READINGS REFLECTION IN ORDINARY TIME WEEK 24 MONDAY YEAR 1

πŸ“FEAST: OUR LADY OF SORROWSπŸ“

15-SEP-2025 Readings

1ST READING: 1 Timothy 2:1-8

Beloved: First of all, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, godly and respectful in every way. This is good, and it is acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, the testimony to which was borne at the proper time. For this I was appointed a preacher and apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarrelling.

The Word of The Lord!.

Responsorial Psalm Psalm 28

R. Blest be the Lord, for he has heard the sound of my appeal.

Hear the voice of my pleading as I call to you for help, as I raise my hands toward your holy place.

R. Blest be the Lord, for he has heard the sound of my appeal.

The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts. I was helped; my heart rejoices, and I praise him with my song.

R. Blest be the Lord, for he has heard the sound of my appeal.

The Lord is the strength of his people, a saving refuge for his anointed. Save your people and bless your heritage. Shepherd them and carry them for ever.

R. Blest be the Lord, for he has heard the sound of my appeal.

All stand to sing the Gospel Acclamation to welcome the gospel, and remain standing to honour/hear the Master Christ(Himself).

ACCLAMATION: John 3:16

R. ALLELUIA.
God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should have eternal life.
R. ALLELUIA.

GOSPEL

Luke 7:1-10
At that time: After Jesus had ended all his sayings in the hearing of the people he entered Capernaum. Now a centurion had a slave who was dear to him, who was sick and at the point of death. When he heard of Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and heal his slave. And when they came to Jesus, they besought him earnestly, saying, "He is worthy to have you do this for him, for he loves our nation, and he built us our synagogue." And Jesus went with them. When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying to him, " Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; therefore I did not presume to come to you. But say the word, and let my servant be healed. For I am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me: and I say to one, 'Go, and he goes; and to another, 'Come, and he comes; and to my slave, 'Do this, and he does it." When Jesus heard this he marvelled at him, and turned and said to the multitude that followed him, "I tell you, not even in Israel have found such faith." And when those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the

slave well.

The Gospel of The Lord!.

Reflection

The centurion had a deep knowledge of the power of faith and the authority of God. From his own experience of giving commands and having them carried out, he knew that all Jesus had to do was speak words of healing and it would happen. At our baptism, we too receive the power and authority of faith to spread the good news of God's love and care for the poor, the sick and the destitute. We receive the power and authority to speak words of forgiveness, compassion and healing. We are given power and authority to learn to relate in peace and harmony with all God's people.

πŸ“Let us Pray

God our Father,
when Jesus, your Son, was raised up on the cross,
it was your will that Mary, his mother, should stand there
and suffer with him in her heart.
Grant that, in union with her,
the Church may share in the passion of Christ,
and so be brought to the glory of his resurrection.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

From the altar to the corridors of power, his story keeps inspiring Nigerians every day.

In a political space where many struggle to balance power with purpose, Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has been recognised by the Presidency as one of the top-performing APC governors across the nation. His name now stands tall among those chosen to showcase President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s transparent achievements.

A Catholic priest, clinical psychologist, and reform-driven governor, Fr. Alia has proven that politics can still be powered by integrity, discipline, and service above self. His leadership has brought a fresh wave of trust to governanceβ€”earning him the popular name β€œYes, Father” among the people of Benue and beyond.

This recognition isn’t just an awardβ€”it’s a testimony that honest governance still pays.

READINGS AND REFLECTION IN ORDINARY TIME WEEK 23 SATURDAY YEAR 1

13-SEP-2025 Readings

1ST READING: 1 Timothy 1:15-17

Beloved: The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. And I am the foremost of sinners; but I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience for an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life. To the King of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

The Word of The Lord!.

Responsorial Psalm Psalm 113

R. May the name of the Lord be blest for evermore.

Praise, O servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord! May the name of the Lord be blest both now and for evermore!

R. May the name of the Lord be blest for evermore.

From the rising of the sun to its setting, praised be the name of the Lord! High above all nations is the Lord, above the heavens his

glory.

R. May the name of the Lord be blest for evermore.

Who is like the Lord, our God, who lowers

himself to look down upon heaven and earth? From the dust he lifts up the lowly, from the ash

heap he raises the poor.

R. May the name of the Lord be blest for evermore.

All stand to sing the Gospel Acclamation to welcome the gospel, and remain standing to honour/hear the Master Christ(Himself).

ACCLAMATION: John 14:23

R. ALLELUIA.
If a man loves me, he will keep my

word, says the Lord; and my Father will love him, and we will come to him.
R. ALLELUIA.

The Gospel ( All stand! )

GOSPEL Luke 6:43-49

At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, "No good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit; for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thorns, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush. The good man out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil man out of his evil treasure produces evil; for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. "Why do you call me ' Lord, Lord, and not do what I tell you? Every one who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep, and laid the foundation upon rock; and when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house, and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But he who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation; against which the stream broke, and immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great."

The Gospel of The Lord!.

