AUGUST BORN LEGENDS CELEBRATES NEWBORN BABIES AT IQUITA GENERAL HOSPITAL.

As part of its commitment to humanitarian service and community development, August Born Legends on Saturday visited Iquita General Hospital, Oron Local Government Area, to celebrate with newborn babies and their mothers.

The outreach was led by the Founder of the group, Chief Edet Isong, who congratulated the families on the safe delivery of their babies and prayed for God's protection, good health, wisdom, and a bright future for every child.

The visit was attended by Mrs. Atim Akaiso, Mrs. Victoria (popularly known as Fantastic Joy), Little Miss Joy, and Kate Kponsi, who joined in presenting gifts and sharing words of encouragement with the mothers and hospital staff.

Speaking during the visit, Chief Edet Isong reaffirmed the group's dedication to promoting love, compassion, and service to humanity through meaningful community outreach programmes.

The event concluded with members of August Born Legends gathering for refreshments at Iso Idim Bar, where they reflected on the success of the outreach and renewed their commitment to touching more lives in the future.

ARISE FREE FOOD DISTRIBUTION: GOVERNOR UMO ENO’S COMPASSIONATE LEADERSHIP IN ACTION

At a time when the rising cost of living continues to place enormous pressure on families across Nigeria, every sincere intervention aimed at reducing hardship deserves recognition. Governor Umo Eno’s decision to sustain and expand the ARISE Free Food Distribution Programme across the 31 Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State is a commendable initiative that has brought hope and relief to thousands of vulnerable citizens.

The commencement of the fourth phase of the programme, with the distribution of 217,000 bags of rice and beans statewide, underscores the Governor’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people. Even more commendable is the increase in the allocation from 5,000 to 7,000 bags for each local government area, ensuring that more vulnerable households benefit from this timely intervention.

This is more than a food distribution exercise; it is a practical demonstration of compassionate, responsive, and people-oriented governance. It reflects an administration that understands the realities confronting ordinary citizens and is taking concrete steps to ease their burden.

With the current economic challenges facing the nation, many families struggle daily to afford basic necessities. SCHOOLCHILDREN, TEACHERS ABDUCTED IN OYO RESCUED

The schoolchildren and teachers who were abducted by suspected bandits in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have been rescued.

The victims were reportedly freed following coordinated efforts by security agencies, bringing relief to their families, the school community, and residents of the area.

Although details surrounding the rescue operation were still sketchy at the time of filing this report, security sources confirmed that all the kidnapped victims were successfully rescued.

The abduction had sparked widespread concern and renewed calls for improved security in schools and rural communities across the state.

Authorities are expected to provide further details on the circumstances of the rescue, including whether any arrests were made or if ransom was paid.

GOVERNOR UMO ENO: A LEADER WHO LEADS BY EXAMPLE

Leadership is best measured not by promises but by actions. In Akwa Ibom State, Governor Umo Bassey Eno has continued to demonstrate a leadership style built on peace, accountability, continuity, and selfless service to the people.

Since assuming office, Governor Umo Eno has worked tirelessly to promote peace and unity across the state. His inclusive approach to governance has created a stable political atmosphere where development, rather than division, remains the priority. His administration has consistently focused on delivering the dividends of democracy while fostering harmony among political leaders, stakeholders, and citizens.

One of the Governor’s outstanding qualities is his commitment to project monitoring. Unlike leaders who rely solely on reports from aides, Governor Umo Eno personally visits project sites to assess the quality and pace of work. During one of his inspection tours, he was mistakenly taken to the wrong location. Rather than accepting what he was shown, he immediately pointed out that it was not the actual project site and insisted on visiting the correct location. That singular act reflects a leader who knows his projects and is determined to ensure that public funds are properly utilised.

Governor Umo Eno also believes that contractors must be held accountable. Contractors who fail to meet expected standards or timelines are summoned and cautioned to improve their performance. This hands-on supervision has strengthened confidence in the ex*****on of government projects across the state and has reinforced his administration’s commitment to transparency, quality, and value for money.

