It was a profound honour and privilege to represent our Executive Director, Mrs. Abdulazeez Kaltumi, at the flag-off of LEGASI's "Thumb Not Fist" anti-violence advocacy campaign in Kaduna on Thursday, June 11 2026.
Delivering her message on the importance of peaceful electoral participation ahead of the 2027 general elections was both a responsibility and a humbling opportunity to contribute to a cause that is vital to the future of our democracy.
At LEGASI, our message is simple but urgent: choose the thumb over the fist. Elections should be determined by the power of the ballot, not by violence, intimidation, or conflict. As citizens, especially young people, we all have a role to play in promoting peaceful participation, responsible civic engagement, and democratic values that strengthen our nation.
I remain convinced that sustained voter education, active citizenship, and community-led advocacy are critical to ensuring free, fair, and peaceful elections. Our votes are stronger than violence, our voices are more powerful than intimidation, and our collective commitment to peace is what will safeguard Nigeria's democratic future.
I am deeply grateful to LEGASI for the confidence and opportunity to represent the organisation at this important event, and to all partners, stakeholders, and community members working tirelessly to advance peacebuilding, civic participation, and electoral integrity across Nigeria.
Together, let us reject violence, embrace dialogue, and make our voices count through the ballot.
