DANGOTE BUYS 16 MILLION BARRELS OF NIGERIAN CRUDE FOR OCTOBER
Dangote Refinery has secured at least 16 million barrels of Nigerian crude oil for October delivery, equivalent to about 520,000 barrels per day, according to Reuters.
NNPC is expected to supply eight Nigerian cargoes as part of the refinery’s crude requirements.
The development comes as global oil prices remain elevated, making Nigeria’s crude particularly valuable on the international market.
But there is an interesting economic trade-off.
More Nigerian crude going to local refining could strengthen domestic fuel production and reduce dependence on imported petroleum products. At the same time, it means fewer barrels may be available for export when international crude prices are high.
So the bigger question is:
Should Nigeria prioritise refining more of its crude at home or selling more of it on the international market when prices are high?
And ultimately, will increased local refining translate into more reliable and affordable fuel for ordinary Nigerians?

FOOD BANK, ICT CENTRE LAUNCHED IN ANAMBRA
Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is in Anambra State today as programmes focusing on food security, digital skills and economic empowerment take centre stage.
The visit includes the South East launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme, targeted at nutritionally vulnerable people, including young children, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers.
An ICT Centre at Federal Polytechnic Oko is also part of the programme, with plans to support training in software development, data analysis, digital marketing and other digital skills.
A separate empowerment initiative is expected to reach 5,000 beneficiaries across Anambra's 21 local government areas.
But beyond today's ceremonies, one question matters:
Will these programmes create lasting improvements in people's lives?
Because the real measure of a public project is not the commissioning ceremony.
It is what remains after the cameras leave.

NIGER PUSHED FRANCE OUT. RUSSIA HELPED SAVE ITS GOVERNMENT. SO WHO REALLY HOLDS THE POWER?
Niger's military government came to power promising greater sovereignty and later forced French troops out of the country.
But a recent military mutiny has raised a difficult new question.
When mutinous soldiers seized a strategic airbase in Niamey, Nigerien forces fought to regain control.
Then Russia's Africa Corps stepped in, providing military support to forces loyal to the government.
Niger has since accused France of helping incite the mutiny, although it has not publicly produced evidence proving that allegation.
The picture is striking.
France is out. Russia is in.
But if Russian forces are now helping protect Niger's government during a major internal crisis, has Niger truly reduced its dependence on foreign powers?
Or has the country simply changed partners?
This question goes beyond Niger. Mali and Burkina Faso have also turned away from traditional Western partnerships while building closer relations with Russia.
So perhaps the real question facing the Sahel is no longer:
France or Russia?
It is:
Can the Sahel become secure without depending on either?

IF YOU’RE TRAVELLING THROUGH ONITSHA NEXT WEEK, WATCH THIS BEFORE YOU LEAVE!
The Federal Government is shutting the First Niger Bridge linking Onitsha and Asaba for two weeks.
The closure begins Monday, September 7, and runs until September 21, 2026.
During this period, motorists will be redirected to the Second Niger Bridge.
The government says the closure will allow rehabilitation and maintenance work, including road resurfacing, repairs to damaged sections, solar powered streetlights and CCTV installation.
Work is expected to continue day and night to complete the repairs within the scheduled period.
So if you normally travel through the old Niger Bridge, plan ahead and expect possible delays.

EBONYI 2027: POLITICAL BATTLE INTENSIFIES AS APC FACES FRESH INTERNAL CRACKS
The battle for Ebonyi State ahead of the 2027 elections is becoming increasingly complicated.
Fresh tensions have emerged within the ruling APC over the Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency, where the candidacy of former Minister of State for Health, Joseph Ekumankama, is being challenged in court by incumbent federal lawmaker Idu Igariwey.
Igariwey alleges that Ekumankama did not participate in the primary that produced the party's candidate.
The dispute has also exposed reported differences between political interests associated with Governor Francis Nwifuru and those of former governor and Minister of Works David Umahi. A court ruling on the Afikpo/Edda candidacy dispute is expected on September 9.
This comes as political rhetoric across Ebonyi continues to intensify ahead of 2027.
The question now is bigger than one candidate:

“LOSE YOUR LG, LOSE YOUR OFFICE?” — NWIFURU'S WARNING TO EBONYI COUNCIL CHAIRMEN SPARKS 2027 CONTROVERSY
The battle for Ebonyi State in 2027 appears to be heating up already.
Governor Francis Nwifuru has warned newly inaugurated local government chairmen that any chairman who fails to deliver his council to the APC in the 2027 elections could be removed from office.
Speaking during their inauguration in Abakaliki, Nwifuru declared that the APC intends to win all available positions in the state and told the chairmen that they would be held accountable for the party's performance in their respective areas.
His remarks have now triggered political backlash.
The Igbo Oriental Think Tank has criticised the governor, arguing that elected council officials should not be subjected to political pressure over how their areas vote. The group also alleged that the administration's political mobilisation ahead of 2027 is intensifying.
The PDP in Ebonyi has separately demanded that Nwifuru retract remarks it considers inflammatory.
With the 2027 election still months away, the political temperature in Ebonyi is already rising.
But beyond APC, PDP or any individual candidate, there is a bigger democratic question:
