~We picture and creatively see the final outcome.

~We set the dimensions and parameters.

~We imagine the effects of the styles and parameters when applied.

~We apply creativity while still trying to maintain industry standard.

~We bend to client demands even while they might not know the standards requirements because we must allow the two thrive

~We sleep late trying to figure it out when we seem to have hit the wall.

~We research and compare what should go in or out.

~We put the readers in consideration as much the clients wish_ like a woman trying to please both her husband and her children with same meal when they might be having different appetite.

~We are Publishers, and we go through a lot backend to furnish ideas, structure them, organise and bring them to life as a finished book.

~We go through a lot of pressure and demands to satisfy and make sure the owner (author), the consumer (readers) and the market (industry) is all happy and balanced.

𝗣𝗔𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗕𝗔𝗖𝗞 "𝗚𝗨𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗦" 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗔𝗠𝗔𝗭𝗢𝗡 𝗣𝗨𝗕𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚

Publishing high volume books is a different level on Amazon compared to low volume books. Talk about books going above 700-1000 pages, the requirements and specifications are on another level.

Late late year, I had an experience with such form of manuscript, and it was another ride of experience working on the publishing of such voluminous book, the manuscript gutter specification was one of the issue I have to deal with, resetting my formatting sizings to meet Amazon standard and specification after first rejection issue_ it was another great experience.

Remember, Amazon tolerates no inch of an error, especially when it comes to their print versions. Preparing and providing a manuscript that meets their requirements is one of the challenging job you can do, and I have seen lots of professionals in the industry testify to this as well.

I have seen lots of authors both locally and internationally stuck on different stages of their publishing journey when manuscript formatting/sizing problems hits them.

Their algorithm will never bend to your flaws till you have rightly done what they want, and that's where professionalism plays out. If you see any KDP manuscript formatter/layout, give them the regards.

If you check payment of such services on platforms such as Upwork will tell you how much work indeed it is.

📚 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗚𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗶𝘇𝗲𝘀

When it comes to setting the gutter size of your paperback manuscript during formatting and layout, especially for high volume manuscripts, one important factor you must get to know is that, Amazon has volume-specific sizes. This means, a certain range of book sizes has a particular gutter size that must be formatted.

Note that the gutter is different from your other margins (the outside margins), but this has to do with the effects of the spine width and how it affects the text inside when binding is done after printing process of the book.

The following are specific gutter sizes according to Amazon for layout in print publishing version.

These are as follows:

~0.375” for 24-150 pages
~0.5” for 151-300 pages
~0.625” for 301-500 pages
~0.75” for 501-700 pages
~0.875” for 701-828 pages

And remember, you'll need to ensure your document is set for the gutter to be on different sides for alternating pages. Otherwise, things will not turn out well. You can do this by setting Mirror Margins in your Custom Margins window only after you've already selected page size and determined the total number of pages in your book.

Aside the Inner (gutter) sizes, there are fixed sizes for bleed or no bleed option as well, then the outside margins having separate size specifications as well which I couldn't share right now; probably in my subsequent post I will.

I hope this helps someone in doing the right thing.

Those that questioned the authority of Jesus Christ and many that refused to believe in him wasn't because the evidence of His works and impacts were not visible, but because they knew His earthly origin: the father's house and how he was born.

He stayed in same environment and grew up, so they can't imagine Him growing up to portray himself as the Messiah.

They belittled and underrated whatever Signs He was making out there. Infact, they Him too common to carry that authority. And this made Jesus say "A prophet doesn't have honor in his own town".

Meanwhile, there were many from far who believed the signs and great works He was doing. They were able to tap into that grace and realm. Definitely, because they couldn't look at it from the place of the familiarity.

**Now, this is the message.**

Practically in life, environment can be a big hindrance to your growth and development. I bet you, even if you are selling long life and prosperity, there are people in your neighborhood who knew how you were born, they saw you play and all that, they'll never acknowledge or attest to the present person you've grown to.

They can't take out their money to pay for your value due to the underrating factor. They can't allow you spread your wings or give you that honor and regard according to that capacity simply because they know your origin and your former person.

