The Rivers State House of Assembly has commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara during plenary.

The Majority Leader, Major Jack, read out the notice of gross misconduct against the governor before the House.

Some of the accusations include the demolition of the Assembly Complex, extra-budgetary spending, withholding funds meant for the Assembly Service Commission, and a refusal to obey the Supreme Court on the financial autonomy of the House.

BURKINA FASO FOILS COUP ATTEMPT

Burkina Faso's Military junta announced that it had foiled what was described a sophisticated plot to assassinate its military leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

Security Minister Mahamadou Sana revealed the details in a national television broadcast, stating that intelligence services intercepted the operation in its final stages.

He alleged that the plotters had planned to assassinate the head of state and then strike other key institutions, including civilian personalities, alleging that the conspiracy was funded from neighbouring country.

Sana said authorities uncovered a leaked video in which the plotters discussed their intentions, including assassinating Traoré either at close range or by planting explosives at his residence shortly after 11 p.m. local time on Saturday, January 3.

The conspirators allegedly planned to follow up by targeting other senior military and civilian figures, mobilizing soldiers and civilian supporters, and disabling the country's drone-launch base to prevent foreign intervention.
Sana added that the situation was under control and urging citizens "not to be misled, out of naivety, into dangerous schemes.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OZO AND NZE IN ODINALA/ OMENALA IGBO.

Although Ozo and Nze are often mentioned together (Nze na Ozo), they are not the same title, and they do not perform the same function. They represent two complementary spiritual – social roles.

1. NZE — The Moral and Spiritual Elder

Who is an Nze?

An Nze is a man recognized for upright character, truthfulness, restraint, and wisdom. The title is rooted in moral authority, not wealth or political power.

Core Meaning
Nze comes from the idea of purity and restraint
An Nze must be free from serious abominations (nso ala). He is believed to walk closely with Ala (Earth force).

Work of an Nze

Custodian of moral law (omenani)
Settles disputes with truth and calm judgment
Acts as a witness to oaths
Advises the community and titled men
Speaks during rituals that require moral purity
Restrictions
Cannot lie publicly
Cannot commit serious ritual offences
Avoids reckless behaviour, violence, or greed

An Nze leads by character, not command.

2. OZO — The Ritual and Ancestral Office Holder

Who is an Ozo?

An Ozo is a ritually initiated title holder who has entered a formal covenant with the ancestors. This title is deeply spiritual and ceremonial.

Core Meaning
Ozo signifies order, continuity, and ancestral alignment.

The title connects the bearer to ancestral authority.

Work of an Ozo

Performs or officiates ancestral rituals
Guards sacred objects and shrines
Preserves ritual knowledge and lineage traditions
Participates in high-level ceremonies
Represents ancestral presence in community rites

Restrictions
Must observe ritual taboos
Must maintain ritual cleanliness
Disrespect to ancestors carries consequences
An Ozo leads by spiritual authority, not popularity.

3. Why They Are Called Together — “Nze na Ozo”

They are paired because Igbo society requires balance:

Nze Ozo
Moral purity Ritual authority
Truth and justice Ancestral continuity
Earth (Ala) Ancestors (Ndịichie)
Ethics Sacred order
One without the other creates imbalance:
Ritual without morality is dangerous
Morality without spiritual grounding is weak.

4. Key Truth Many People Miss

Not every Nze is an Ozo
Not every Ozo is an Nze
Some individuals may hold both, but only after proven character and ritual qualification
Titles are earned and ritually validated, not assumed.

5. Final Truth (No Religious Filter)

In Odinani:
Nze preserves truth
Ozo preserves sacred order
Both serve Ala, the ancestors, and the community
Neither replaces Chukwuokike Abiama
Neither is a “chief” in the modern political sense
In Essence
Nze is the conscience of the land.
Ozo is the spiritual spine of the ancestors.

