NAHCON Unveils Gains, Says N5.3 Billion Refunded to State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards for Unprovided 2023 Services

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria NAHCON has announced the refund of N5.3 billion to State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards for services not rendered during the 2023 Hajj, as part of its drive for transparency and accountability. The Commission disclosed this in Katsina during a presentation to the North West Governors’ Forum by the NAHCON Chairman, Prof Abdullahi Saleh Usman.

Unveiling other gains under the Renewed Hope of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, the Chairman noted that the President approved a N90 billion intervention to cushion the impact of foreign exchange volatility on 2024 Hajj fares and authorized N24 billion to settle outstanding airline debts from the 2023 exercise. He added that President Tinubu further directed airlines to accept payments in naira, shielding pilgrims from the burden of rising dollar rates. The Commission also expanded the Hajj Savings Scheme, replacing the suspended CBN credit card policy for Basic Travel Allowance, BTA, to enable Muslims gradually save towards performing Hajj.

On welfare, Subtle MEDIA Network gathered that NAHCON reported improved services for pilgrims, including the provision of VIP Tent “A+” at Muna, timely supply of over 98 percent of required medicines and savings on Mashair services, accommodation, transportation and airfare across all regions. The Chairman attributed these gains to strategic negotiations, reforms and strong presidential backing, assuring that the Commission will sustain transparency, deepen collaboration with State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards, and set new standards for accountability and service delivery in future Hajj operations.

The Chairmanship aspirant for Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State, Hon. Hassan Abdulrahman, has congratulated Hon. Akhigbe Osi John Sunday on his nomination as Commissioner Designate by the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo.

NAHCON, TAJ Bank Review Hajj Savings Scheme Portal Ahead of 2026 Exercise

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria NAHCON, in partnership with TAJ Bank, has held a strategic review meeting to assess the performance and functionality of the Hajj Savings Scheme registration portal.

Subtle MEDIA Network gathered that the session focused on improving user accessibility and streamlining the savings process to make participation easier for prospective pilgrims. The review also provided an opportunity to evaluate feedback from users and identify areas for system upgrade.

According to the organizers, the move is part of NAHCON’s commitment to ensure transparency, efficiency and readiness of the scheme ahead of the 2026 Hajj exercise. The partnership with TAJ Bank is expected to further strengthen operational capacity and enhance the overall pilgrimage experience for Nigerians.

The Chairmanship aspirant for Etsako West Local Government Council, Alhaji (Dr) Abubakar Ikheigbe Abbas, has called on politicians and party stakeholders to accord respect to all political aspirants, stressing that no aspirant should be discouraged or underrated.

Alhaji Abbas gave this advice recently during a media chat with Subtle MEDIA Network. The Jattu-born politician said every contestant is a potential candidate capable of emerging victorious in an election.

Dr Abubakar Ikheigbe Abbas emphasized that politics is about inclusiveness and healthy competition, where every aspirant deserves a fair chance. He said undermining aspirants does not only discourages genuine participation but also weakens the democratic process.

The chairmanship hopeful for Etsako West in the fourth coming Edo local Government Poll further urged party members, supporters and the electorate to promote a culture of encouragement and mutual respect among aspirants. Oghieaga Stresses Qur’anic Memorization as True Path to Honour

The Oghieaga of Ivbie in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, HRH, Mallam Ali D. Sulayman, has stressed the importance of Qur’anic recitation and memorization as a foundation for moral guidance and spiritual upliftment.

In an encounter with Subtle MEDIA Network, the Edo monarch noted that true honour does not lie in wealth, titles or positions, but in preserving the words of Allah in the heart. He emphasized that Qur’anic memorization not only strengthens individual faith but also safeguards Islamic heritage for future generations. According to him, communities flourish when the younger generation is encouraged to commit the Qur’an to memory, as this fosters discipline, piety and moral strength.

The revered traditional ruler further urged parents, leaders and Islamic organizations to promote Qur’anic recitation and memorization as part of efforts to build stronger and value-driven societies. He added that such initiatives remain critical in nurturing upright future leaders who will uphold the principles of Islam and contribute positively to national development.

It will be recalled that the Oghieaga was recently represented by the Orochi of Ivbie Land, Chief Salihu Aliu at the public presentation of the books, “Becoming a Haafidh” and “The Pilgrim’s Path” authored by Alhaji Miftahu Bilal, Senior Special Assistant to the Kogi State Governor on Hajj Affairs. The event was held on Sunday 14th September, 2025 at the National Mosque, Abuja.

NAHCON PPMF Commissioner Warns Against Unethical Journalism

The Commissioner for Policy, Personnel, Management and Finance, PPMF of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, Prince Mallam Aliu Abdulrazak, has urged journalists and media professionals to uphold credibility in their reportage and remain faithful to the ethics of their profession.

The NAHCON Commissioner gave this advice recently in an encounter with Subtle MEDIA Network in Abuja.

Commending the role of the media in nation-building shortly after the Post-Hajj Lecture and Award ceremony organized by the Independent Hajj Reporters in Abuja, the Commissioner described the press as a vital tool in shaping society. He further called on media practitioners to use their platforms to promote accountability, peace and progress in the country.

Prince Abdulrazak stressed that journalism should serve as an instrument for national growth and unity, rather than a weapon of destruction in the hands of unethical practitioners. He therefore cautioned journalists against the practice of receiving inducements to discredit individuals or institutions, describing it as a serious threat to the integrity of the profession. According to him, journalism must be anchored on truth, balance, fairness and values that safeguard public trust and confidence.

Edo Monarchs Visit Otaru of Auchi, Radiate Love and Unity

In a cheering display of royal solidarity and brotherhood, two eminent traditional rulers in Edo State, recently paid a courtesy visit to their royal counterpart, the Otaru of Auchi Sacred Kingdom, His Royal Highness Alhaji Aliru H. Momoh, Ikelebe III. The visit, which was held in Auchi, reaffirmed the bonds of unity and mutual respect among custodians of tradition across Etsako land.

The visit was led by the Oghieaga of Ibvie in Etsako East Local Government Area, His Royal Highness, Mallam Ali D. Sulayman and the Aidonogie of South Ibie, His Royal Highness Alhaji Aliyu Kelvin Danesi.

Their presence at the palace of the Otaru emphasize not only the cultural heritage they represent but also the faith and enduring spirit of fellowship that binds Edo monarchs together.

The royal visit was marked by warm exchanges and smiles. This provided reassurance to subjects and admirers of the Auchi throne. Observers have however noted with joy that the Otaru, despite his age and a recent health challenge, his successful return to the kingdom after a medical trip has set Auchi on a renewed and progressive path, inspiring confidence in his reign and delighting his people.

The visit has been described by many as a powerful symbol of unity, peace and continuity of traditions in Edo North. The visit also sent a strong message of collective leadership, as the royal fathers pledged their commitment to preserving cultural values and faith while promoting harmony among their people.
