Nasir Bazza and How Not To Be A Critic!

"Any fool can criticize, condemn, and complain but it takes character and self-control to be understanding and forgiving." - Dale Carnegie

Criticism is defined as a serious examination and judgement of something or disapproval expressed by pointing out faults or shortcomings. A critic is a person who is professionally engaged in analysis and interpretations or anyone who expresses a reasoned judgement of something. Nasir Bazza or Hon Naseer Bazza as he is popularly known has enacted the name government critic to himself.

Personally, I believe a critic should be creative in his engagement; vet, revet and revet any information at hand before going to the media; intelligent enough for constructive criticism, and above all be ready for the backlash from people in whom he has a different view with.

The story of Nasir Bazza is like that of an unripe mango: eatable at its current stage but taste better when allowed to ripe proper. His rising popularity within the Sokoto Social Media community made him believe he has arrived as a Facebook overlord who controls and influences his followers and friends on the platform; That made him start looking for stories that will keep him relevant and appease to his followers.

My first encounter with his post was when in March last year, a friend called me when I was in London to jokingly query why I didn't include his name in the government delegation that travelled to the United Kingdom for Najib Tambuwal's graduation. Surprised, I asked what he meant by that, and he refers me to Bazza's post where he lied that over 58 people were sponsored by the State government to attend the governor's son graduation. I made it clear to him (my friend) that I wasn't in the UK as a government delegate; it was just a coincidence that his graduation falls few weeks to mine and so I decided to travel early in order to attend. I further made it clear to him that all the people I saw at that graduation weren't up to ten (10).

On Wednesday, something happened that amazed me with Bazza. I came across a post he did title “Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal : A Presidential or Gobernatorial (sic) Candidate In 2019." but upon reading, I realized it was the same thing the current DG of National Broadcasting Commission, Ishaq Modibbo Kawu wrote over 3 years ago to celebrate with Tambuwal on his turbaning as Matawallen Sakkwato. I commented to the post informing him about the origin of the post and advising him to shun plagiarism, instead of him to thank me for such good act, he deleted my comment, poked me twice and went ahead to block me from further accessing his profile or view his posts. I wonder what he will have done to me if he has access to authority that can enable him to get me arrested. I wonder what sort of a critic fears criticism and confrontation. This is someone who finds a way (at least once in a week) to criticise the state governor, his commissioners, and other appointees but couldn't withstand a simple comment. Bazza's case made me agree with Shannon Aider quote that "When dealing with critics always remember this: Critics judge things based on what is outside of their content of understanding."

For the record, this isn't the first time he is plagiarizing people's post and articles. Recently, on January 21st he did a post titled "Today in Sokoto" which was mostly excerpts from Aminu Muhammad's article written in July 2017; last year December, he copied Imam's Golden Garlands to Tambuwal at 50 as his pre-birthday wish for His Excellency. on November 5th, 2017, he wrote an article to celebrate my brother and Friend Dalhatu (Abba) Waziri but unfortunately, the long essay is a copied combination of IImam Imams Saltue to Chivalry as Speaker clocks 44, a birthday tribute to then Speaker Tambuwal in 2012 and Bishop Kukah's new year message for Nigerians in 2017. I can go on and on to bring out the fraud in his self-acclaimed critic but there is always another day.

From my engagement with Bazza, I know for sure a lot of people (including him) would have been in Jail today if he was in Gov Tambuwal's position because he doesn't have the patient and leadership skill to tolerate criticism and point-blank advice like I did to him. But Gov. Tambuwal is a complete gentleman who believes in critics as Benjamin Franklin said: "Critics are our friends, they show us our faults." While I'm not discouraging him from doing what he wants, I advise him to trade careful and avoid getting himself into trouble.

The barrage of bile against Tambuwal

By Saifullahi Abubakar

It is normal for a public figure, a successful one for that matter, to attract occasional sneer, derision or outright envy. But it is abnormal when such a thing is turned into an organised mob of muckrakers with a mandate to smear the target personality by every available spit they could get. This is the case with an on-going mudslinging against Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, using the free passage of all garbage offered by the handy social media.

A recent example of such trashy offerings; one that went viral on account of the key words deliberately used to attract curious readers and to easily smear is titled “Tambuwal and the politics of Buhari’s illness,” penned under an obvious pseudonym of Mamman Abdullahi. The mudslingers got a lot of people there: Tambuwal, politics and the ill health of President Muhammadu Buhari. Ordinarily, people would want to find out what links a respected personality like Governor Tambuwal with the health condition of the president and, more still, the alleged politics of it.

