NAFDAC has sealed two Chinese supermarkets in Jabi District and eight cosmetics shops in Wuse Market for selling harmful and unregistered products. The supermarkets on Mike Akhigbe Way and Ebitu Ukiwe Street were shut after investigations confirmed the sale of food items labeled only in Chinese, violating NAFDAC’s labeling policy that requires English translations for the Nigerian market.

In Wuse Market, banned, expired, and unregistered cosmetics, aphrodisiacs, and aesthetic medicines were discovered, with some shop attendants even posing as dermatologists and pharmacists to prescribe harmful products.

Among the confiscated products valued at over ₦170 million were whitening gummies, enlargement supplements, herbal medicines with false claims, and other toxic products linked to kidney damage, skin cancer, and neurological disorders.

NAFDAC’s DG, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to safeguarding public health and warned that the sale of unregistered or toxic products will attract strict regulatory sanctions. She also advised foreign nationals and investors to engage NAFDAC for proper registration before bringing products into Nigeria.

Stay vigilant and protect your health, Abuja.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has pledged free legal support to Nigerians hara§§ed by the police over the controversial tinted glass permit, describing the policy as “illegal” and revenue-driven.

In a statement, Olukunle Edun (SAN), Chairman of the NBA’s Public Interest Litigation Committee, said, “We shall invoke the powers of the court to ensure that the Nigeria Police Force does not trample on the rights of Nigerians. Any citizen hara§§ed in the purported enforcement of the illegal tinted glass permit should contact any NBA branch.”

He added that the Human Rights Committees of the association’s 130 branches are ready to provide pro bono services, warning that the police could extort up to N3bn monthly under the scheme.

The NBA reminded the Inspector General of Police in a letter dated October 2, 2025, that the matter is already before the Federal High Court in Abuja (Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1821/2025). The case challenges the legality of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Decree 1991 and seeks to restrain the police from arrests, hara§§ment, or extortion.

NBA lawyer Godspower Eroga alleged that the police planned to divert proceeds into a private account instead of the Treasury Single Account, arguing the cited law sets no measurable standards for tinting and is incompatible with factory-fitted windows. He also noted that senior officers freely drive SUVs with dark tints.

The NBA insisted the policy amounts to “taxation without legislation,” stressing that the police are not a revenue agency. It condemned the impoundment of Justice O. A. Ogunbowale’s vehicle in Asaba on the first day of enforcement, calling it “an embarrassing and avoidable situation.”

The body lamented that its urgent application for an injunction was not heard due to court vacation, urging judges to act in public interest, “The judiciary’s authority and integrity are best protected when it prevents chaos, even if it means bending a procedural rule.”

Senator Ali Ndume, I know where you’re living, and there’s no streetlight. But go home and sleep now; there’ll be streetlights. That’s why each time you’re in the Senate and we ask for N1, increase it to N5, knowing fully well that the money will be utilised. - FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike tells Ndume during the flag off of the Light Up Abuja project

Former Adamawa North lawmaker, Senator Elisha Abbo, has surrendered to the Nigeria Police Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja following allegations that he r+ped a 13-year-old secondary school student.

According to the victim’s parents, the alleged as+ault took place on June 29, 2025, at Abbo’s residence in Katampe, Abuja. They further claimed that after the incident, Abbo repeatedly tried to silence them by sending money to the girl’s father.

In a startling twist, the family alleged that Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, popularly known as Binani and a former 2023 Adamawa governorship candidate, visited their home to dissuade them from going public with the case.

Police sources confirmed that Abbo is currently being held at the FCID headquarters, where investigators are interrogating him. “The matter is under thorough investigation, and no stone will be left unturned,” a senior officer told reporters on condition of anonymity.

This is not Abbo’s first brush with sc@ndal. In 2019, he made headlines when a viral video showed him assaulting a woman at a s+x toy shop in Abuja. He also faced allegations of attempting to bl+ckmail a married woman with a s+x tape, further damaging his reputation.

The latest case has drawn strong condemnation from civil society groups, child rights advocates, and women’s organizations, who insist that justice must prevail. The Executive Director of the Child Protection Network (Lagos Chapter) described the case as “a test of Nigeria’s cr+minal justice system,” warning authorities not to succumb to political pressure.

Since losing his Senate seat in 2023, Abbo has remained in the public spotlight largely for controversies rather than political achievements. His arrest has already sparked heated debate across social media, with many Nigerians demanding swift prosecution.

As of press time, neither Abbo nor his legal representatives have released an official statement.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday, October 2, 2025, arraigned Ene Queen Bamaiyi before Justice A.A. Halilu of the FCT High Court, Apo, on a one-count charge of criminal breach of trust involving ₦240,500,000.

According to the charge, Bamaiyi was entrusted with the sum of ₦240.5 million by one Bright Okubo for foreign exchange conversion but allegedly dishonestly converted ₦124 million to her personal use.

She pleaded “not guilty” to the charge. EFCC’s counsel, Joshua Saidi, disclosed plans to call five witnesses to prove the case. Meanwhile, her lawyer, M.A. Attah (SAN), prayed the court to grant her bail on liberal terms, noting that she is a single mother of a two-year-old child.

The case has been adjourned for trial. ⚖️

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said he is ready to drop his 2027 presidential ambition if a younger, vibrant and widely accepted candidate emerges under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Atiku, a key member of the opposition coalition, made this known in an interview with BBC Hausa Service on Wednesday. He stressed that his interest in the race is not driven by personal ambition but by the need to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative.

“My being in the 2027 race does not prevent anyone from contesting. If a vibrant and widely accepted younger candidate emerges, I am willing to step aside,” Atiku said.

He dismissed suggestions that he is desperate for the presidency, saying his concern is to “rescue Nigeria from those who have held it hostage.”

Atiku also urged young Nigerians to take politics seriously, assuring that he would give his full backing if a younger candidate is chosen to represent the coalition.