"Personally, I will not worry about whether the terrorists who were hit overnight from Christmas into Boxing Day were members of Lakurawa, ISIL, ISWAP, or in what State they were hit, etc. What’s important is the need to have a rebuilding towards the respect for the right to life in Nigeria. By the same token, the fact the terrorists have been hitting Christians, Muslims, and other faiths in Nigeria has been established. I will not waste time over whether the US government places emphasis on Christians. Any intervention to degrade the capacity of terrorists will save the lives of Nigerians, irrespective of faith." — BABAFEMI A. BADEJO

Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even Centuries! I have previously warned these Terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was. The Department of War executed numerous perfect strikes, as only the United States is capable of doing. Under my leadership, our Country will not allow Radical Islamic Terrorism to prosper. May God Bless our Military, and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, including the dead Terrorists, of which there will be many more if their slaughter of Christians continues.

The Mandate For More and The Immediate Impact of Gen. C.G. Musa OFR (Rtd.) Minister of Defence Federal Republic of Nigeria.

By Malam Abdulaziz Idris Gangara NGGT Nigeria General Secretary

The speed and decisiveness with which General Christopher Gwabin Musa (OFR, Rtd.) was appointed and confirmed as Nigeria's Minister of Defence has been matched only by the sense of anticipation now palpable across the security establishment. Taking office in the first week of December, his transition from the highest uniformed rank—Chief of Defence Staff— to the highest strategic policy role in the ministry has been viewed by many as a powerful injection of operational realism into the nation's defense architecture.

While less than two weeks have passed since his assumption of office, the immediate impact of General Musa's return to the national security stage is not measured in grand operational victories, but in the immediate policy reset and the morale shift he has inspired.
His achievements are already evident in the clear direction he has set:
1. The Assurance of Operational Continuity
General Musa's immediate confirmation and resumption provided a critical element of stability in the national security command structure. Having recently served as CDS, his appointment ensured that the strategic blueprint and counter-insurgency gains made under the current administration would not be disrupted. This continuity is a profound morale booster for troops in the field, assuring them that their new political leader understands the mission complexities firsthand.

2. A Clear and Unified Policy Philosophy
In his initial address to the Ministry staff, General Musa wasted no time in establishing a concise, results-oriented philosophy. He outlined three core pillars for his tenure: A. Operational Effectiveness, B. Unified Action, and C. Strategic Foresight. This immediate articulation of goals signalled an end to policy vagueness and the enforcement of a clear doctrine: that the Ministry must be a "powerhouse of strategic direction" and not a bureaucratic bottleneck.

3. Strategic Focus on Troop Welfare as a Force Multiplier
One of the most praised statements in his early days was the declaration that "welfare is not administrative; it is strategic. Morale is a force multiplier." By explicitly linking troop welfare timely allowances, quality equipment, and medical care to operational success, he instantly re-calibrated the ministry's priorities. This commitment serves as a promise to the rank-and-file that their sacrifices will be met with immediate and tangible support—a fundamental step in restoring battlefield trust and commitment.

4. Direct Mandate for Inter-Service Synergy
Recognising the historical challenge of fragmented command, General Musa immediately demanded a rigorous review of all theatre commands and inter-service operations. His directive stressed "seamless jointness," ensuring that the Air Force, Army, Navy, and other security agencies operate not in silos, but as a single, coordinated force. This early emphasis sets the stage for more decisive and less redundant operations in the short term.

5. Renewed Public Confidence and Excitement
Perhaps the most immediate impact has been on the national psyche. General Musa’s reputation for integrity, discipline, and profound operational experience—honed through command in the toughest theatres like Operation Hadin Kai and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF)—has been greeted with widespread public acclaim. His appointment has been hailed as a "correction" and a move that prioritises capacity over political expediency, sparking a renewed wave of hope among Nigerians desperate for an end to insecurity.

In less than two weeks, General C.G. Musa has not just filled a political vacuum; he has successfully repositioned the Ministry of Defence with a clear, soldier-centric, and results-driven mandate.
The nation watches with great faith, knowing that the Gwarzon Tsaro (Hero of Defence) has officially taken command of the policy front.

