The Enduring Legacy of Adams Oshiomhole

By

August 29, 2026.

Long before the Senate chambers, Government House and the corridors of party leadership, Adams Oshiomhole began his public journey on the factory floor of a textile mill in Kaduna. There, listening to workers struggle with poor wages and difficult conditions, he discovered a cause that would define much of his life, the fight for the dignity of the ordinary worker. It was a journey that earned him the enduring identity of “Comrade.”

Born in Iyamoh-Uzairue, Edo state, Oshiomhole rose through the labour movement, eventually becoming president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC. As a union leader, he became known for his boldness, fiery speeches and willingness to confront authority in defence of workers' interests. His leadership of organised labour cemented his reputation as a formidable voice for the working class.

Politics later opened a new chapter. In 2007, Oshiomhole became Governor of Edo state, serving two terms and leaving a visible imprint through investments in roads, schools and public infrastructure. His transition from labour activism to political leadership did not, however, erase the combative spirit that had characterised his years as a unionist.

In 2018, he became National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, taking charge of the party at a period of intense political contestation and internal disagreements. His tenure was eventually cut short amid a leadership crisis and his suspension from the party structure in 2019.

In 2023, Oshiomhole returned to elective office, winning the Edo North Senatorial seat. At the National Assembly, where he serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Interior, he has continued to speak with the characteristic directness that has followed him from the factory floor to the highest levels of public service.

More than five decades after he first found his voice among workers, the titles have changed, but the man remains recognisable. Worker, unionist, governor, party leader and senator, the journey of Adams Oshiomhole is, in many ways, the story of a fighter who never completely left the factory floor behind.

NPC CHAIRMAN GOES HOME

By
Abdullateef Muhammad

August 29, 2026.

There are moments when words become too fragile to carry the weight of grief. The death of the Executive Chairman of the National Population Commission, Dr Aminu Yusuf Sado, is one such moment. A man who occupied an office entrusted with counting the living has now become part of the eternal number of those who have answered the final call. John Donne’s immortal words in 'Death Be Not Proud' remind us that death, despite its frightening presence, is not the ultimate victor.

Today, Dr Aminu goes home, leaving behind a nation in mourning and memories that will outlive the silence of the grave.

Death is the great equaliser before whom titles, wealth and earthly accomplishments bow. William Shakespeare, in 'Hamlet', wrote of death as “the undiscover’d country,” a destination from which no traveller returns. Yet, while the journey beyond remains a mystery to the living, the legacy of a man remains visible in the lives and institutions he leaves behind.

Dr Aminu Yusuf Sado’s passage through public service may have ended, but his name, his responsibilities and the chapter he wrote at the NPC, will remain part of the story of his generation.

And so, as the earth receives Dr Aminu and mourners bid him farewell, we are reminded of our own mortality. The Qur’an speaks with profound simplicity, “Every soul shall taste death.” Perhaps, that is the greatest lesson of his departure, that no office is permanent, no position is forever and no earthly journey escapes its final destination.

Dr Aminu Yusuf Sado has gone ahead, the rest of us remain travellers on the same road. May Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds, illuminate his grave, grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus and give his family, colleagues and the entire nation the strength to bear this painful loss.

From Principles to Progress: Adams Oshiomhole and the Politics of Transformative Leadership

By

August 29, 2026.

From the factory floor to the corridors of power, Adams Oshiomhole’s political journey has always centred on people, power and what leadership should deliver.

Adams Oshiomhole has remained a distinctive voice in Nigerian politics for a reason. He speaks with conviction, challenges those in power and rarely leaves anyone guessing where he stands.

That character was shaped during his years as a labour leader, standing with workers concerned about wages, jobs and dignity. As his journey took him from labour activism to the Edo State Government House and later to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, one belief remained constant: leadership should make a difference in people's everyday lives.

As APC National Chairman, Oshiomhole faced the difficult task of managing competing interests, ambitions and expectations within one of Nigeria's biggest political parties. He brought his familiar style: bold, outspoken and sometimes confrontational. Supporters saw courage; critics saw excess. Either way, his tenure reflected the realities of political leadership, where choices have consequences and history eventually weighs both.

Today, Oshiomhole occupies a different seat, as a senator representing Edo North.

Unlike an executive office, the Senate offers a quieter kind of power: shaping laws, asking difficult questions, exercising oversight and ensuring constituents have a voice in national affairs.

Behind those responsibilities are real people: the trader trying to keep a business alive, the young person searching for opportunity, the farmer needing better roads, and the parent worrying about tomorrow.

These are the people who give meaning to a Senate seat.

Oshiomhole brings considerable experience to this new chapter. He has been a workers' advocate, governor, party chairman and now federal legislator. Few Nigerian politicians have seen the political system from so many sides.

The challenge now is to turn that experience into effective representation, to use his influence not simply to remain a powerful voice in Nigerian politics, but to deliver meaningful results for Edo North.

Because people do not wake up every morning thinking about political titles. They think about their families, jobs, businesses and hopes for a better tomorrow.

So the question is simple: Did your leadership make life better for the people who trusted you?

For Oshiomhole, this second act offers another opportunity to answer that question.

When the political noise fades, what will remain is the work and the lives it touched.

That is where a political legacy is truly made.

Dr Abbas Congratulates TSG DG, Holds Strategic Talks on Stronger APC Mobilisation Ahead of 2027

By

August 27, 2027.

An Abuja-based politician and stalwart of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr. Abass Abubakar Ikheigbe, has paid a strategic visit to the Director-General of the Tinubu Support Group, TSG and member of the Presidential Campaign Council, Dr. Umar Tanko Yakasai, in his office in Abuja.

The visit provided an opportunity for Dr. Ikheigbe to congratulate Dr. Yakasai on his recent appointment into the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu 2027 Presidential Election Campaign Council.

Speaking to Subtle MEDIA Network shortly after the visit, Dr. Abbas described the engagement as part of his continued commitment to constructive political consultations and collaboration within the APC.

According to him, sustained engagement among party stakeholders remains crucial to advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda and creating a formidable support base for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Also present at the meeting was Hon. Ebenezer Oyetakin, former President of the Nigeria Youth Organisation, whose participation further affirmed the importance of youth engagement and strategic networking in the emerging political landscape.

The visit by Dr. Ikheigbe and Hon. Oyetakin to the TSG Director-General is seen as part of the early consultations and relationship-building efforts expected to gather momentum as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections gradually intensify.

The meeting is coming at a time when stakeholders are increasingly exploring avenues to consolidate their networks, deepen grassroots engagement and build stronger mobilisation ahead of the next electoral cycle.
