*FEDERAL GOVERNMENT REINFORCES COMMITMENT TO REVITALISING UNITY SCHOOLS-MINISTER OF STATE FOR EDUCATION*

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its strong commitment to revitalising Unity Schools across the country. This was demonstrated through a strategic unannounced inspection tour embarked upon by the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, who visited Federal Government College (FGC), Kano, and Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Kazaure, as part of efforts to assess infrastructure, teaching standards, and student welfare in these institutions.

During the visits, Professor Suwaiba engaged directly with school leadership, teachers, and students, gaining first-hand insights into the conditions of the schools and the challenges they face. She explained that the inspection was not ceremonial but a deliberate effort to align government policies with realities on the ground. By listening and observing operations in real-time, the Ministry seeks to implement more targeted and impactful interventions.

Professor Suwaiba announced that the Federal Government has earmarked over ₦80 billion for the renovation and upgrade of more than 100 Unity Schools across the nation. She explained that this investment reflects the government’s determination to improve the quality of education through the provision of modern and conducive learning environments.

She further revealed that the Ministry is developing a national digital platform for teacher training. This platform will enable teachers nationwide to access contemporary instructional resources and professional development opportunities, regardless of their location. According to the Minister, empowering teachers with up-to-date pedagogical skills is central to achieving sustainable improvement in education delivery.

In addition, the Minister highlighted the importance of maintaining appropriate student-teacher ratios, implementing regular quality assurance assessments, and promoting inclusive education. She noted that Conditional Cash Transfers (CCTs) remain a vital tool in supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds, improving access to education and reducing dropout rates.

At FGC Kano, the Minister was received by the principal, Mrs. Hafsat Adebayo, who expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as timely and encouraging. Professor Suwaiba addressed the students, urging them to pursue academic excellence while cultivating values such as discipline, honesty, and integrity. She cautioned against examination malpractice and reminded them that education should shape not only what they know but who they become.

The inspection continued at FGGC Kazaure, where the Minister not only assessed facilities including classrooms, laboratories, and the ICT centre but tasted the food prepared for the boarding Students. She expressed concern over the state of some infrastructure, particularly the lack of internet connectivity in the ICT centre, and assured the school management that such challenges would be prioritised. The principal of the college, Mrs. Feniah Vokito, outlined key areas requiring urgent attention and commended the Minister for her proactive engagement.

Professor Suwaiba described the Unity Colleges as pillars of national unity and academic excellence, stating that the Federal Government remains committed to strengthening their capacity and relevance. She emphasised that investment in infrastructure must be complemented by investments in human capital, strong leadership, and continuous policy support to ensure these institutions fulfil their foundational mandate.

The inspection tour marks a proactive shift in the Ministry’s approach to governance, rooted in transparency, accountability, and stakeholder collaboration. It reflects the resolve of the Federal Ministry of Education to transform Unity Schools into centres of excellence capable of nurturing future generations and advancing national development.

BREAKING: EFCC arrests the recently sacked managing directors and some top officials of the Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna refineries, discovering 80 billion in the account of one of the sacked MDs.

The officials were arrested over alleged mismanagement of funds earmarked for the rehabilitation of the refineries. The total amount under investigation is $2.9 billion

Findings by the PUNCH showed that the EFCC is probing the sum of $1.5 billion allocated to the Port Harcourt refinery, $740 million released for the Kaduna refinery, and $656 million approved for the Warri refinery.

The ex-Managing Director of Port Harcourt Refining Company Ltd is Mr Ibrahim Onoja, while Efifia Chu served as the ex-Managing Director of the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company Ltd.

Impeccable top management sources at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited also revealed that N80bn was found in the account of one of the sacked MDs.

On Friday, a senior EFCC source, who spoke with the PUNCH on the condition of anonymity due to the lack of authorisation to speak on the matter, revealed that the arrests of the three ex-MDs and top officials were part of an ongoing investigation into the billions of dollars released for the quick-fix maintenance of the three state-owned refineries.

β€œWe are investigating the money that was released for the rehabilitation of all three refineriesβ€”money disbursed in recent times. All the principal officers within that time frame are being invited.

β€œSome have been arrested already, and we are still on the lookout for others. Nigerians are interested in seeing our refineries work. We are asking: where is the money, and what has happened to the refineries?” the official said.

