in his custody for safe keeping to secure a loan of N2, 300, 000.00 (Two Million, Three Hundred Thousand Naira).

The count read: “That you David Osigbe Irumekhai sometime in February, 2021 in Maiduguri, Borno State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court being entrusted with original title document in respect of Plot No. 86 BOTP/99 Fika Close on Damboa Road, Comm/ Res Layout area of 1800sq.m by Tosin Joseph Todo for safe keeping converted the title document to your personal use in violation of the mode in which such trust is to be discharged and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 311 Penal Code Law Cap 102, Laws of Borno State 1994 and punishable under section 312 of the same Act.”

The defendant pleaded “not guilty” to the one count charge.

Upon his plea, prosecution counsel, Mukhtar Ali Ahmed asked the court for a trial date and to remand the defendant in the correctional facility pending the outcome of the case.

Justice Kumaliya adjourned the matter till September 22, 2021 for commencement of trial and ordered that the defendant be remanded in the Correctional Centre.