But take same value to a stranger or an environment where no one cares to know where you are from or how you grew up, they will first acknowledge the value and impact you carry, your capacity and works of value is what matters to them even before they decide to know you on personal level.

They won't hesitate to pay even more for your value and impact without questioning your authority compared to your native neighborhood who will always ask how and when you knew how to do this thing you're asking them to regard you for it or even pay.

That's why, there are certain heights we can't achieve around people that doesn't recognize our capacity or vision.

It will become even much harder to get any support or contribution from such environment as they are rather belittling you just like Jesus Christ and His ministry.

Environment matters in your journey to the promise land. Avoid any toxic environment and know when to move.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗙𝗟𝗘𝗫 𝗖𝗨𝗧 𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞𝗦

In my last post about Print book sizes, I promised to talk on limitations of choice and flex to consider regarding your book such as:

🔸Your book genre

🔸Your manuscript initial volume

🔸Category of your book reading audience (age bracket), and...

🔸The international standard market, in deciding the papersize (LAYOUT) of your manuscript during formatting and preparations.

While the digital publishing sphere give authors the flex, the hardcopy publishing limit the flex due to the following:

📚 COST OF CHOICE

With the current spike in cost, a book with size A5 will definitely cost way lower than a book going with the A4 or B5 size for Hardcopy Printing.

Just like the cost of building a 4-bedroom bungalow is far higher than building a 2-bedroom. That's how book sizes are economical in the publishing industry.

The choice of the author might be influenced greatly by cost over the other factors such as market standard or audience.

The decision might not be likely, but some authors are forced to bend to it_ to cut cost. A really devastating cut in flex for both the author and the publisher.

Because, every book according to genre and category is subjected to obeying the standards of the industry.

But...

As I publisher working on any book print process, I do make sure crucial factors such as, book audience (age bracket) and content structuring are vividly considered amidst all attempts to cut cost, because the look of the content after internal formatting, design and layout is the bedrock of a book when it's published, and influences the reading experience.

Coaches are one of the most generous set of people you can find.

I consider them good willing individuals. Because I can imagine if they decide to hoard that knowledge and experience to themselves, they could be doing their thing and earning from it without noise, but many still choose to share and give it out.

That's why when I see people saying coaches survive from registration fee of a course, I smile and marvel at their kind of reasoning pattern.

Maybe yes! For those who doesn't know the application and monetization aspect of their skills before they decide to teach others.

Last time I checked, many coaches teaches you from knowledge and experience of what's already paying them. it's an error to even coach without practical earning principles or experience.

For example...,

My knowledge and experience regarding Upwork Freelancing is something I never planned on teaching or coaching through any course. I setup my account, verified it, landed good paid foreign client. All the knowledge, skills and experience_ I planned I was going to keep it for self consumption.

But on a second thought, I know a lot of skilled individuals need the benefits of my knowledge and experience, I couldn't resist the call when one of the great coach @ Stella (Sasha writes) reached out to me for a partnership to train her students on how to maximize the platform to sell their skills to high paid clients.

I used two weeks to train them directly out of my knowledge and experience early January 2025. And just last week, I was still invited as well to train a group of students by one of the amazing coach @ Mr Emmanuel (the value king) on how to maximize Upwork for selling their skills, which is a great privilege to offer solution against the problem of job hunting by skilled freelancers.

To even ease the learning stress of many interested persons, I made practical video courses to show them success steps and guides to also setting up and winning jobs on the platform.

Now imagine the scenario I decided to hoard this knowledge? Definitely it will only be beneficial to me and I have nothing to lose.

So, next time you see any coache as someone only surviving on a course, think about this.

The place of impact, the place of favour and goodwill by the coache to share his knowledge and experience. The learner is the beneficial person and the coach have nothing to lose.

You only pay them for their time, resources and energy. Because you can't even pay for their knowledge_ it's priceless.

Successfully Published a book that was officially blocked (Ebook and Paperback) by Amazon, plus failed appeal.
