CALL FOR JUSTICE: ABDULKARIM MUHAMMAD (NYAKO)

Abdulkarim Muhammad (Nyako), poppularly called "Abdu" a 32-year-old resident of Kishika district, Bassa LGA, Plateau State, was brutally murdered on Wednesday, 10th September 2025, along with a police personnel by Rukuba youths in Kisaloi area.

Prior to this incident, Abdu was involved in a dispute with a police officer serving in Katsina State, an indigene of Bassa LGA, regarding farm encroachment in June. His animals had trespassed and damaged the farm in Kishika area, where Abdu lived with his wife and child.

Attempts to settle the dispute at the village head's residence were unsuccessful due to the high compensation demanded by the farm owner. Despite two attempts at negotiating compensation, an agreement could not be reached.

On Wednesday, Abdu was arrested by police personnel from the CID without any resistance. Unfortunately, while being transported alongside a police officer, they were ambushed by Rukuba youths around Kisaloi, brutally beaten, and killed.

SIMON EKPA TO LOSE HIS FINNISH NATIONALITY; TO BE DEPORTED TO NIGERIA AFTER SERVING PRISON TERM.

Simon Ekpa self styled "Prime Minister " of Biafra, the Nigerian armed secessionist group (proscribed as a terrorist group by Nigeria) has been sentenced to 6 years in prison in Finland for terrorism. His nationality will be revoked and he will be deported after serving his sentence. According to the law in Finland if you are convicted of treason or terrorism your nationality will be revoked.

In 2023, Simon Ekpa signed a so call "Military Pact" with Ambazonia separatist self styled "leader" Lucas Cho Ayaba, a Cameroonian living in Norway. He is presently under detention by the Norwegian authorities facing charges of terrorism. Many other Ambazonia self-appointed leaders are in prison in America and many others under investigation for terrorism.

Simon Ekpa became active in the "Biafra independence movement" in 2019. He was noticed by the Nigerian media after he posted a video claiming that Nigerian soldiers had been killed by Boko Haram. According to a Nigerian rights attorney, the purpose was to "disillusion Nigerians especially soldiers to resign from the Army".

In July 2021, Ekpa was announced the lead broadcaster for Radio Biafra, associated with the separatist organisation Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) after the arrest of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu. However, Ekpa was not allowed to broadcast for violation of the rules of the organisation. In 2022, IPOB accused Ekpa of illegal activities and stated that IPOB was a peaceful organization. In July 2023, the Daily Post said that Ekpa led a faction of IPOB, as did Premium Times in May 2024. According to Ekpa, IPOB was dissolved in a vote, renamed "Autopilot", and he became its spokesman. In August 2022, Ekpa declared "full activation" of the Biafran Government in Exile. He said: "we also wish to officially announce an alliance and activation of Biafra Government In Exile (BGIE) with the IPOB-Autopilot." In April 2023, he announced that he had been appointed as the prime minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE). Nigerian news media have variously referred to him as "prime minister" or "self-acclaimed prime minister" of the government-in-exile. Ekpa stated in 2023 that "Biafra Republic Government In-Exile is registered, approved and legal. Agent of Nigeria, take note!" As of 2024, it has a main office in Maryland, US. IPOB called the BRGIE "double agents sponsored by the Nigerian government to ridicule the IPOB movement". Suomen Kuvalehti said in 2024 that "Be it as it may, Ekpa is now at least the prime minister by some."

Zubairu Dada, Nigerian minister, said the same year that "When [Ekpa] gives instructions, destruction follows. They cause killing, maiming, fires, whatever." Nigerian general Christopher Gwabin Musa said "In the South-east, Simon Ekpa has become a menace to this country. The country must act on it diplomatically. [Ekpa] is having a freeway because [Finland] are encouraging him to do what he is doing. His utterances and actions are affecting what is happening in Nigeria." Ekpa said in 2024 that he is in daily contact with Kanu.

