My late father-in-law once shared a valuable lesson with me, stating that to become significant in people's lives, one must be like a rag or mop in their homes. Initially, I found this notion perplexing, but he elaborated, explaining that the importance of a mop or rag is only truly appreciated when a spill occurs, and it is needed to clean up the mess. He was emphasizing the value of serving others with humility, without ego, and how this approach can lead to being highly valued. I began to apply this principle and discovered that serving others with humility not only earned me a great deal of respect but also made me indispensable to those whose attention I sought. Consequently, I became increasingly important to them. Ultimately, I learned that wisdom is not acquired through observation alone but through experience.