Reflection

Jesus calls us to examine our heart to find out what is stored there. Perhaps our heart stores up sorrow, anxiety and distress, prejudice, blame and irresponsibility. Whatever negative "treasure" we store in our heart will find a way out in physical pain, or in words and actions that may cause harm to others. Perhaps our heart is empty, with no compassion, kindness, humor, or sympathy stored up. Empty hearts display a tendency to remain isolated and indifferent to those in need. Or perhaps our hearts have stored up faith in God, forgiveness, humility, gratitude and joy. Whatever positive treasure we store in our heart will flow out of us and transform the world.

READINGS AND REFLECTION IN ORDINARY TIME WEEK 23 FRIDAY YEAR 1

12-SEP-2025 Readings

1ST READING: 1 Timothy 1:1-2.12-14

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by command of God our Saviour and of Christ Jesus our hope, To Timothy, my true child in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. I thank him who has given me strength for this, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful by appointing me to his service, though I formerly blasphemed and persecuted and insulted him; but I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

The Word of The Lord!.

Responsorial Psalm Psalm 16

R. It is you, O Lord, who are my portion.

Preserve me, 0 God, for in you I take refuge. say to the Lord: 'You are my Lord! O Lord, it is your who are my portion and cup; you yourself who secure my lot.

R. It is you, O Lord, who are my portion.

I will bless the Lord who gives me counsel,

who even at night directs my heart. I keep the Lord before me always; since with him at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

R. It is you, O Lord, who are my portion.

You will show me the path of life, the fullness of

joy in your presence, at your right hand, bliss for

ever.

R. It is you, O Lord, who are my portion.

All stand to sing the Gospel Acclamation to welcome the gospel, and remain standing to honour/hear the Master Christ(Himself).

ACCLAMATION: John 17:17

R. ALLELUIA.
Your word, O Lord is truth; sanctify

us in the truth.
R. ALLELUIA.

The Gospel ( All stand! )

GOSPEL Luke 6:39-42

At that time: Jesus told his disciples a parable: "Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit? A disciple is not above his teacher, but every one when he is fully taught will be like his teacher. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye, when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own

eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your

own eye, and then you will see clearly to take

out the speck that is in your brother's eye.

The Gospel of The Lord!.

Reflection

At a time when everyone is in a mad rush, everyone wants to be at the tup, everyone was to lead and control, Jesus tells us in today's GOSPEL to "be careful". If you want to lead others and be in control, first lead yourself. If you cannot lead and control yourself, then you cannot lead and control others. We often point fingers at others for the very same offenses we are guilty of. In our quest to overrule others, we blame everyone except ourselves for anything and everything. Jesus tells us emphatically: "Remove the log in your own eyes," so we can see clearly. He calls us to be concerned about our own sanctification and not preoccupy ourselves with judging others while unmindful of our own faults. Set a high standard for oneself, but be gentle with others.

READINGS AND REFLECTION IN ORDINARY TIME WEEK 23 THURSDAY YEAR 1

11-SEP-2025 Readings

1ST READING: Colossians 3:12-17

Brethren: Put on, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, lowliness, meekness, and patience, forbearing one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teach and admonish one another in all wisdom, and sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

The Word of The Lord!.

Responsorial Psalm Psalm 150

R. Let everything that breathes praise the Lord!

Praise God in his holy place; praise him in his mighty firmament. Praise him for his powerful deeds; praise him for his boundless grandeur.

R. Let everything that breathes praise the Lord!

O praise him with sound of trumpet; praise him with lute and harp. Praise him with timbrel and dance; praise him with strings and pipes.

R. Let everything that breathes praise the Lord!

O praise him with resounding cymbals; praise him with clashing of cymbals. Let everything that breathes praise to the Lord!

R. Let everything that breathes praise the Lord!

All stand to sing the Gospel Acclamation to welcome the gospel, and remain standing to honour/hear the Master Christ(Himself).

ACCLAMATION: 1 John 4:12

R. ALLELUIA.
If we love one another, God abides in us, and his love is perfected in us.
R. ALLELUIA.

The Gospel ( All stand! )

GOSPEL Luke 6:27-38

At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, "I say to you that hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. To him who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from him who takes away your coat do not withhold even your shirt. Give to every one who begs from you; and of him who takes away your goods do not ask them again. And as you wish that men would do to you, do so to them. "If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive as much again. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for he is kind the ungrateful and the selfish. Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful. "Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For the measure you give will be the measure you get back."

The Gospel of The Lord!.

Reflection

In a world that advises us "the best form of defense is attack" and urges us to "get him before he gets you", Jesus teaches us to love even those who hate us. This is one of the most difficult tenets of the Christian life. But Jesus isn't joking. Love everyone: enemies, haters, and those who curse and abuse us. Loving and forgiving them does more good to us than to the offenders. Jesus offers us the true key to a happy and healthy society. If you want a happy and healthy society, go on loving even when it hurts and even when the other does not deserve it. This is how God loves us. We need to be the channels of God's love and compassion.