According to a report from Yle, Ekpa's activism started to gather mainstream attention in February 2023. The local Kokoomus party in Lahti stated that it had started an internal investigation of these claims. A representative of the association Igbo Union Finland said: "He should stop inciting hatred and provoking. Ekpa does not represent the Igbo people of Finland". The Nigerian government has also demanded Finland stop Ekpa's activities.Yle interviews with residents of Enugu suggested extensive fear of Ekpa and compliance with his "sit at home" orders which involved the 2023 Nigerian elections. In late February 2023 Yle reported Ekpa is being suspected of having raised funds in an illegal manner by the Finnish National Bureau of Investigation. As of early 2023, his speeches on Twitter had around 800,000 views.

In December 2022, Ekpa declared a five-day sit at home civil disobedience campaign in the southeast and parts of southern Nigeria from 9 to 14 December 2022. On 14 June 2023, Ekpa announced a week-long sit at home campaign from 3 to 10 July 2023, which according to The Whistler recorded 70% compliance. The sit-at-homes have been enforced by gunmen.

In 2023, he declared that the 2023 Nigerian general election would not be held in the Biafra region that year.

Ekpa continued Kanu's sit-at-home orders, to protest the imprisonment of Kanu. In July 2023, he threatened that oil exploitations in the Biafra region would be stopped if Kanu wasn't to be released. However, Ekpa exonerated Kanu from the activities of the Biafra agitations. He said Kanu wasn't responsible for the actions taken to free him. The head of ACLED's Nigerian branch criticizes 'Ekpa's faction' for attacking those not following this curfew. Ekpa denies violence against civilians, by stating "After the creation of the defensive forces, government forces no longer encroach on our area, because we have manpower all over, that protect".

The Nigerian senate asked Finland to extradite Ekpa in July 2023. In May 2024, BRGIE declared a three-day sit at home from 29 to 31 May. Ekpa said it was "necessary to enable Biafrans vote for the Liberation of Biafra". IPOB disagreed on the date, having earlier declared their own sit at # home on 30 May. The conflicting messages caused confusion and fear of violence in the region. The police and military said that people should go about their lawful business.

In October 2023, Ekpa and cabinet members of BRGIE hosted a three-day convention in Helsinki, Finland, where a possible Biafran referendum was discussed with participants and attendants from Biafra. In early February 2024, BRGIE announced the commencement of the Biafra Referendum and revealed the structure of the proposed independent state of Biafra.

BRGIE has stated that it intends to issue a "declaration of Biafra independent state" in late 2024, and that this declaration will bring peace and stability to the West African region. Ekpa said mid-2024 that over 30 million votes had been recorded in an online voting "self-referendum" regarding the sovereignty of Biafra and as of July 2024, he said "over 49 million Biafrans have voted in the ongoing self-referendum". In June 2024, the Organisation of Emerging African States (OEAS), a group that counsels African separatists, said that "the BRGIE referendum further consolidated the self-determination pursuit of the people of Biafra amid decades of alleged marginalization by the Nigerian government." According to Ekpa, only BRGIE has the legitimate right to call for "Biafra's declaration".

At the three-day convention he also announced the formation of the Biafra Liberation Army (BLA), a militant group fighting for secession from Nigeria. He had previously claimed to control the Eastern Security Network, IPOB's armed wing, and said this group was renamed BLA. BLA was suspected to have killed a police officer in Imo State in November 2023. According to Ekpa, it has a hundred thousand soldiers. IPOB disassociated itself from the BLA.

Yle had in February 2023 reported that estimates of the number of gunmen loyal to Ekpa vary greatly, from hundreds to tens of thousands. In late 2023, Ekpa and Ambazonian activist Ayaba Cho Lucas announced a military pact between their respective organizations against the Cameroonian and Nigerian governments. In June 2024, Ekpa signed a one-year agreement to be represented by the American lobbying firm Moran Global Strategies.

In March 2024, the Nigerian Defence Headquarters (DHQ) declared Ekpa and more than 90 others "wanted" for "terrorism, kidnapping and other crimes." Ekpa responded that he had nothing to do with Nigeria, and declared other people "wanted" in his turn. In May 2024, the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights in Banjul, the judicial arm of the African Union (AU), acknowledged a petition by the BRGIE regarding Kanu and a declaration of the restoration of independent state of Biafra.