However, from the very first sentence of the piece, the emotion of the hatched men is laid bare. The intent, as the opening line crudely puts it, is to paint Tambuwal’s 30 years of public life as one characterised by “betrayals and treachery”. The rest of the malignant article rode along this line. Lies upon lies are lined up; spun from contemporaneous events and purported historical antecedents of Tambuwal to paint him – as the agenda setting first line puts it – a betrayer and treacherous person.

The instinct initially was to laugh this off and move on, as one of those things politicians often encounter. However, on a second thought one is tempted to put out a response because the professional liar who authored the faceless hogwash presented tissues of lies in a way that may look factual to unsuspecting public who knows not.

First, let me say that I am an innocent bystander in this issue. I am intervening because I knowledgeable enough about most of the issues raised in the initial article. I am not holding brief for Tambuwal, and the fact that he knows nothing about this work gives me the pleasure to state what I know without inhibitions or guidance from him. The said article stands on no factual ground. It is sheer concoctions. At best, it is not more than a spectacular fictional narrative skewed together by a fertile mind with agenda for grave mischief. To accuse Tambuwal of selling himself to be appointed as vice president – a vacancy that does not exist, is not only funny but a clear assault on truth, and on the man’s personality and intelligence. In truth, chasing shadows (which is what vying for a non-existent post is) is the least thing that can be inferred in Tambuwal’s dealings as a public servant.

Additionally, from the searchlight some of us have kept on him over the years, Tambuwal is a man of faith with a strong sense of gratitude to the almighty who elevated him from being a legislative aide to first, Nigeria’s Number Four position, and now the first citizen of his state. This has never been lost on the Tambuwal that I know. For him, and all people of faith, chasing after another thing when you are not half-way into what God almighty blessed you with is some mark of ingratitude. For emphasis, Tambuwal has never had divided attention since assuming the position of the Governor of Sokoto State. He has executed his mandate in such a way that today, midway into his first term of four years, the consensus in Sokoto is for him to carry on for additional term.

It should also be stated that as someone who has been actively involved in politics since the beginning of this dispensation, Tambuwal has developed extensive network of friends, associates and admirers, so it is foolish and mischievous for any of his engagements with such associates to be interpreted in any narrow manner. From his time in the National Assembly, it is clearly evident that it is in his nature not to abandon his friends because of the trappings of power.

Will Tambuwal work to undermine Buhari? Certainly not! Recently, a story of Tambuwal’s 2012 visit to the then opposition leader, Buhari in Kaduna was shared online. That year, Buhari had returned from a medical trip and Tambuwal, as Speaker, led some of his colleagues to Buhari’s house for a sympathy visit. Not a few in the Green Chamber, especially those of the ruling party, raised eyebrows at the visit. Their thinking was that as a member of the PDP, Tambuwal should not be seen publicly hobnobbing with Buhari. But Tambuwal stood his ground and insisted that politics aside, Buhari, being a former Head of State, deserved respect and recognition.

As if sensing the little controversy the visit would elicit, Buhari asked Tambuwal why he wasn't afraid to visit with a full compliments of reporters. "We're here to see how you are feeling and to pray to Allah for bringing you back home safely," the Speaker told him. At the end of the visit, Buhari thanked Tambuwal profusely; saying for identifying with him when it was risky to do that, Tambuwal had shown genuine concern for his well-being. He also prayed for him as he departed.

I brought this issue to show the bond, and respect between the two leaders.

While the writer and his sponsors ignorantly dropped the name of Abubakar Shehu Tambuwal in a bid to deceive the readers, we were all living witnesses to Shehu’s directive to his supporters to support the candidature of Tambuwal during the last electioneering campaigns in Sokoto even though they don’t belong to the same parties. If Abubakar Shehu Tambuwal has issues with Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, would he have supported him against his party in 2015?

Tambuwal’s brand of politics is one that embraces friends and foes alike. It is in public domain that the current Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, was one of the staunchest opponents of Tambuwal when he aspired to lead the lower legislative House in the year 2011. But immediately he won the election, Tambuwal made Dogara the chairman of the all-important House Services Committee. His opponent in that election, Mulikat Adeola-Akande, was made the Majority Leader, the first time a Female would hold such an important position in the country.

