RYAN JOB — NAVY SEAL AND WARRIOR
U.S. Navy SEAL | Petty Officer 2nd Class | SEAL Team 3 | Task Unit Bruiser
Ryan Job served as a machine gunner with SEAL Team 3 during the fierce fighting in Ramadi, Iraq, in 2006. In the middle of a firefight, he was struck by a sniper’s round, suffering devastating injuries that resulted in the permanent loss of his eyesight.
His fellow SEALs rushed to his aid and helped evacuate him from the battlefield. Among those who were involved was Chris Kyle. Ryan’s teammate, Marc Lee—the first Navy SEAL killed in Iraq—also lost his life during the same deployment.
Rather than allowing blindness to stop him from living, Ryan continued to pursue the things he loved. After returning home, he took on new challenges, including climbing Mount Rainier and going hunting. He also married and continued moving forward with remarkable determination.
Ryan died in 2009, aged only 28, after complications related to reconstructive surgery.
His story remains a reminder that losing something important does not necessarily mean losing the courage to keep going.
He lost his vision, but his determination remained.