In May 2024, Ekpa urged the Nigerian government to engage the Finnish government to mediate in the conflict between BLA and the Nigerian army. In June 2024, a former director of the Nigerian State Security Service called for the extradition of Ekpa to Nigeria. He urged the Nigerian government to initiate negotiations with Finnish authorities to repatriate Ekpa. Nigeria's Chief of Defence Staff Musa also reiterated call for the arrest and prosecution of Ekpa. He accused the Finnish government and the European union of shielding Ekpa, thereby preventing his arrest.

On 30 July 2024, the Biafra Defence Forces killed four Nigerian police operatives. Ekpa classified them as "terrorists" and declared that they should be withdrawn from the Biafran region.

In August 2024, Simon Ekpa and the "Biafra Republic Government" in Exile ordered 30 days lockdown of the Nigerian government institutions in the South East region, from 28 August to 26 September, excluding private businesses. This action responds to the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu and alleged killings of Christians and Biafrans. Ekpa demands Kanu's release and the withdrawal of Nigerian security forces from the region.

On 20 August 2024, Ekpa unveiled the map of a proposed 40 "United States of Biafra" and announced 2 December 2024 as the date for its official presentation and issuance of a declaration of independence. Declaration happened on 29 November. The Nigerian government, while reacting to the development through the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), stated that it is engaging with the European Union to extradite Ekpa from Finland. In response, the Biafra Republic Government in Exile says it is inviting the Nigerian government to the Biafra restoration declaration convention in Finland for possible dialogue.

RUGA Meets Forest Guards: Nigeria’s Missed Opportunity to End Banditry and Farmer–Herder Conflicts

By Al-Amin Isa

When the Federal Government rolled out the idea of Rural Grazing Areas (RUGA) a few years ago, the noise was deafening. Critics saw it as a backdoor to land grabbing; supporters hailed it as a long-overdue step toward solving farmer–herder clashes. The truth, however, lies somewhere in between: RUGA was originally a colonial-era idea—designed to create designated grazing areas for pastoralists, reduce open grazing, and minimize conflict with farmers. Unfortunately, like many Nigerian policies, it collapsed under the weight of bad politics and poor ex*****on.

Fast-forward to 2024. Another big initiative was unveiled: the National Forest Guard Service. This was meant to reclaim our forests—now safe havens for bandits, cattle rustlers, and kidnappers—by deploying specially trained guards to patrol and secure these vast spaces. A noble idea, yes, but still another half-solution.

Now imagine if Nigeria had the wisdom to merge both initiatives into one powerful program. A marriage of RUGA and Forest Guards could change the security and food landscape of this country forever.

Why the Merger Makes Sense

Both RUGA and the Forest Guards were created to solve different sides of the same problem. One focuses on grazing and rural development, the other on forest security. But the reality is that herders, farmers, and bandits often operate in the same spaces. Grazing reserves are surrounded by forests, and forests are often where herders take livestock—and where bandits hide.

By merging the two, Nigeria can:

• Kill two birds with one stone—tackle insecurity while improving livestock productivity.

• End farmer–herder clashes by creating secured grazing corridors under guard protection.

• Cut off bandits from safe havens, since the same Guards protecting RUGA can patrol surrounding forests.

• Boost food security by reducing crop destruction, livestock theft, and food price shocks.

The Stakes Are Too High

The statistics are sobering. According to reports, farmer–herder clashes killed over 2,300 Nigerians between 2020 and 2024. Banditry has displaced hundreds of thousands in the North-West and North-Central, shutting down farming and rural markets. Food inflation is at record highs, driven partly by insecurity in food-producing areas.

Meanwhile, Nigeria has 415 grazing reserves, yet less than one-third are functional. Forests, which should be protected national assets, are instead war zones. In simple terms: the land that should feed us and give us peace is being surrendered to bandits and conflict.

How It Could Work

Here’s the vision:

• Designated RUGA zones are built with water points, veterinary clinics, and schools for pastoralist families.

• Forest Guards patrol and secure these grazing zones and surrounding forests, ensuring bandits and cattle rustlers are pushed out.

• Local youth are employed as guards, herders, and agro-workers, giving them livelihoods instead of leaving them vulnerable to crime recruitment.

• **Technology—drones, GPS tracking, and digital grazing permits—**keeps everything transparent and accountable.

• Community Peace Committees of farmers, herders, and traditional rulers resolve disputes early before they escalate.

