Nigerian Woman, 60, Found Stabbed to Death in UK Apartment

A 60-year-old Nigerian, Nkiru Chima, was found dead with multiple stab wounds in her flat on Bushy Close, Romford, East London, on Saturday, July 27.

Police responded to a welfare call around 9:20 PM and discovered her body. She was confirmed dead at the scene.

Authorities believe her death is linked to a 20-year-old man found dead on the train tracks at Romford Station that same night. The man was known to Chima and may have died by su***de after the incident.

No arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing.

Chima’s case adds to growing concerns over the deaths of Nigerians in the UK, including cases linked to domestic violence, mental health, and immigration stress.

As more Nigerians migrate abroad, experts say there’s a rising need for stronger support systems in the diaspora.

Zenith Bank Hosts D’Tigress as Celebrations Continue in Abuja

Sports | Fax360 News

The wave of celebrations for Nigeria’s victorious women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, continued as Zenith Bank hosted the African champions at its Corporate Head Office in Abuja.

The event is part of a series of receptions organized to honour the team following their historic triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship, where they clinched their fourth consecutive and seventh overall continental title.

Zenith Bank, a long-time supporter and sponsor of women’s basketball in Nigeria, received the team in a warm and colourful gathering attended by top bank executives and staff. The bank acknowledged the team's efforts and reiterated its support for sports development in the country.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government had earlier rewarded the D’Tigress team with ₦50 million, in recognition of their outstanding performance and for bringing glory to the nation. The cash reward was announced during an official reception at the Presidential Villa.

D’Tigress' continued dominance on the African continent has not only elevated Nigeria’s global sports image but has also renewed calls for greater investment in women’s sports across the country.

31 Million Nigerians at Risk of Hunger as UN Sounds Alarm Over Food Crisis

Humanitarian | Fax360 News

An alarming 31 million Nigerians face food insecurity in the coming months, with aid agencies warning that the country could be heading toward a full scale hunger crisis. The UN World Food Programme (WFP) has raised the red flag, citing widespread displacement, inflation, and armed conflict as key drivers.

The agency disclosed that only 21% of its $130 million emergency appeal for Nigeria has been met, placing millions of vulnerable citizens particularly children and women in the North-East at risk of malnutrition or worse.

Experts fear that without urgent global attention, the humanitarian situation may deteriorate rapidly. Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy, continues to struggle with balancing security, agriculture, and aid coordination.

Nurses Suspend Nationwide Strike After Reaching Agreement With FG

By Fax360 News

The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has officially suspended its nationwide industrial action after reaching a deal with the Federal Government. The strike, which paralyzed operations in public hospitals for over a week, ended following high-level negotiations with the Ministries of Labour and Health.

The nurses had demanded fair remuneration, improved working conditions, and protection from workplace harassment. Many hospitals across the country were overwhelmed, with patients left stranded and healthcare delivery nearly grounded.

The union now awaits the implementation of the agreed terms, warning that failure to follow through may trigger renewed action. The development also calls attention to the deeper crisis facing Nigeria’s public health workforce.

Nigeria’s Oil Output Rises to 1.78 Million Barrels Daily — Best in 8 Months

Energy & Economy | Fax360 News

Nigeria has recorded a significant rise in crude oil output, reaching 1.78 million barrels per day (bpd) in July 2025 the highest in the past eight months. This development comes as a major boost for the Tinubu administration, which has faced persistent revenue pressure due to low production and oil theft.

Industry insiders attribute the increase to enhanced security around oil infrastructure, especially in the volatile Niger Delta region, where crude theft and sabotage have plagued operations for years.

The development is expected to improve dollar inflow, ease budget financing, and reduce reliance on borrowing. However, analysts warn that unless Nigeria sustains reforms in the oil sector and invests in refining capacity, this recovery may be short-lived.

Falana to Tinubu: Don’t Beg Governors, Enforce Social Welfare Laws

Senior Advocate of Nigeria and human rights activist, Femi Falana (SAN), has urged President Bola Tinubu to stop appealing to state governors over the growing economic hardship and instead compel them to create enforceable laws around social investment programmes.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels TV, Falana said:

“Things are getting tougher by the day. The President acknowledged this and appealed to governors to ‘wet the ground’ but that’s not enough. He should stop appealing and start compelling. Let there be laws that guarantee social protection, so poor citizens can go to court when the government fails in its duty.”

Falana stressed that without legal backing, social intervention remains optional, leaving millions of struggling Nigerians at the mercy of inconsistent political will.

Can ₦712 Billion Transform MMIA or Build a New Airport?

By Fax360 News

In what some call a “bold move” and others, “another lavish project,” the Federal Executive Council on July 31, 2025, approved a staggering ₦712 billion for the complete rehabilitation of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

That’s nearly half of Ghana’s entire 2024 education budget for just one terminal.

