NIGERIAN ARMY RESCUES VICTIMS, ARRESTS SUSPECTS AND SEIZES WEAPONS IN MAJOR NATIONWIDE OPERATIONS
The Nigerian Army has recorded remarkable operational successes between 27 and 28 August 2025, neutralizing terrorists, arresting criminal suspects, rescuing kidnapped victims, and recovering arms, ammunition, and other contraband across multiple theatres of operation. These achievements highlight the Army’s sustained resolve to rid the nation of insecurity and restore peace to affected communities.
In the North East, troops of 151 Task Force Battalion intercepted a truck loaded with 142 bags of NPK fertilizer diverted from its approved destination, while 21 Brigade troops also seized another truck with 100 bags of fertilizer concealed among food items. Both cases, suspected to be supplies meant for terrorists, are under investigation. Similarly, troops of 112 Battalion discovered and safely detonated two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) along the Mafa–Ajiri road in Borno State, averting potential casualties.
In the North West, gallant troops of 8 Division Garrison rescued two kidnapped victims in separate operations in Sabon Birni and Isa LGAs of Sokoto State. During the engagements, troops also recovered one AK-47 rifle, three magazines, and ten rounds of ammunition. Meanwhile, troops of 1 Battalion, in collaboration with vigilantes in Kebbi State, arrested two suspected criminals at Ngaski, who have been handed over to the police.
Troops also recorded successes in the North Central region. In Niger State, soldiers of 22 Brigade repelled a violent extremists’ attack on Babanna, neutralizing one insurgent and recovering one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 60 rounds of ammunition, 323 rounds of 7.62mm x 54mm, and a mobile phone. In Nasarawa State, troops of Operation Whirl Stroke rescued a kidnapped victim in Keana LGA, arrested a suspected cattle rustler in Akwanga LGA, and recovered ₦3,200 and a machete.
In the South-South, troops intensified the fight against economic sabotage. Soldiers in Rivers State, working with NSCDC and Tantita Security operatives, uncovered two illegal refining sites containing an estimated 4,500 litres of stolen crude oil and 3,000 litres of illegally refined AGO. Similarly, in Omoku, troops intercepted a vehicle laden with 600 litres of illegally refined AGO, while in Delta State, soldiers of 181 Amphibious Battalion arrested eight suspects, including an impostor posing as a Lieutenant Colonel.
These coordinated operations also disrupted the movement of criminal logistics, curtailed illegal oil bunkering, and denied terrorists vital supplies needed to sustain their activities. Troops remain on high alert, continuing clearance patrols and community engagement across all operational theatres.
The Nigerian Army reassures Nigerians of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives, protecting national assets, and ensuring lasting peace across the country in line with the mandate of restoring security and supporting national development.