This is not rocket science—it is what countries like Kenya and Ethiopia have done with great success.

The Benefits

If Nigeria pulls this off, the benefits are immense:

• Peace in rural areas: Farmers can plant without fear, herders can graze without harassment.

• Food security boost: More milk, meat, and grains for local consumption, less pressure on imports.

• Youth employment: Tens of thousands of jobs created in herding, security, and agro-processing.

• Environmental balance: Controlled grazing and reforestation to fight desertification.

• Cost savings: Nigeria spends billions yearly dealing with displacement, food imports, and security operations. Prevention is cheaper than endless crisis management.

What Could Go Wrong?

Of course, nothing is perfect. Land ownership disputes could spark new tensions if government is not transparent. Politicians might hijack the project for ethnic or electoral gains. Poor funding could cripple it halfway. And if it is run as another Abuja-centered program, it will collapse before it starts.

But these risks are manageable with strong legal backing, federal–state collaboration, and above all, community ownership.

Conclusion: The Time to Act Is Now

Nigeria doesn’t need more scattered half-measures. What it needs is integration and bold thinking. A merged RUGA–Forest Guard program would not just be about cattle or trees—it would be about security, food, jobs, and peace.

The government has already tested both models separately. The smart move now is to fuse them into a single, powerful initiative that addresses insecurity from its roots.

Because here’s the hard truth: until our rural areas are secured and our grazing systems modernized, Nigeria will keep bleeding lives, livestock, and livelihoods. And no nation can grow on empty stomachs and burning farms.

MACBAN miyetti Allah..
The Benue State chapter of the Miyeiti Ala Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has raised an alarm over the killing of 70 cows and three rams belonging to its members across the state.

The association also claimed that one of its members went missing in Ohimini Local Government Area.

Chairman of MACBAN, Ando Risku Mohammed, alleged that personnel of the State Civil Protection Guard and local vigilante groups in Ohimini were responsible for the killing of three sheep and 30 cows during a raid on a Fulani settlement, as well as the disappearance of one member.

He further accused the security personnel of killing an additional 22 cows in Katsina Ala and 24 cows in Guma LGAs.

Mohammed said, “Our members have been having problems with the Civil Protection Guards and vigilante groups in Ohimini LGA since last Thursday. They invaded our settlement, attacked our people, one of our members is still missing, and three sheep and 30 cows were killed.”

When contacted, the Chairman of Ohimini LGA, Adole Gabriel, confirmed that MACBAN had raised the issue with the council authorities and said an investigation was ongoing.

He noted that the police were aware of the allegations. “Those are the allegations the MACBAN leader made when he called me a few days ago. We are yet to confirm it, but I can assure you that an investigation into the matter is ongoing,” Gabriel said.

Meanwhile, Special Adviser to Governor Hyacinth Alia on Security and Internal Affairs, Joseph Har, cleared personnel of the State Civil Protection Guard of any wrongdoing.

He explained, “Our men do not go out for operations alone. They complement conventional security operatives such as the police and military during surveillance because they are familiar with the environment. MACBAN cannot claim that our personnel are responsible for these killings.”

DSP Udeme Edet, spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, confirmed that reports from Ohimini indicated the killing of one cow and one sheep, and that a Fulani man was reportedly missing.

“There is no report of killings in Katsina Ala. In Ohimini, one cow and one sheep were killed, and police are still searching for the missing person,” she said.

KARIM LAMIDO: 6 BRIGADE NIGERIAN ARMY HOLDS PEACE DIALOGUE AMONG FULANI, BANDAWA, MUNGA LELAU AND MUNGA DOSSO COMMUNITIES

As part of sustained efforts to safeguard lives, property, and promote peaceful coexistence among diverse communities in Taraba State, the Commander 6 Brigade Nigerian Army (NA)/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, on Tuesday 5 August 2025, conducted an operational visit to Karim Lamido Local Government Area (LGA).

The visit centred on a peace dialogue involving representatives of the Fulani, Bandawa, Munga Lelau and Munga Dosso communities. The meeting, held at the Karim Lamido LGA Secretariat, brought together key stakeholders including community elders, traditional rulers, and religious leaders.