Let’s be real. Anyone who’s travelled through MMIA knows it desperately needs a facelift. Leaky roofs, broken escalators, chaotic check-ins it's long overdue. But the price tag? It’s what’s raising eyebrows.

Based on available data, ₦712 billion (approx. $490 million) could build a brand-new international airport in some African countries maybe not to MMIA’s scale, but with modern aesthetics and efficient systems.

Compare this to Ethiopia’s Addis Ababa Bole International Airport expansion at under $400 million, or Ghana’s Terminal 3 in Accra completed for about $250 million. And they’re internationally praised for quality.

Back home, the announcement comes not long after the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway triggered debates over inflated costs per kilometre. Nigerians are asking: “Is this real development, or just another contract bazaar?”

At this point, many are not just looking for upgrades, they’re demanding accountability.

Because truly, if this money is used judiciously as stated by the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, MMIA could rival Africa’s best.

But if not, we may end up with another glamorous project that looks good on paper but fails to deliver where it matters most.

Wike’s Former LG Chairmen Re-Emerge as Candidates for Rivers August Polls

Port Harcourt | Fax360 News

As preparations intensify ahead of the August 30, 2025 local government elections in Rivers State, several former local government chairmen who served during the tenure of Nyesom Wike have re-emerged as candidates, sparking political debates across the state.

Over the weekend, major political parties conducted their primaries across various centres, following the official election guidelines released by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC). The primaries witnessed a significant turnout, with many political heavyweights and grassroots mobilisers returning to the race.

Notably, former chairmen loyal to the current FCT Minister and former Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, clinched their parties’ tickets in several LGAs, reigniting political tensions between the Wike camp and the supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Political observers believe this development could deepen the ongoing power tussle in Rivers State, as the return of Wike's allies is seen as a strategic move to retain control of local structures across the 23 local government areas.

Some of the returning chairmanship aspirants include:

Hon. Chidi Lloyd (Emohua LGA)

Hon. Samuel Nwanosike (Ikwerre LGA)

Hon. Rowland Sekibo (Akuku-Toru LGA)
(Full list of confirmed names is still emerging as party results are made public.)

Meanwhile, RSIEC has assured all stakeholders of a free, fair, and credible election, urging parties and candidates to strictly adhere to the electoral timetable and guidelines. Campaign activities are expected to commence in the coming days.

The August polls are being closely watched as a test of strength between the Wike and Fubara political blocs two factions that have sharply divided the state’s ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

“It Was Like Prison”: Kemi Badenoch’s Viral Interview Rekindles Painful Memories of Nigerian Unity Schools

By Fax360 News | Facts Beyond the Headlines

A viral interview of British Minister Kemi Badenoch is stirring deep emotions online not just for what she said, but for what it reveals about a shared Nigerian experience too many know too well.

“I went to a federal government school in Shagamu, and honestly, it was like being in prison,” she said.

In the now trending clip, Badenoch opened up about her time in FGGC Shagamu, painting a picture of life many Nigerians still live today:

Overcrowded dormitories (150 girls in six rooms)

No running water, students fetched buckets daily

Toilet cleaning without water

Grass-cutting with machetes as punishment

What was meant to promote unity across Nigeria, many say, became a system of suffering. Now, her words are triggering a wave of responses, from former students recalling their trauma, to younger ones asking: “Has anything changed?”

“They scattered us across the country… it built my resilience,” she added.

But should young people still have to suffer to be strong?

Badenoch’s rise to the British cabinet is inspiring, but her story forces Nigerians to ask:
👉 Are today’s unity schools still the same?
👉 Has the government truly reformed them?
👉 Why do we normalize hardship in the name of discipline?

Her experience may be years old, but for many, the pain is still fresh.

💬 What was your experience in a Nigerian boarding school?
🧠 Should unity schools be scrapped or reformed?

₦60 Billion Lawsuit: Nnamdi Kanu Drags Reno Omokri to Court Over “Defamatory Attacks”

IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has fired back legally filing a jaw dropping ₦60 billion lawsuit against controversial political commentator Reno Omokri.

The suit, filed at the Enugu State High Court, accuses Omokri of repeatedly defaming Kanu, IPOB, and the Igbo people through social media posts and public statements.

Kanu is demanding:

₦50 billion for general defamation

₦10 billion in aggravated damages

A public apology and retraction in two national newspapers and on Omokri’s verified X account

A court order restraining Omokri from ever making similar statements again

Full legal costs and 10% annual interest on damages

According to Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, the publications were not only false but “prejudicial, malicious, and harmful to the image of Kanu and IPOB.”

Reno Omokri, known for his aggressive online presence and support for President Tinubu, has openly criticized IPOB over the years branding the group as violent and divisive. But Kanu’s camp is now pushing back hard.

Ejimakor posted on X:

“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu commenced a muscular legal action against Reno Omokri… Others like Omokri should take note and be guided.”

This bold legal move sends a strong message not just to Omokri, but to public commentators who use social media to target individuals and groups without facts.

Reno is yet to issue an official response.
