There are reports of a group moving around Kogi Central under the guise of “empowerment”, allegedly collecting sensitive information such as PVC details, NIN and bank account numbers from unsuspecting members of the public.

It is also being alleged that the group may be working for a particular political party. This allegation should be treated seriously and independently verified before anyone submits personal information or participates in the exercise.

Let me be very clear: DO NOT SURRENDER YOUR PVC, NIN OR BANKING INFORMATION TO ANYONE SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY PROMISE YOU EMPOWERMENT.

Your PVC represents your civic power and democratic right. Do not allow anyone to use financial inducement to influence, manipulate or compromise that right.

Also, never disclose your ATM PIN, OTP, password, BVN, card details or other banking security credentials to anyone. These are extremely sensitive and must remain private.

If any empowerment programme is genuine, the organisers should be able to clearly state who they are, the legitimate purpose, how your personal data will be handled, and what safeguards are in place.

This is bigger than party politics. It is about protecting our people from possible exploitation, identity theft, financial fraud and electoral manipulation.

Please do not wait until someone becomes a victim before we act. Educate your parents, relatives, friends, neighbours and loved ones -- especially those who are not active on social media.

BE VIGILANT. PROTECT YOUR DATA. PROTECT YOUR PVC. PROTECT YOUR CIVIC RIGHTS.

Please share widely. One person informed today could save another person from becoming a victim tomorrow.

KOGI IDOJI COMPENSATION: GOVERNMENT MUST PURSUE JUSTICE, FAIRNESS AND RECONCILIATION

I was concerned to read a report by Nigeria Daily Info stating that the Kogi State Government has commenced arrangements to compensate traders and shop owners whose businesses were demolished at Idoji Ward, Okene.

If this report is accurate, it raises serious questions that deserve transparent answers. Power is transient, and no one remains in office forever. Every government must be guided by justice, fairness, and the rule of law.

It will be recalled that the issue surrounding this same property was recently raised on the floor of the National Assembly by the Senator representing Kogi Central, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. It is also a matter of public record that the matter is currently before the court.

Against this backdrop, the decision to compensate temporary occupants while the alleged permanent owner, Hon. AbdulMalik Teina, former Director-General of the Kogi State Bureau of Lands and Urban Development, is yet to receive similar consideration calls for careful scrutiny in the interest of justice and equity.

Furthermore, the same location was previously described as a criminal hideout and linked to ISWAP activities. If the government now acknowledges that legitimate traders and shop owners operated lawful businesses there and deserve compensation, it naturally raises questions about those earlier allegations. Lawful businesses cannot ordinarily thrive in a place genuinely established as a criminal hideout. These contradictions require openness and clarification, not speculation.

As a concerned citizen, stakeholder, and political analyst, I appeal for peaceful dialogue and genuine reconciliation. There is nothing wrong with any government acknowledging errors where misinformation or misunderstanding may have occurred. Doing so is a sign of responsible leadership and helps restore public confidence.

Our collective interest must be peace, justice, and unity. We must avoid actions or statements capable of creating unnecessary tension in our land. Kogi belongs to all of us, and only fairness, truth, and mutual respect can guarantee lasting peace and progress.

Today, as we commemorate Democracy Day, we are reminded that democracy is not merely about elections and political offices; it is fundamentally about the rule of law, justice, equity, accountability, and the protection of the rights of every citizen.

A true democracy is measured not by the strength of those in power but by how it treats the weak, the vulnerable, and the oppressed. Unfortunately, in many parts of our nation today, democracy is being undermined when those entrusted with authority use power to intimidate, suppress dissenting voices, deny justice, and silence legitimate aspirations of the people.

As Nigerians and Kogites, we must continue to demand a society where no citizen is oppressed because of political affiliation, social status, religion, ethnicity, or personal conviction. The essence of democracy is to guarantee freedom, fairness, and equal opportunities for all, not to create a system where a privileged few dominate while the majority suffer in silence.

On this Democracy Day, I call on leaders at all levels to uphold the sanctity of the rule of law, respect constitutional provisions, protect human rights, and ensure that justice is accessible to every citizen regardless of status. Power is temporary, but the consequences of injustice can linger for generations.

Unfortunately, today many Nigerians are questioning whether the dividends of democracy are still reaching the ordinary man and woman.

Across the nation, our people are confronted with severe economic hardship. The cost of living has become unbearable, food prices continue to rise daily, businesses are struggling to survive, unemployment remains alarming, insecurity persists in many communities, and millions of families are finding it increasingly difficult to meet their basic needs.

The reality facing Nigerians today demands reflection and action. Democracy gives citizens the constitutional power to determine the direction of their nation through the ballot box. Therefore, as we approach the 2027 general elections, I call on every Nigerian to remain vigilant, united, and politically conscious.

WHEN LOYALTY IS REWARDED WITH PERSECUTION: A REFLECTION ON THE ORDEAL OF ABDULMALIK TEINA

There comes a time in every political journey when silence becomes betrayal and speaking the truth becomes a duty. Today, Kogi State stands at such a moment.

The unfolding ordeal of Alhaji Abdulmalik Teina is not merely about one man; it is about the dangerous precedent being set in our political environment. It is about whether loyalty still has value, whether sacrifice still matters, and whether those who helped build a political empire should expect gratitude or persecution when interests no longer align.

Abdulmalik Teina was not an opposition figure. He was not a political enemy. He was a trusted insider, a committed stakeholder, and one of the many architects who laboured tirelessly to sustain the political structure that governs Kogi State today. He invested his resources, influence, and reputation in defending and promoting that structure when others stood on the sidelines.

The question before the people of Kogi is simple: What crime has become greater than loyalty?

How does a man who was trusted with strategic responsibilities suddenly become a target of public humiliation? How does someone who stood at the centre of power become treated as though he never belonged there? These are questions that cannot be swept under the carpet through propaganda, intimidation, or political maneuvering.

The demolition of properties linked to him and the allegations surrounding the incident have created more questions than answers. In any democracy governed by law, accusations are not convictions. Allegations are not evidence. Power does not replace due process. If there is credible evidence against any citizen, let it be presented before competent institutions. Let the law speak. Let justice prevail. Anything short of that risks creating the impression that political power is being weaponized against perceived opponents.

What is even more disturbing is the message this sends to thousands of political supporters and stakeholders across Kogi State. If a man who contributed significantly to the emergence and stability of the present political order can suddenly find himself isolated and subjected to such treatment, what assurance exists for others who continue to make sacrifices for the system?

Political structures do not collapse because of opposition attacks alone. They collapse when they begin to consume their own loyalists. They collapse when suspicion replaces trust, when vengeance replaces dialogue, and when power becomes more important than justice.

History is filled with leaders who mistook authority for invincibility. Many believed fear could sustain what goodwill had built. Many believed loyalty could be demanded indefinitely without respect. In the end, they discovered that political strength comes not from intimidation but from fairness, inclusion, and mutual respect.

The Senate's intervention must therefore go beyond politics. Nigerians deserve the truth. If the actions taken against Abdulmalik Teina were justified, let the evidence be made public. If due process was ignored, let those responsible answer for it. If political score-settling influenced the events in any way, then every democrat should be concerned because no society progresses when power becomes a tool for settling internal disputes.

Kogi State must never become a place where yesterday's allies become today's targets simply because political equations have changed. Such a path is dangerous, divisive, and ultimately destructive.

The real strength of leadership is not in how many people can be silenced. It is in how many properties can be demolished. It is in how much justice can be preserved.

The people are watching. History is recording. And posterity will judge.