This engagement followed a peace accord earlier signed on 30 June 2025, which had recently been breached by some factions. In response, Brigadier General Uwa proactively re-engaged the parties in a renewed effort to restore trust, address grievances, and prevent a relapse into violence.

In his remarks, the Brigade Commander emphasised unity, dialogue, and collective responsibility in addressing the underlying security challenges. He urged all parties to set aside differences and embrace honest, open, and constructive engagement. Condemning the cycle of violence, he warned against individuals or groups taking the law into their own hands. “We must all embrace peace and work together to restore harmony in our communities,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of Karim Lamido LGA, Hon. Birtrus Dan Jos, commended Brigadier General Uwa for his unwavering dedication to peacebuilding, particularly noting his physical presence despite poor road conditions from Jalingo.“His commitment reflects the Nigerian Army’s genuine interest in community welfare and stability,” the Chairman stated.

The dialogue concluded with all stakeholders reaffirming their commitment to the original peace accord.

BENUE: TRUE STORY SURROUNDING HON. DICKSON TARKIGHIR'S COWS```

16th June, 2025 | 7:16 PM

There are videos on social media of cows eating cassava and other crops in some farms own by Benue people.

These cows allegedly belong to the honourable member of the House of Representatives for Makurdi/Guma, Hon. Dickson Tarkighir.

It is gathered from a reliable source that those cows are kept in fenced land in Welfare Quarters, Makurdi.

They go out to graze freely and openly around that area destroying people's farms, while the herders of the cows will make videos and give to those opposing the administration of Governor Alia to post on Facebook.

It is alleged that most of the cows are either rustled from Fulani or bought from cow rustlers.

Report has it that the Fulani were planning to attack Welfare Quarters and take away their cows.

Upon hearing this, the Welfare Quarters community said they don't want problem.

They directed Hon. Dickson to take his cows out of the Quarters, but the latter refused to listen to the people of Welfare Quarters.

After the attack on Yelewata, it is was gathered that the Fulani again threatened to attack Hon. Dickson's place at Welfare Quarters and take away their cows.

On hearing this, Hon. Dickson ordered that the cows be evacuated to another plot of land he built for the same purpose at Nyôr-Gyungu, another location in Makurdi.

Three Fulani guys who have been herding the cows moved the cows yesterday, June 15th 2025 in the night causing fear and apprehension in the people.

They moved the cows to Nyôr-Gyungu.

On reaching there, the youth of Nyôr-Gyungu community held the Fulani guys and insisted to know whose cows there were herding and why they had to be moving with them in the night.

They raised alarm and insisted that Dickson should move his cows out of their community.

Dickson Tarkighir now sent in heavily armed security men who came and forcefully took the Fulani guys away, refusing to heed to the demand of the youth of the community.

The traditional rulers within that community intervened also.

They calmed the youth down, held a meeting with Dickson Tarkighir and State government officials headed by the Advisor to the Governor on internal security, Joe Haa.

They begged Dickson to move the cows out pending when the tension will calm down then, he will follow due process.

The due process they said, Dickson Tarkighir has to inform the community that he wants to keep his cows there, tell them the number of cows he has, and show them the people that will be tending the cows.

This, they said will help them to keep eyes on the cows and watch it's movement to avoid infiltration of externals.

Dickson Tarkighir was viciously angry with the youth insisting that he was not moving the cows.

Government authorities begged him to heed to the advice of the elders to avoid escalation of tension, but he repudiated.

He also refused to address his constituents, the angry youth of Nyôr-Gyungu.

This act may be interpreted as adding up to the general civil unrest going on in Benue State.

It is wrong that in the heat of the carnage where all hands are pointing at Fulani herders, Dickson Tarkighir will direct Fulanis to be moving with his cows in the night causing fear in the people.

It's also wrong to use force to stay among a people.

It has to be through negotiations and diplomacy.

Remember, Governor Alia said some members of the National Assembly are aiding what is going on in Benue State.

Dickson Tarkighir should not have presented himself as a practical prove to what the Governor said.

All that we need is peace! Dickson Tarkighir should follow due process and bring his cows back to where he wants to keep them. He should hire Tiv guys to be tending his cows and now strangers.

Simon Ngôgyo writes from Nyôr-Gyungu, Makurdi
