ABUJA JOB RUSH: 500 Graduates Queue for a Shared Room, 150k Salary… and a touch of Heartbreak
In what looked less like a job interview and more like a mini NYSC camp, over 500 graduates — many boasting first-class and second-class upper degrees — flooded the gates of Crush Café, Abuja, to compete for a single staff position.
The offer? ₦150,000 a month plus “accommodation.” But before you imagine a cosy apartment, sources reveal the “accommodation” is more of a sleep-and-keep-your-bag space, shared with other staff. Think hostel vibes, but without the freshers’ week excitement.
With Abuja’s rent prices capable of giving even Dangote a headache, the big question is: how far can ₦150k really go? Spoiler: in some parts of the city, that’s just enough for shawarma, transport, and one small bag of rice.
One observer sighed, “This is the definition of supply meeting demand — but the demand is bread, and the supply is cake crumbs.”
In short, Nigeria isn’t just in a “finished” state — it’s been packaged, wrapped, and shipped with a return to sender note.