Another admirable quality of the Governor is his respect for continuity in governance. He has made it clear that development belongs to the people, not to any individual administration. Rather than abandoning projects initiated by previous governments, he has consistently ensured that they are completed for the benefit of the people of Akwa Ibom. The completion and advancement of the Victor Attah International Airport stand as a shining example of his commitment to sustaining the developmental vision of past administrations while adding value through his own leadership.

The achievements of Governor Umo Eno are also evident at the grassroots. Under his leadership, Local Government Chairmen across the 31 Local Government Areas have recorded remarkable successes through the ex*****on of people-oriented projects. Today, communities are witnessing improved infrastructure, rural development, empowerment programmes, healthcare initiatives, educational support, and other interventions that are positively impacting lives. This demonstrates that the Governor’s development agenda is not limited to the state capital but extends to every part of Akwa Ibom State.

Governor Umo Eno has equally demonstrated political maturity by maintaining cordial relationships with former governors and former deputy governors of Akwa Ibom State. Rather than engaging in unnecessary political rivalry, he has chosen cooperation, mutual respect, and statesmanship. His excellent working relationship with his Deputy Governor has also become a model of teamwork and mutual respect in public service, contributing significantly to the stability and success of his administration.

No leader is 100 percent perfect. Governor Umo Eno is human, and like every leader, he has room for improvement. However, his sincerity of purpose, humility, accessibility, commitment to prudent project management, people-oriented policies, and passion for delivering the dividends of democracy deserve recognition and appreciation.

Constructive criticism is healthy in every democracy, but persistent insults, false narratives, and unnecessary distractions do little to advance the collective interest of the state. Akwa Ibom will achieve even greater progress when its people support good governance while offering constructive suggestions where improvements are needed.

Governor Umo Bassey Eno has shown that leadership is about service, accountability, continuity, compassion, and inclusiveness. Through the ARISE Agenda, he has continued to inspire confidence by ensuring that government projects are completed, public resources are prudently managed, and development reaches both urban and rural communities. His administration has demonstrated that good governance is not about politics alone but about improving the lives of the people.

As citizens, we have a collective responsibility to pray for our leaders, encourage them, and support every genuine effort aimed at moving Akwa Ibom State forward. Governor Umo Eno deserves our prayers, constructive support, and goodwill as he continues to build on the foundations laid by his predecessors while charting a greater future for the state.

Comfort FM Should Not Be Dragged Into Politics

The recent attempts to portray Comfort 95.1 FM, Uyo, as a political platform are unnecessary and misleading. A radio station exists to serve the public through information, education and entertainment, not to function as a political party or an instrument of partisan interests. Comfort FM should therefore be judged by its record of public service rather than by unfounded speculation.

Since its establishment almost a decade ago, the station has earned a reputation as one of Akwa Ibom State’s leading broadcast organisations. It has provided a platform for news, public affairs, cultural programmes and civic engagement, giving voice to diverse opinions while promoting responsible journalism. This is the role of an independent media institution in any democratic society.

It is also important to acknowledge the vision behind the establishment of the station. Senator Effiong Bob deserves commendation for investing in a media organisation that has contributed significantly to the development of broadcasting in Akwa Ibom State. Building and sustaining such an institution requires foresight, commitment and substantial investment. Rather than being criticised for creating opportunities, such initiatives should be appreciated.

Beyond its role in informing the public, Comfort FM has made a tangible contribution to the state’s economy by creating employment for hundreds of families over the years. Journalists, presenters, engineers, marketers, producers, technicians and administrative personnel have all benefited from the opportunities provided by the station. In a period when unemployment remains a major concern, institutions that generate jobs deserve encouragement, not unwarranted attacks.

The station has also brought honour to Akwa Ibom State through its achievements. The Guinness World Record attained in 2025 by its presenter, Mighty George, remains a source of pride, while numerous industry recognitions reflect the professionalism that has become associated with the organisation.

Those who seek to drag every private institution into political contests do a disservice to society. Democracy flourishes when the media is allowed to operate independently, holding all sides accountable while remaining focused on its professional responsibilities. The fact that Senator Effiong Bob chairs the station’s Board does not make Comfort FM a political organisation. Corporate governance and editorial management are separate responsibilities, and that distinction should be respected.

