WORLD BANK COMMENDS SPESSE ON CERTIFICATION EXAMS

The World Bank has commended the SPESSE Environmental Node for launching professional certification examinations, describing it as a key shift from capacity building to standards-based certification.

The commendation followed the World Bank’s Implementation Support Mission held between November and December 2025, during which the team visited the Environmental Assessment Department of the Federal Ministry of Environment.

Director of the Department, Mrs R. A. Odetoro, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to a credible and transparent certification system.

World Bank Task Team Leader, Mr Ishtiak Siddiqe, stressed that the value of SPESSE certifications lies in strong governance and verification, not the number of certificates issued.

SPESSE Project Coordinator, Mr Hussain Sh*ttu, said the certification process is fully digital, ensuring transparency, traceability, and accountability.

The World Bank also noted plans to deploy SPESSE-certified professionals across Ministries and Agencies handling World Bank-funded projects to improve compliance and project delivery.

President Tinubu Meets APC Governors Amid Rising Security Concerns

President Bola Tinubu on Monday held a closed-door meeting with six APC governors at the State House, Abuja. The session, which lasted less than an hour, ended without any public statement from the governors.

In attendance were the governors of Jigawa, Edo, Ekiti, Kogi, Sokoto and Kebbi.

The meeting comes as Nigeria faces renewed security challenges, including recent abductions and the release of schoolchildren and worshipers across the North-West and North-Central. States such as Kebbi, Sokoto and Kogi have recorded increased banditry and ransom kidnappings, pushing for deeper coordination between the federal and state governments on intelligence and rural security.

Oba Elders Demand EFCC Action Against Northbridge Energy Chairman

The Leaders and Elders’ Council of Oba in Idemili South LGA, Anambra State, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to immediately prosecute the Chairman of Northbridge Energy Limited, Engr. Augustine Chinedum Emelobe, over alleged tax evasion, fraud, and other financial offences.

Addressing journalists on Monday in Abuja, the council’s spokesman, Comrade Shadrach Oka, decried what he termed the EFCC’s prolonged silence despite months of investigation.

He revealed that the council’s legal team, Chuks Uguru & Co., had submitted petitions on December 10, 2024, and April 23, 2025, requesting updates on the matter but received no feedback.

Oka further alleged that Emelobe continues to parade himself as the Igwe of Oba while facing criminal proceedings, including a four-count charge before a Magistrate Court in Anambra State for alleged usurpation of the community’s traditional stool.

He also stressed that the Igwe throne must be reserved for individuals of unquestionable integrity, insisting that anyone with pending criminal allegations cannot legitimately vie for the revered position.

The council however urged the EFCC to act swiftly in the interest of justice, accountability, and the protection of Oba’s cultural values.

🇳🇬🇧🇯 BREAKING: Tinubu Hails Nigerian Military for Foiling Coup Attempt in Benin Republic!

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has applauded Nigeria’s Armed Forces for a rapid and forceful intervention that helped the Republic of Benin stop an early-morning coup attempt on Sunday.

According to official reports, the Beninese government issued two urgent calls for help after coup plotters, led by Colonel Pascal Tigri, seized the National TV station and a military camp. In response, President Tinubu ordered Nigerian Air Force fighter jets to secure Benin’s airspace, while surveillance aircraft and ground troops—operating strictly under Benin’s command—moved in to protect key institutions and push back the insurgents.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, revealed that the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, confirmed full ex*****on of all requests, with Nigerian forces already active on the ground in Benin.

The attempted takeover briefly shook the country’s constitutional order, but loyal forces—boosted by Nigeria’s quick support—regained control and restored democratic governance.

President Tinubu praised the military for defending democracy and upholding constitutional order, stressing that Nigeria’s actions were fully in line with the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance. He reaffirmed Nigeria’s unwavering solidarity with the government and people of Benin Republic.
