NAF STRIKES JAS HIDEOUTS, DISRUPTS LOGISTICS CHAIN AND NEUTRALISES SCORES OF TERRORISTS*

In a major blow to insurgent networks in Nigeria’s North-East, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), launched precision air strikes on 6 July 2025 against key terrorist strongholds nestled in the Mandara Mountains, located in Borno State. The high-profile targets, Wa Jahode and Loghpere, have long served as fortified enclaves for the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) faction of Boko Haram. The locations, known for their rugged, mountain-covered terrain along Nigeria’s border with Cameroon, had recently witnessed increased terrorist activity, including reports of a logistics build-up and the presence of senior JAS Commanders.

The strikes followed confirmatory Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance missions revealing clusters of structures fitted with solar panels, black flags, and fortified compounds, clear signs of insurgent resurgence and preparations for coordinated attacks. In response, NAF strike aircraft executed a series of well-coordinated air interdictions, targeting and destroying high-value terrorist infrastructure including logistics warehouses, command centres, and defensive shelters. Several terrorists were neutralised in the operation, effectively disrupting their supply chain and diminishing their capability to sustain further offensives. The Nigerian Air Force remains resolute to sustain the ongoing onslaught against terrorists and restore lasting peace to all troubled regions across the Country.

Nigerian Air Force Engineers Achieve Historic Feat, Revive Aircraft Grounded for 23 Years

In a stunning display of engineering prowess, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully reactivated a Dornier DO-228 aircraft that had been grounded for an astonishing 23 years. This remarkable achievement underscores the NAF's growing capacity for indigenous maintenance, bolstering its operational readiness and contributing to Nigeria's aviation capabilities.

The aircraft, originally designated "5N-MPS," had been grounded at the DANA facility in Kaduna since 2001. However, following a Presidential Directive, the NAF embarked on a project to revive the aircraft, redesignated "NAF-039." A team of five engineering officers and 40 technicians from the NAF 431 Engineering Group worked tirelessly between June and September 2024 to bring the aircraft back to life.

The successful reactivation of NAF-039 demonstrates the NAF's growing technical expertise and resolute determination. According to Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff, "The successful reactivation of NAF 039 is not just an operational gain; it is a statement of our capabilities and our commitment to self-reliance".

This achievement carries significant strategic implications, enhancing the NAF's fleet and symbolizing its resolve to achieve self-reliance in aviation maintenance. It also serves as a morale booster for NAF engineers and technicians, showcasing their ability to undertake complex projects that would otherwise be outsourced to foreign entities.

The reactivation of NAF-039 builds upon the NAF's earlier successes, including the first in-country 4,800-hour inspection on another DO-228 aircraft in January 2024. These milestones highlight the NAF's growing capacity for advanced in-house aircraft maintenance, paving the way for future projects aimed at achieving technical autonomy.

The newly reactivated aircraft will bolster the NAF's tactical airlift capabilities, joining the fleet of DO 228 aircraft still actively used worldwide. This achievement solidifies the NAF's position as a formidable player in Africa's aviation sector, with the potential to lead in indigenous maintenance and technical innovation.