Public discourse should be guided by facts, fairness and responsibility. Institutions that promote knowledge, encourage dialogue and create employment should not become casualties of political rivalry. Comfort FM has consistently demonstrated its commitment to public service broadcasting and deserves to be assessed on the basis of its performance and contributions to society.

As citizens, we must support initiatives that create opportunities for our people, strengthen democratic values and contribute to the social and economic development of Akwa Ibom State. Comfort FM has done exactly that. It should therefore be allowed to continue its work as a professional media organisation, free from needless political labelling and partisan distractions.

The station’s greatest identity is not politics but service—service to the people through credible journalism, community development, employment creation and the promotion of informed public discourse. That is a legacy worth preserving.

AN APPEAL TO THE WOULD-BE DRIVERS OF THE NEW CNG BUSES

The introduction of the new CNG buses in Akwa Ibom State is a landmark achievement and a source of pride for all of us. This bold initiative by His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, is designed to reduce transportation costs, improve the welfare of the people, and create employment opportunities. I heartily congratulate the Governor and the good people of Akwa Ibom State on this historic milestone.

To the drivers who will be entrusted with these buses, I urge you to handle them with the utmost care, discipline, and sense of responsibility. These buses are not merely vehicles; they are valuable public assets and a symbol of the Governor’s commitment to the welfare of our people. The success of this programme, and indeed your own livelihood, depends greatly on how well you protect and maintain them.

Drive responsibly. Avoid reckless driving, keep the buses clean, and ensure they are properly maintained at all times. Remember that the well-being of your families and your continued employment are closely tied to the success and sustainability of this initiative.

I also appeal to the government and the relevant transport authorities to inscribe dedicated telephone numbers on every bus so that members of the public can easily report reckless driving, abuse, or misuse of these vehicles. Public participation and accountability will go a long way in ensuring that this laudable programme is protected, monitored, and sustained for the benefit of all.

Let us show our appreciation for this remarkable investment by safeguarding it. Together, we can make this initiative a lasting success and a model for public transportation in Akwa Ibom State.

SENATOR EFFIONG DICKSON BOB: A LEGACY BUILT ON INTEGRITY AND SELFLESS SERVICE

Senator Effiong Dickson Bob belongs to that distinguished class of public servants whose accomplishments speak more eloquently than self-promotion ever could. Throughout his remarkable career, he has demonstrated that true leadership is defined by integrity, competence, humility, and an unwavering commitment to the public good.

A distinguished lawyer, public administrator, legislator, and statesman, Senator Effiong Dickson Bob has devoted much of his life to the service of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria. He represented the Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District in the National Assembly from 2003 to 2011 on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Before his election to the Senate, he served with distinction as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of Akwa Ibom State, where he championed important judicial reforms that strengthened the administration of justice. He also served as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Benin, contributing meaningfully to the advancement of higher education in Nigeria. TRANSPORTATION: GOVERNOR UMO ENO’S VISION ROLLS FORWARD AS FIRST BATCH OF CNG BUSES ARRIVES

Akwa Ibom State has taken another bold step toward a modern, efficient, and environmentally friendly transportation system as Governor Pastor Umo Eno received the first batch of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses procured by his administration.

The arrival of the 20 buses, the first installment of the 50 ordered by the state government, underscores Governor Eno’s unwavering commitment to providing safe, affordable, and reliable transportation for residents across the 31 Local Government Areas.

While inspecting the buses, the Governor expressed delight at the progress of the project, describing it as another promise fulfilled under his administration’s ARISE Agenda. He commended the Ministry of Transport, the contractor, security agencies, and every stakeholder whose dedication ensured the successful delivery of the vehicles.

Governor Eno disclosed that the next phase of the project will include the completion of modern bus terminals, installation of vehicle tracking systems, and the introduction of an electronic ticketing platform to guarantee efficiency, transparency, and convenience for commuters.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving the quality of life for the people, the Governor noted that the state’s expanding network of quality roads has created the right foundation for a world-class mass transit system. According to him, the CNG buses represent not only a transportation upgrade but also a strategic investment in cleaner energy, economic growth, and sustainable development.
