Fans are now reflecting on the old debates from back in the day when many people used to argue that 9ice was bigger than Flavour. However, with recent developments, they say they can no longer hold on to that claim—now insisting that Flavour is way bigger than 9ice.
This follows the announcement that Flavour’s hit “Nwa Baby (Ashawo Remix)” was ranked #3 on Billboard’s list of the ‘Best Afrobeats Songs of All Time’, while 9ice’s classic “Gongo Aso” took the #12 spot—a very big gap between the two.
Reports says that Flavour is generally considered the more impactful and bigger artist compared to 9ice, particularly in terms of global recognition and consistent success. While 9ice made a huge mark with his debut album and the massive hit “Gongo Aso”, Flavour has managed to sustain his relevance over the years, building a broader fanbase and enjoying a stronger international presence.
It’s also hard to deny that 9ice’s career has been on and off, whereas Flavour has remained consistent. This consistency, combined with his global appeal, is what many point to when arguing that Flavour has surpassed 9ice.
Fans are even comparing this situation to other debates in Afrobeats—such as Rema vs Olamide or even Olamide vs Davido. The argument goes that while Olamide is only big in Nigeria, his recognition is more local compared to Davido or Rema, who are both considered global artists.
No matter how influential Olamide is at home, he’s still not regarded as bigger than Davido at home plus the fact that he isn’t a global artist. And this, they say, is the same dynamic between Flavour and 9ice.
Do you agree Flavour is BIGGER than 9ice❓
Also is Olamide not yet global a artist❓
