Troops Neutralise 10 ISWAP Terrorists, Recover Weapons In Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed 10 fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) and recovered several weapons during a successful night ambush along the Gamboru–Dikwa–Marte axis of Borno State.

The operation, according to the military, came shortly after another encounter in which over 50 insurgents were neutralised around the Katarko axis.

Lt.-Col. Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Maiduguri.

He explained that troops under Sector 1, 24 Task Force Brigade, carried out a well-planned ambush that stopped a terrorist infiltration attempt from the Flatari axis into Gamboru Ngala.

“After suffering heavy casualties, the insurgents diverted towards Dikwa but were intercepted again and neutralised in the Dikwa–Marte general area,” Uba said.

He added that the troops engaged the terrorists around 11:50 p.m. on October 25, after spotting their movement. “The unit delivered heavy and accurate fire, forcing the insurgents to flee in confusion,” he said.

Gas Explosion Destroys Several Shops In Lagos

A gas explosion on Sunday ripped through a section of the Orisunmibare Market, off Baale Street in the Orile-Iganmu area of Lagos State, destroying several shops.

The fire, which did not claim any lives, erupted around 2:13 p.m., razing goods worth several millions of naira and sending traders and residents running for safety.

The explosion was said to have originated from a gas retail outlet reportedly housing multiple cylinders of varying sizes.

The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs Margaret Adeseye, while confirming the incident, said operatives responded promptly and brought the situation under control.

No lives were lost, except for one person who sustained a minor hand injury,” she said.

In another development, a team of firefighters responded to a 33,000-litre petrol tanker accident along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, near the Berger Car Depot.

The tanker reportedly spilled its contents after colliding with a Mercedes-Benz Jeep and seven other stationary vehicles displayed for sale.

Olowookere’s side booked a spot in the Round of 16 at the ongoing 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after a comfortable 4-0 victory over Samoa on Saturday.

The Flamingos qualified as one of the best third-placed teams.

Italy won all three group games and are favourites to win the game.

The gaffer claimed facing a tough opposition will be a good test for his team.

It’s good that we have strong opposition, to prepare us for the next game. We have to work on those areas where they were able to pe*****te from our team,” he was quoted by FIFA.com.

Mascot Uzor Kalu: A Leader Defined By Vision, Not Bloodline |

Leadership remains timeless. It should not be about where one comes from, but about what one carries inside. Just as Westerhof built a winning team by looking beyond tribe and background, Abians must look beyond family ties and surnames to assess the capacity, experience, and sincerity of each candidate.

Sir Mascot Uzor Kalu is not his brother; he is his own man, with his own journey, ideas, and leadership philosophy. He has served in various capacities, including as Chief of Staff to the Abia State Government, demonstrating administrative competence, youthfulness, and inclusivity. His aspiration is born not out of entitlement but from a genuine desire to consolidate and improve upon the gains already made in Abia, while correcting what needs to be improved.

Therefore, it would be unfair and intellectually shallow to judge Mascot Uzor Kalu through the lens of his elder brother’s past tenure. Just as every child in a family is different, every leader brings a distinct approach to governance. Democracy thrives when the people evaluate candidates based on vision, competence, and character—not bloodline or assumptions.

Rt. Hon. Barr. Jonathan Chukwuma, former Deputy Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, writes from Atlanta, Georgia, USA. All glory to the Most High. 🙏
