Abejide vows to resist takeover of ADC leadership by Atiku, Mark-led coalition

African Democratic Congress (ADC) lawmaker, Leke Abejide, on Friday vowed to prove that he remains the “landlord” of the party.
Abejide, who represents Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency of Kogi State in the House of Representatives, said the ADC would resist attempts by the newly formed opposition coalition to take over its leadership.
He maintained that he was instrumental to the ADC’s current political relevance and warned that the coalition — comprising former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, David Mark, Rotimi Amaechi, Dino Melaye, and Babachir Lawal — would not be allowed to hijack the party without stiff resistance.
Speaking in an interview, the lawmaker argued that the recently concluded by-elections had exposed the weakness of the coalition, insisting its members would soon be expelled from the ADC.
He said: “You cannot come to somebody’s house, hijack his house, and you think that the person, no matter how stupid he is, will be looking at you.
“I will let them know that I am the landlord. I didn’t establish the party, but I am the one who made the party remain where it is today.”
Recently, Abejide vowed to wrest the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from the grip of Atiku Abubakar and the opposition coalition.
He argued that the takeover of the party’s leadership by the Mark-led coalition violated the ADC’s constitution.
The coalition, however, has already assumed control of the party ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
