President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday in Lagos urged Nigerians to have faith in God that the country will experience peace, stability and prosperity.

Speaking to reporters after observing the Eid-el-Kabir prayers at Dodan Barracks prayer ground, the President stressed the need for unity and cooperation, appealing to Nigerians to eschew ethnic and religious rivalries.

While noting that Allah would not burden the country with what it cannot bear, the President said:

"I thank Almighty Allah for keeping us in good health till today and pray to Him to grant us robust health and prosperity. May our sacrifices turn to prosperity. We have to make the sacrifices and that is clear, we have to.

"But Allah will not give you a burden that you cannot carry. He is there for us. We must have faith in the country. Have faith in ourselves, believing that as citizens of this country, we must join hands to build the nation.

"No religious identity, no tribal identity, let us live with one another in joy and prosperity. Nigeria will see peace, stability and God will grant peace to those of us at the warfront."

The President also used the occasion to pray for Nigerian troops in the frontline in the fight against insurgency, saying it is his earnest desire and that of the nation that they emerge victorious.

President Bola Tinubu has departed for Paris to join world leaders in Paris, France, to review and sign a New Global Financial Pact that places vulnerable countries on a priority list for support and investment, following the devastating impact of climate change, the energy crisis, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

He took a helicopter from the Presidential Villa to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport earlier today, where he was received by state governors, government officials, and military personnel.

In a statement issued on Monday by Dele Alake, Special Adviser, Special Duties, Communication, and Strategy, the President will attend the two-day Summit on June 22 and 23, which will explore opportunities to restore fiscal space to countries dealing with difficult short-term financial challenges, specifically the most indebted.

It goes on to state that President Tinubu and other global leaders, multilateral institutions, financial experts, and economists will take a more comprehensive approach to the recovery of economies from the COVID-19 pandemic and rising poverty, with the goal of providing access to finance and investment that will leverage inclusive growth.

The President will return on Saturday, accompanied by members of the Presidential Policy Advisory Council along with other government officials.

The suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, approached the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja, challenging his detention by the Department of State Services (DSS).

In his originating motion on notice, Emefiele is praying for the court to enforce his right to liberty and freedom of movement, as there is no basis for his continuous detention.

However, the Attorney General of the Federation and the DSS have insisted that the detention of the suspended CBN Governor is lawful.

In a preliminary objection filed against the fundamental rights enforcement suit instituted by Emefiele, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and the DSS told the Federal Capital Territory High Court that the detention was backed by an order of a magistrates' court and prayed for the court to dismiss the motion with cost.

They noted that the arrest of the former CBN governor was an administrative decision of the DSS.