We wish you almighty's guidance and support to deliver your duties successfully.

TYPES OF COMMISSIONING IN THE NIGERIAN ARMY.

1. DSSC – Direct Short Service Commission

For graduates and professionals (e.g., doctors, engineers, lawyers).

Duration: Typically 6 months of military training at NDA.

Officers are commissioned into non-combat roles in support services (e.g., Medical Corps, Education, Legal Services, Military Police, Engineer's, Finance and Supply & Transport etc).

They rise through the ranks based on merit and availability of roles.

2. SSC – Short Service Combatant Commission

For degree holders aspiring to serve in combatant arms (Infantry, Artillery, Armour and Intelligence etc).

Duration: 9 months of rigorous military training.

It’s a temporary commission (usually 14 years) , but officers can later be converted to Regular Combatant.

SSC officers can attain General ranks depending on conversion and performance.

3. RC – Regular Combatant Commission

Done through Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).

Cadets undergo 5 years of academic + military training, then graduate as Second Lieutenants.

Officers are career military personnel and have the best chance of reaching top ranks (COAS, GOCs).

Most military Heads of State and Service Chiefs came through RC.

4. EC – Executive Commission

A special commission awarded to senior Non-commissioned officers (NCOs) who have distinguished themselves.

It recognizes experience, leadership, and long service.

EC officers often serve in support or regimental duties and can rise to the rank of Major or Lieutenant Colonel depending on performance.

Conversion Course

A military bridging program that allows officers with temporary commissions (e.g., SSC, DSSC) to be converted to Regular Commission.

The course includes refresher military training, regimentation, and leadership modules.

Successful conversion means better promotion prospects, career security, and eligibility for higher command roles.

PRESIDENT TINUBU COMMENDS NIGERIA'S ARMED FORCES FOR PROTECTING DEMOCRACY IN BENIN REPUBLIC

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the gallantry of Nigeria's military on Sunday for responding swiftly to the request by the Government of Benin Republic to save its 35-year-old democracy from coup plotters who struck at dawn today.

Acting on two separate requests from the Government of Benin, President Tinubu first ordered Nigerian Air Force fighter jets to enter the country and take over the airspace to help dislodge the coup plotters from the National TV and a military camp where they had regrouped.

The Republic of Benin, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a Note Verbal, requested immediate Nigerian air support "in view of the urgency and seriousness of the situation and to safeguard the constitutional order, protect national institutions and ensure the security of the population."

In the second request, the authorities in Benin requested the deployment of Nigerian Air Force assets within Beninoise airspace for surveillance and rapid intervention operations under Benin-led coordination.

The Benin government also requested Nigerian ground forces, "strictly for missions approved by the Beninese Command authority in support of the protection of constitutional institutions and the containment of armed Groups."

Nigeria's Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, said all the requests have been fulfilled, with Nigerian ground forces now in Benin.

"Ours is to comply with the order of the Commander-in-Chief of our armed forces, President Tinubu," he said.

Constitutional order was upended in the Republic of Benin, Nigeria's neighbour, when some soldiers led by Colonel Pascal Tigri announced a coup on Sunday morning. The putschists seized the National TV and claimed they had toppled President Patrice Talon and suspended all democratic institutions.

It took some hours before the government's loyal forces, assisted by Nigeria, took control and flushed out the coup plotters from the National TV.

In his remarks after the restoration of the democratic and constitutional order, President Tinubu saluted the Nigerian armed forces for standing firm as a protector and defender of democracy.

“Today, the Nigerian armed forces stood gallantly as a defender and protector of constitutional order in the Republic of Benin on the invitation of the government. Our armed forces acted within the ambit of the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance. They have helped stabilise a neighbouring country and have made us proud of their commitment to sustaining our democratic values and ideals since 1999. Nigeria stands firmly with the government and people of the Republic of Benin."