Do I need to remind us of Tambuwal’s relationship with former President Olusegun Obasanjo? After kicking against against Tambuwal’s emergence as Speaker, Obasanjo eventually became one of Tambuwal’s mentors and he had this to say a few days ago in Abeokuta: “Mr Governor, I would apologize that I am going to embarrass you small. When you emerged as the Speaker (in 2011), you know I was not satisfied; because that was not the arrangement of the then PDP. It was the former administration and the then leadership that did that and I expressed my view. When you came to me, I told you that you were not the problem, but the party then. I told you that I am pleased by the reports I got of you as the speaker, and again I am still getting good report of you in your state. You are one of the examples of the youth that have been doing well in politics.”

One person who cherishes Tambuwal’s political dexterity is the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu. Despite the seeming differences of opinion following the election of principal officers of the National Assembly last year, Tinubu had this to say about Tambuwal when he visited Sokoto for an event at Usmanu Danfodio University: “Governor Aminu Tambuwal represents the new hope of a new progressive political era. The people of Sokoto made a good choice in electing him governor. A man of and for the people and a true patriot, his commitment to advance the welfare of the people is remarkable. We must support him in his mission to bring greater development and prosperity to Sokoto for the benefit of all of her people.”

Adjudging Tambuwal as a betrayer because of changing political allegiances is a mark of political ignorance and dishonesty on the part of the mudslingers. Politics is opportunity and all politicians vie for opportunity to serve and to work with like-minds. If a platform or political alliance looses focus, is collapsing or no longer viable, it is unwise to wait for the roof to collapse on one’s head. President Muhammadu Buhari, for example, moved from the ANPP when it was obvious he was being frustrated internally, to form the CPC. And when CPC proved impotent as a political machinery to achieve his ambition for the nation, he collapsed into the alliance that formed the APC. There is nothing wrong with such moves.

Also, such political steps are sometimes taken out of patriotism as exemplified in the 2014 mass action against the unpatriotic PDP regime, in which Tambuwal incidentally played a prominent role to the admiration of vast majority of Nigerians.

One is entitled to disagree or even hate Governor Tambuwal for whatever personal reason, but the allegations labeled against him is almost the zenith such malicious undertaking could attain. It is not just because Tambuwal’s name is smeared but also because of the dangerous namedropping and dragging of the names of very important and responsible personalities just to achieve the sinister aim of portraying Tambuwal – who from all indications, is minding his business – in a very bad light.

Adeleke: We have lost a colossus - Dogara

Sen Adeleke was a distinguished gentleman

Hon. Yakubu Dogara, Speaker of the House of Representatives, has described the sudden death of Senator Isiaka Adeleke as shocking and a huge loss to the country.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media & Public Affairs, Turaki Hassan, the Speaker said he received with shock, the news of sudden death of Senator Adeleke and said the former Osun State Governor was a distinguished gentleman.

"Senator Adeleke was a leader who left giant footprints and lasting legacies as the first civilian governor of Osun State," he stated.

Dogara also recalled that the late senator was credited for establishing tertiary educational institutions across Osun State when he was governor in the third republic, thereby laying the foundation for the development of the State.

"On behalf of all members of the House of Representatives, I condole with the Adeleke family, the Senate, government and people of Osun State over this big loss," Dogara added.

..Says late business mogul was a father for all

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, on Friday, led a delegation of members of the House of Representatives on a condolence visit to the family of the late Alhaji Ahmadu Chanchangi in Kaduna.

The renowned businessman and philanthropist passed away on Wednesday.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Turaki Hassan, the speaker extolled the virtues of the late businessman, describing him as a great father who left a good legacy for his children and the society.

"I can describe him as a great man who did not inherit success himself but turned his life into a success story", the Speaker said.

"He was a father, a legend and one of the brightest stars who shone in the circle of business in this part of the country."

The Speaker, who prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased, counselled the children he left behind to imbibe and replicate the good virtues he exhibited while alive.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family in this moment of grief. As the saying goes, a snake doesn't give birth to a short thing, so my advice is for the sons and daughters he left behind to always remember their heritage, what their father lived for and believed in and replicate same; this is the only way they can keep his memory alive."

Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal
has advised Nigerians to ensure that
politicians who understand the place of
religion in solving national problems are
voted into power.
He attributed ethnicity and religious
intolerance to the recurrence of ethno-
religious conflicts in the country.
The former House of Representatives
Speaker spoke yesterday on “Religious
Tolerance and Challenges of Democratic
Governance” at the fourth and fifth
convocation of the Fountain University,
Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General
of the Nigeria Supreme Council For Islamic
Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar
III, was conferred with the honorary doctor
of Political Economy.
Also, former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola
was conferred with honorary doctor of
Science in Public Administration.
Tambuwal said appointment of public office
holders, who recognise religion as a
veritable tool for peace, progress and
sustainable development, could solve the
national problems, insecurity and
corruption.
According to him: “ The soaring tides of
poverty, unemployment, ethno-religious
crisis, poor infrastructure, environmental
hazards, insecurity and particularly bad
leadership have converged to deny the
country the potential to reach the
benchmark of development in the 21st
Century.
“Mismanagement of natural resources and
misrule by the elite from all divides are also
factors that have impoverished and denied
majority of Nigerians great opportunities.
“Since Independence, religious and ethnic
rhetoric have leveraged claims to political
representation and opportunities. Corruption
and incompetent leadership have added
another dimension to the ugly phenomena.
“The nation, therefore, needs to evolve a
system of leadership selection and
accountability, which produces the sort of
leaders that would confront the challenges
associated with our history, socio-economic
inequality, and building viable institutions
for democracy and good governance.
“In essence, politicians, public officials and
political office holders must be those who
are not necessarily detached from religion,
but who have the understanding that
religion is in itself a tool for peace, progress
and sustainable development.”
The Sultan enjoined Muslims to strive to
acquire knowledge and understanding of
others as a way of fostering peaceful
coexistence in the nation.

WIKE'S COMMISSION OF INQUIRY A RUSE
FOR VENDETTA DOOMED TO FAIL..Bribes NYSC with crocodile tears, increase
in allowances
The Rivers State chapter of All Progressives
Congress, APC, has taken notice of the
pronouncement by the Rivers State Governor,
Nyesom Wike that he has set up a Judicial
Commission of Inquiry to investigate the
violence and killings that occurred during the
March 19, rerun legislative elections in the
state. The APC condemns this action as it is
self-serving and a mere smokescreen by the
governor to rubbish his political opponents
and divert attention from the violence and
deaths he planted, nurtured and carried out
during the Rivers State rerun elections.
The APC recalls that following the killings
associated with the 2015 electoral violence in
Rivers State in 2015, the then governor of
Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi
Amaechi set up the Prof Chidi Odinkalu
Commission to unravel the issues behind the
killings. Nyesom Wike and the PDP swiftly
filed suit No. FHC/PHC/256/2015 at a Port
Harcourt against the sitting of that
Commission. One of the arguments by the
PDP and Nyesom Wike was that the former
governor was an interested party in what
happened during the elections and therefore
should not have set up the panel.
This time, Gov. Nyesom Wike is on record for
having threatened violence and death to
stakeholders long before and even during the
rerun elections. There is no doubt that the
several threats Nyseom Wike issued to his
supporters and associates gave rise to the
widespread and wanton killings by the PDP
and their acolytes. Therefore, where lies the
enabling neutrality and moral high ground for
Gov. Nyesom Wike to set up a commission of
inquiry to investigate a matter in which he is
the mastermind-in-chief?
The APC wishes to inform Gov. Nyesom Wike
to consider the matter of the commission a
total waste of time and resources, and dead
on arrival. Taking a look at the members of the
commission, the APC would like to advise
Gov. Wike to look for a more honest means of
compensating his supporters and their
relations rather than sending them on a
journey to nowhere or one that will suffer a
still-birth.
Wike’s crocodile tears for the NYSC
The APC finds the attempts by Gov. Nyesom
Wike to showcase himself as a friend of the
NYSC following the killing of an NYSC
member who served as an INEC ad-hoc staff,
Okonta Samuel, with call-up number
RV/15B/5539, and the increase of Corpers’
allowances announced by the governor as
dim-witted actions aimed at bribing Youth
Corp members for the suspended rerun
elections not necessarily for the love of NYSC
members.
It is shocking that after Gov Wike created the
atmosphere that led to the death of late
Okonta Samuel, the governor has since
embarked on shameless actions meant to
deceive Corp members and other Nigerians.
As an INEC ad-hoc staff, late Samuel Okonta
and his colleagues were asked by Nyesom
Wike to write their will because they might be
killed during the rerun elections. After Wike’s
threat materialised, it was shocking to see the
governor rush to sign the condolence register
of late Samuel Okonta. By signing the
condolence register, the APC believes that
Gov. Wike actually countersigned the will
written by late Okonta on the advice of the
governor.
Not done with his familiar ego trip in political
opportunism, Gov. Wike announced that the
Rivers State Government will immortalise the
dead Corp member. However, the APC wishes
to advise Nyesom Wike that members of the
NYSC and others who function as INEC ad-
hoc and permanent staff would prefer to
remain alive than to be sent to their early
graves and later immortalised by Nyesom Wike
and his government. No amount of monetary
inducements and mundane accolades is worth
the death of anyone under any circumstances.
