NEW: In southern Lebanon, French UN peacekeepers shot down an Israeli surveillance drone after it flew aggressively over their patrol near Kfar Kila.

The drone reportedly dropped a gr***de, and shortly after, an Israeli tank fired toward the UN troops.

The decision to neutralize the drone was made by France, which oversees the unit.

BREAKING: Maryam Sanda, sentenced to death in 2020 for the culpable homicide of her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, has been removed from the pardon list by President Tinubu.

NEW: US intelligence says the UAE has secretly supplied weapons—including advanced Chinese-made drones—to Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The arms shipments, moved through Libya, Somalia, and Chad, include drones, artillery, and small arms, and have allowed the RSF to renew assaults in Darfur and other regions.

Qatar to focus on AI and technology in US investments, finance minister says

Qatar’s finance minister said on Tuesday that artificial intelligence will play a major role in the country’s planned investments in the US.

"I would say most of the (QIA investment) will be in technology and AI because we see the growth in this field, and it is going to be rewarding," Ali Ahmed Al-Kuwari said at the annual Future Investment Initiative conference in Riyadh.

"Now we see the huge growth in the US economy is coming from technology and AI and we believe this is one area we are going to focus on," he added.

The Qatar Investment Authority, the country’s sovereign wealth fund, intends to at least double its annual US investments over the next decade, its CEO stated in May. The fund has already pledged $500 billion in investments in the US economy over the coming 10 years.

WTO chief calls for reforms to 30-year-old organization

The head of the World Trade Organization (WTO) on Tuesday called for reforms to the 30-year-old body, emphasizing the challenges posed by its consensus rule, which requires all members to agree on global trade deals.

"We need to reform the system, we cannot be complacent," WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said at the Future Investment Initiative conference in Riyadh.

She added, "We need to reform some of the ways we do business like our consensus decision-making system which is practiced as unanimity - everyone has to agree - so it really slows down decision making."

Okonjo-Iweala also urged the WTO’s 166 members to engage with the US on its criticisms of the organization, noting that many of the concerns raised are valid.
