The level of ignorance and disdain some of our people show towards their own tradition and culture is truly an eyesore. Look at this person’s thought process: you want to tell the story of your forefathers, yet you believe you can do so without showcasing the integral parts of their lifestyle. Before the colonialists came, I make bold to say that the foundations of our ancestors’ lives were Òrìṣà appeasement, ìṣègùn(herbalism), and Ifá bíbọ.

Incantations sound diabolical to him, but I’m certain he would have a positive opinion if it were a pastor speaking in tongues.

Fear has always been a major tool of control for these false prophets. They understand how gullible many Nigerians can be, and they exploit it to the fullest. Now that the “Anobi cow” fallacy has been exposed, a logical mind should begin to ask: How many more lies have we been fed by these people? Does their imaginary hellfire even exist?

Interesting times ahead.

May Ifá guide us.

In as much as one person’s evil deed cannot define an entire community, I strongly believe more Onísẹ̀ṣes must stand up and collectively condemn the actions of the few bad eggs among us. The man known as Abere Ifa, who is reportedly involved in the ritual killing that claimed the life of an FRSC woman and her child, was said to have been appearing on TikTok Live, brandishing afose and other items. Pictures have also surfaced of him participating in Ifá initiations with people.

We have many of such characters on social media today, individuals who go on TikTok to sell false hopes and deceive the public. Unfortunately, many people already have negative assumptions about us Onísẹ̀ṣes. So when these bad eggs commit atrocities, it places all of us in a difficult position. Law enforcement agents then find it easy to profile and harass innocent practitioners due to stereotypes. Religious bigots, who already dislike Isese, take such incidents as justification to label all Onísẹ̀ṣes as ritualists. And a government that barely acknowledges us will continue to see us as primitive and destructive.

When issues like this arise, we need our thought leaders, influencers, and especially bodies like ICIR and ICIOS to speak up, condemn these individuals, and dissociate Isese from their crimes. Speaking up may seem insignificant, but when push comes to shove, the government will ask whether our regulatory bodies responded. Considering that we have been clamoring for acceptance and equal rights, these are the moments they will use to judge us.

May Ifá lead us through

There’s an ongoing discourse on Twitter about the Nigerian Army logo, particularly the meaning behind the eagle and the Arabic inscription. The inscription is said to translate to “All victory comes from Allah,” while the eagle is reportedly symbolic of Christianity. Two foreign religions are represented on the armed forces; what insignia does the indigenous faith have on the logo? None. It partly explains why this country is the way it is, but that’s not even the point. Yet again, Onísẹ̀ṣe and traditionalists are completely sidelined, as though we do not exist in this country.

As I’ve always said, the more we keep presenting Ìṣẹ̀ṣe merely as spirituality rather than a system of thought and identity, the easier it becomes for others to overlook us. And the more we continue to see Western education as brainwashing instead of a tool for liberation, the longer our retrogression will persist.

We need more Onísẹ̀ṣe in politics, in professional spaces, and in decision-making positions. That is the only way we can change the trajectory of our community for good.

Kí a tó mọ dá, kí a tó mọ kí.

"The mastery of Ifá corpus is one of the most challenging aspects of learning, before understanding divination or chants."

Ifá teaches that mastery requires patience, focus, and consistent dedication. Whatever path one chooses, be it spiritual, professional, or creative. true excellence comes only through continuous learning and practice.

Too often, people desire success without paying the necessary dues, wishing to reap where they have not sown. But Ifá reminds us that growth takes time, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to one’s craft.

Be loyal to your Oluwo or Baba Awo. However, if you find that your spiritual goals are not being met, I’d advise you to let Ori guide you to your own Aláwo Irẹ (spiritual match). Still, be certain that you are not the problem, jumping from one Oluwo to another will not solve anything if you’re not truly following the path that Ifá or Ori has laid out for you.

I’m not one for conspiracy theories, but it feels like Ifa is fighting for us in its own way. Islamists, some of our strongest critics, are now facing backlash from the U.S. Talk about the irunmole outsourcing our battles.

I’ve noticed some people trying to separate Yoruba culture from Iborisa, claiming that Orisa appeasements aren’t part of our culture. How misguided can that be? Iborisa is the root of much of what we proudly showcase today, from the a*o oke you wear so elegantly, to many of the beautiful Yoruba attires that define our identity. If you think otherwise, show me the verse in the Bible or Quran where gele, a*o oke, or a carved staff was mentioned. I can, however, point you to several Ifa verses that reference these Yoruba elements we still cherish and use today.

You could make a divination about the bad dream you had, and Ifá goes on to speak about Ire Ajé(wealth). That doesn’t mean Ifá is blind to your predicament; Ifá simply helps filter the noise & focus on what's important.