A document obtained by the PUNCH on Friday from NNPCL, dated April 28, 2025, and titled, β€˜Investigation Activities: Request for Information’, indicated that the probe by EFCC included the immediate past Group Chief Executive Officer of the national oil firm, Mele Kyari.

The EFCC document contained the names of 13 other former senior executives of the NNPCL under probe for misappof funds.

NO WOMB, NO CHILD: I AM ENOUGH

Nigerian actress Nse Ikpe-Etim's Journey Through Marriage, Infertility, and Finding Wholeness

There are things you never plan for.
You grow up with dreams β€” you dream of a career, a family, children... the laughter of little ones running through the house.
You think it’s natural. That it will happen. Until life β€” in its unpredictable way β€” rewrites your story.

I met my husband, Clifford, years ago. We were just kids when we first crossed paths. Life separated us for a while, but fate has a way of bringing the right people back into your orbit.
We reconnected, fell in love β€” real love β€” the kind that holds you together when everything else falls apart.

We got married on Valentine's Day in 2013.
It was simple, beautiful, and filled with genuine hope for a future we would build side by side.
I remember standing there, looking at him, thinking, _β€œThis is home.”_

After our wedding, we tried to merge two very different worlds β€” my life in Nigeria as an actress and his career as a lecturer in the United Kingdom. It wasn’t easy, but love makes things possible. We found our rhythm.

And then, life decided to test me.

I was diagnosed with **adenomyosis**.
It’s a condition where the tissue that normally lines the uterus grows into the muscle wall.
It explained the years of unbearable pain I had often dismissed. The swelling. The bleeding. The discomfort I had normalized.

When the doctors said,
_"We will need to take out your womb,"_
the world around me collapsed.

I sat there, frozen.
_"What do you mean... no children?"_

I broke.
I went home, called Clifford, and through tears I said:
_"I’m so sorry. I can’t have children."_

There was a long silence.
You know how in movies they make it dramatic with music? In real life, it’s just quiet. Deafening.

And then, he said something that pieced me back together:
_"Nse, you are enough. You are all that I need."_

It’s hard to explain the kind of healing that comes from being seen. From being loved without conditions.
It didn’t erase the pain immediately. I still grieved.
I grieved the children I would never carry. The tiny faces I would never kiss.
There were days I didn’t even want to get out of bed. Days I avoided baby showers, children’s birthday parties, anything that would remind me of what I had lost.

But slowly, slowly, I began to understand:
I had lost a womb, but I had not lost my essence.
I was still Nse.
I was still whole.

The world often measures womanhood by motherhood.
It’s unfair. It’s heavy.
And it’s wrong.

There are women whose hearts are bigger than nations, whose arms have cradled friends, siblings, nieces, nephews, entire communities.
Motherhood is beautiful β€” but it is not the only measure of a woman’s worth.

Today, I speak out because I know there are many women who suffer in silence.
Women who feel broken.
Women who feel like their bodies have betrayed them.
I want you to hear me: **You are not broken. You are not less. You are enough.**

I still have moments of sadness, of course. Healing is not a straight line.
But I live fully now β€” acting, traveling, loving my husband, laughing with friends, savoring every breath.

And maybe β€” just maybe β€” I was meant to mother differently.
Not with my body, but with my art, my voice, my spirit.

I am Nse Ikpe-Etim.
I am a woman.
I am enough.
And so are you.

Today we celebrate a teacher par excellence.
Many see him as just a man of God but if you are one of those always watching him or listening to him speak, you will agree with me that he is truly a teacher whose voice commands knowledge into whoever comes in contact with it. A man who blesses and teaches at the same time. A man gifted with grace, wisdom and knowledge.

Congratulations and happy blessed birthday Apostle Joshua Selman, more anointing in good health Sir.

"Davido paid me $100k to perform at The CHIVIDO bridal shower. That's even above what I charge per show!" - Inyanya

"When Davido called me to come perform at the CHIVIDO bridal shower, I just accepted without second. I wasn't expecting any pay because when I look at the things Davido has done for me, an all night performance isn't enough to show my gratitude. When I got there, Davido asked me how much he was gonna pay me and I told him I didn't need a pay. But he insisted and just as I was trying to dΔ™ny the pay, he made me call with his manager and i received a credit alert of $100k at the spot. I couldn't believe my eyes and Davido told me to go make his wife's bridal shower a memorable one. Throughout my performance , I was just smiling and glancing at my account balance" Iyanya
