General Ali appointed Force Commander MNJTF, as Nigerian Army reshuffles top brass

Major General Ibrahim Ali has been appointed as the Force Commander Multinational Joint Task Force MNJTF following the reshufflement and appointment of top brass by the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja across Nigerian Army formations and units.

In a statement by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the redeployment is in an effort to reposition the Nigerian Army (NA) for operational efficiency and functional administration.

Those affected in the recent redeployment include some Principal Staff Officers (PSOs) of the Army Headquarters (AHQ) General Officers Commanding (GOCs), Corps Commanders, Commandants of training institutions, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, amongst others.

Some of the senior officers appointed as PSOs of the AHQ include Maj Gen AB Ibrahim who was posted from Headquarters 3 Division NA to the Department of Policy and Plans (DAPP) and appointed Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Maj Gen BR Sinjen posted from Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery (NACA) to the Department of Army Operations (DAOPs) and appointed Chief of Operations(Army) and Maj Gen OR Aiyenigba from Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police to Department of Army Standards and Evaluation and appointed Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation (Army). Others are Maj Gen NC Ugbo from Nigerian Army Signals School to Department of Civil Military Affairs and appointed Chief of Civil Military Affairs and Maj Gen E Akerejola from Headquarters Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport to Army Headquarters Department of Logistics as the Chief of Logistics (Army).

Senior officers appointed as General Officers Commanding (GOCs) are Major General BA Alabi from Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) to Headquarters 1 Division as GOC, Maj Gen AE Abubakar from Headquarters 7 Division to 3 Division as GOC 3 Division/ Commander Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) and Maj Gen PP Mala, who was posted from Depot Nigerian Army to Headquarters 7 Division as GOC/ Commander Sector 1 Joint Task North East( NE) Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK).

Others are Maj Gen GU Chibuisi from HQ Multinational Joint Task Force Ndjamena (MNJTF) to Theatre Command Joint Task Force NE Operation (OPHK) and appointed Theatre Commander, while Maj Gen IS Ali was redeployed from Theatre Command Joint Task Force NE OPHK to HQ MNJTF as the Force Commander and Maj Gen EAP Undiandeye whose redeployment from Martin Luther Agwai International Peace Keeping Centre to Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) as Chief of Defence Intelligence has been formalised.

Senior officers appointed as Corps Commanders include Maj Gen OO Oluyede as the Commander Infantry Corps, Maj Gen MG Kangye from Department of Civil Miltary Affairs(DCMA) to Headquarters Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery and appointed Commander. Others are Maj Gen AA Adeyinka from Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management (NACOLM) to Headquarters Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport and appointed Commander.

Other senior officers also affected in the redeployment are Maj General KO Aligbe who is appointed as Commander Training and Doctrine Command, Maj Gen JO Ochai, from Defence Headquarters to Nigerian Defence Academy( NDA) and appointed Commandant, Maj Gen IB Maina posted from Department of Policy and Plans to Army War College Nigeria and appointed Commandant.

Equally redeployed are Brig Gen TB Ugiagbe who is appointed Acting Chief of Military Intelligence (Army), Brig Gen OG Onubogu from Headquarters Infantry Corps Centre to Martin Luther Agwai International Peace Keeping Centre as Commandant, while Brig Gen N Ashinze moves from Department of Civil Military Cooperation to Defence Intelligence Agency as Director Fusion. The Nigerian Army has also formalised the redeployment of Col AO Onasanya from Army War College Nigeria to Headquarters Guards Brigade as Acting Commander.

The Chief of Army Staff has directed all newly appointed senior officers to redouble their effort and commitment to duty in ensuring the sustenance of the ongoing onslaught against terrorism, insurgency and other threats to national security, as they assume their new appointments.

AVM HB ABUBAKAR APPOINTED 22ND CHIEF OF THE AIR STAFF

Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Hassan Bala Abubakar has been appointed the 22nd Chief of the Air Staff by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Born on 11 September 1970, AVM Hassan Abubakar hails from Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State. He enlisted into the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) as a member of Nigerian Defence Academy Regular Course 39 and was commissioned Pilot Officer on 19 September 1992.

AVM Abubakar has attended several courses, among which are Ab-initio and Basic Flying Training Courses at the then 301 Flying Training School, Kaduna; Basic and Advance Airborne Courses at the Nigerian Army Infantry Centre and School, Jaji; and Company Amphibious Operations Course at the Nigerian Army Infantry Centre and School, Calabar. Others include Junior and Senior Command and Staff Courses at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji, and National Defence Course at the Nasser Higher Military Academy, Cairo, Egypt.

Previous appointments held by the CAS include Officer Commanding ‘B’ Squadron (Do 228), 81 Air Maritime Group NAF Benin; Team Leader MILOB Team Site 615 Mahagi (Ituri Brigade) United Nations Organisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC); and Aviation Planning Officer, MONUC Air Operations Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. He was Commanding Officer Base Services Wing 81 Air Maritime Group Benin, and later served at different times at the 88 Military Airlift Group, Ikeja, where he held various appointments, including Operations Officer Operational Conversion Unit, Operations Officer, Commanding Officer 21 Wing, and Group Safety Officer.

Furthermore, he was Fleet Operation Officer 011Presidential Air Fleet, and thereafter became the Commander of the Unit. His other appointments include Chief of Staff, Mobility Command, Yenagoa; Air Officer Commanding Logistics Command, Ikeja, as well as Director of Policy, and Director of Operations, both at the Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, Abuja. Until his appointment as the 22nd CAS, he was the Chief of Standards and Evaluations, Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, Abuja.

AVM Abubakar has earned several awards and decoration, some of which include Distinguished Service Star (DSS), Passed Staff Course (psc), and Fellow Defence College (fdc). He is a member of the National Institute of Management, Chartered Institute of Public Management, and Nigerian Institute of Safety Professional. The Chief holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological Science from NDA, and Master’s Degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the immediate retirement of all Service Chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police, Advisers, Comptroller-General of Customs from Service as well as their replacements with immediate effect.

Abia State Police Command Gets New PRO

A new Public Relations Officer (PRO) has been assigned by Abia State Police Command following the approval of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba.

Chinaka Chioma Maureen, a graduate of Law from Police Academy Kano, is an associate member of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (ANIPR), the outgoing PRO CSP Geoffrey Ogbonna announced in a statement.

Before her posting, she was the 2nd-in-command to CSP Ogbonna who has been redeployed for other professional policing duties in the command sequel.

The Executive Governor of Benue state, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia has announced the sack of all political appointees under the administration of his predecessor, Samuel Ortom.

The sack affects all those serving in the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

Alia ordered the fired political appointees to hand over to the most senior civil servants in their various offices.

The chief press secretary to the governor, Mr Tersoo Kula disclosed the development to pressmen at a briefing after an emergency meeting.

According to him, the governor’s decision follows discoveries that he made in the last three days since his inauguration.

Kula explained that his principal paid unscheduled visits to MDAs in the last three days and uncovered a lot of decay and inefficiency in the management of public utilities.

He noted that it was, for this reason, the governor decided to sack the affected persons.

It was also learnt that present at the meeting were the first five political appointees of the new administration, as well as top civil servants who are responsible for the payment and management of salaries and pension
